He stood there
Holding the gun at her face
He yelled at us to get down
We dropped to the ground
I saw her move
Just a flick of her hand
I saw the pin
Of the lethal hand grenade
I shouted her name
But nothing came out
The man looked at me
Hatred for me blazing in his eyes
I screamed again
This time her name came
I wanted to tell her
I knew what she was about to do
She looked at me
Fear, uncertainty and terror
Not sure if what she had done was right
But it was too late
He saw the pin
He realized what she had done
He took a step towards her
On hand out stretched, begging
And the they were gone
Just a small bang and a tiny flash
It seemed unfit
For such a hero to die so quietly
She was there
Real, alive, a person
But then she was gone
Ceased to exist
I’m writing now
So she won’t be forgotten
If she taught me one thing it was:
‘Always Believe In Something’
The Death Of A Hero
