We can hear symphonies in the silence
See the good side of any heartbreak
We give and give and they take and take
They should know there isn’t much we can’t take
We taste freedom in coffee and cigarettes
And feel the judging glares on our backs
But who has the time to care about what they think?
We don’t have the patience or sympathy to look back
‘Cause we are the outsiders
Covering blank sheets with reminders
We tattoo down all of our sins
With unforgiving minds, paper, and pens
We’ve been putting up fences because of mistakes in our past
Watching each one rust shut with time
We turn our feelings into words that will last
Sung out through pained lungs and rhyme
Ten thousand journals full of the same stories
Filled with unending losses and glories
Every page covered with other memories
Just some more of our stories
‘Cause we are the outsiders
Covering blank sheets with reminders
We tattoo down all of our sins
With unforgiving minds, paper, and pens
We understand what others do not
There’s more in our words than our mouths could ever speak
Though we are young and haven’t seen everything
We aren’t the ones you should call weak
Tell us what we are doing wrong
Criticize our every move
But is following others the life that you want?
Is that the life you choose?
‘Cause we are the outsiders
Covering blank sheets with reminders
We tattoo down all of our sins
With unforgiving minds, paper, and pens
