it's time for school
well, also known as,
it's time for her tortured soul
to roam the crowded hallways
searching for a purpose
she yawns...
it didn't use to be this way
the bus is bumping and cracking
and she's racking her mind
trying to remember those bittersweet memories
of a distant, happier school-time
of how he smiled when he walked towards her
but now he blatantly ignores her
when she walks past he turns his head
and now she wishes she never got out of bed
she wishes...
it didn't use to be this way
drool on the desk and marks on her face
she didn't use to sleep in class
but hell, it's already too late
she fell for him
and he fell for her
she fell a bit hard
his feelings didn't concur
and now she's falling asleep
to the tears that she weeps
hoping that when she's awakened
her dreams will come true
silly girl
he'll never come back for you
she sleeps...
it didn't use to be this way
he's only 10 feet away but it might as well be 10 thousand
she shuffles her feet and stares at her shoes
she use to count the hours, the minutes, the seconds
but now the time she's wasted is interrupted by the
RING!
school's out.
the breaking of her heart-strings makes her aware
that her broken heart is still just barely there
her heart beats, cascading rhythms as it

to the floor
because he's smiling at another whore.
"I want you! I need you! You're everything to me!"
She wants to scream,
her lungs burning with the truth of her feelings
as her buried heart, six feet under
wonders why her lips won't utter a single word
She wonders...
it didn't use to be this way
now her dreams are infected with his voice
calling out to her, beckoning her to follow
yet another trail of heartbreak
when she closes her eyes she sees him
with his arms outstretched,
pleading for her to come back
and she's so glad until reality seeps in
and he's pushing her away again
she lies in her bed, contemplating his actions
the lights go out and she bows her head
praying his heart, like her own, would burn so infernally
so that he would know how much his silence hurts her
you see, it didn't use to be this way but now
the pills she's popping isn't helping anymore
she's wishing that she was that other whore
no amount of medication can cover her heartsore
she's only wishing he had a little bit more...
sympathy.
because of him, she'll sleep eternally.
and that's a day in the life of a modern sleeping beauty.
