Dead but Alive

Not sure what inspired this one either

I’m watching my friends gather around
I’m in an open box on the ground
People are dressed all in black
The ability to move, I seem to lack
Satin surrounds me, it’s all red
And there is a soft pillow under my head
Everyone is starting to cry
I’m so confused, I don’t know why
The pastor appears with The Book
And I can only silently look
As someone closes the lid on my face
Any sunlight? No. Not a trace
I can hear the pastor speak The Word
And I realize this is all absurd
I attempt to lift my hand to knock
But then I hear the box lock
I start to panic, I don’t know what to do
I just wish everyone knew
I’m still here, I haven’t gone anywhere
Does anyone even really care?
“I’m locked in here! Let me out!”
I try to scream. I try to shout
My box is lifted and is being carried away
I cannot hold fate at bay
Slowly I’m being put in a hole
I’ve paid the price, I’ve paid the toll
I then realize it’s too late
Finally, I accept my fate
To find the answer, I try to strive
Why am I trapped here, dead but alive?
