The Lion and the Gypsy

Note: This was a poem I did as part of an assignment where we had the option to write in either prose or poetry about a painting called 'The Sleeping Gypsy'.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The desert's hunter creeps towards its object of curiosity
The full moon reflecting in his amber eyes
With a soft growl, the skilled hunter makes the final few steps and he has reached the object of his curiosity.
With a few quick and careful sniffs, the hunter has determined that the object is alive but the question remains; is it food?
A lick reveals a foreign taste and the hunter determines it is not food and so the hunter stalks back off into the night.
The gypsy awoke shorty after; unaware of the visit the lion just graced him with.
The only indication of the visit was the slight wetness on his cheek, which he rubbed confusedly.
