Nightmare come true~Come what may
*Kasey's POV*
It was Monday now, Abby slept all day, recovering from her hangover. She woke up at 3.
She had came downstairs to find me watching SportsCenter on her tv in the living room.
"Kasey?" She asked, groggily.
"Hey sweetheart! i was wondering when you were gonna get up." i said, lookingat her.
She was wearing black sleeping boxers and one of my t-shirts. She had taken to stealing my t-shirt and using it for her pj top. I didnt mind, it was cute seeing her walk around in a t-shirt too big for her.
"What time is it?" She asked, rubbing her emerald green eyes.
"um...3:11."
"ohmygosh. i slept that long?" She asked, sheepishly.
"yup."
"How long were you here?"
"um...probably since we got here. I went home to just check up on it, and i came back. So pretty much all day."
"oh." She said. "i think im gonna change. it's the afternoon and im still wearing my pjs."
"ok." i said. "i'll get you something to eat. Hope you dont mind if it's an omelete or something."
She laughed. "Omelete! That's Denny's nickname, given by Abby Lambert. woo, i love it."
I chuckled. "you two are crazy."
"Yup." She smiled, and headed upstairs.
Like, 10 minutes later she came downstairs to find me covered in egg yolk.
"Ew, gross." i mumbled as i washed off my arms.
"Kasey, what happened?"
"i kinda accidentally smushed the egg. My bad." I said, and smiled.
She smiled, and took the omelete, and put some ketchup on it.
"Ketchup?" I said.
"Yeah. I dont like eggs by themselves. needs ketchup." She smiled, and ate it. "This is really good." She said, between a bite.
"Thanks."
"I wish i could cook." She laughed. "So what were you doing while i was sleeping off my hangover?"
"Watching tv. Walking around...Abby?"
"Yeah?"
"i was thinking maybe i could move in with you."
"I was thinking about it too, but i wasnt sure. But you thought the same, so i guess it's not that bad of an idea." She said, smiling.
"Yeah, ok."
"What about your house?" She asked, finishing up the omelete and putting the dirty sink in the washing machine.
"I guess i'll sell it."
"Aw. i like your house."
"I've been at your place more than you've been at mine." i laughed. "your place is newer."
"i guess." She smiled.
"All right."
She stood up and went to the french doors leading to the backyard. She opened the door and went out. I followed her.
"Where you goin?"
"Nowhere, really. Just hanging out."
"Wanna go jet-skiing?"
"Ok." She smiled.
"You know how to?"
"yeah. You?"
"Yeah."
"All right, let's go. the board's in the boat."
"Let's go to my place. i need to get in my swim trunks."
"I dont. I'm already wearing it. I figured exercise is one way to beat a hangover. Plus alcohol has alot of calories." She said, laughing as we walked to the dock.
"Careful Abby. The boat's a bit far to jump." I said.
She took a few steps back and jumped off the dock onto the back of the boat. She turned and looked at me. "No, not really."
"You just do that to prove me wrong, dont you?" i asked, jumping onto it too.
"yeah." She beamed. "That's what i live for. to prove people wrong."
She sat in the driver's seat and turned it on, and i took down the ropes that were anchoring it to the dock. We went straight across the lake to my house, and i jumped off, going into my house. I changed, grabbed a few drinks; and ran back out to the boat. Abby was relaxing, playing with the buttons on the control panel. I jumped easily onto the boat, and snuck up behind her, ready to scare her.
"Kasey, you're not good at being sneaky." She laughed, and put the boat in forward and we left my dock.
"Aw. you see me?"
"yeah."
"Man."
"oh well." She smiled, and looked at me. "Better luck next time."
We drove out a nice quiet part of the lake, and we took turns driving the Chapparral while the other skiied. Finally after an hour of that, we got bored and went to her place, and we tied the boat to the dock and put up the canopy and hung out on the boat, just floating around, sitting there. We talked for awhile, and just relaxed til Abby sat up.
"What?" i whined. We were stretched out on the backseat of the boat, her in my arms and just listening to the waves and each other breathe.
"I hear steps on the path." She said.
I was quiet, trying to hear it. "i dont hear it."
"i have good hearing." She said, and stood.
Denny Hamlin walked over to the dock.
"Hey Denny!" Abby smiled, waving.
Denny had on sunglasses and wore a somber expression. As he got closer, i saw that he looked sad and heartbroken.
Abby saw it too. "Denny, what's wrong?" She asked.
Denny jumped onto the boat.
Abby met him. "Denny, what happened? What's wrong?"
I sat up.
"Abby..." Denny took off his sunglasses, now under the shade of the canopy. "Something happened to Jordan."
"What? Is she ok?" Abby asked, worried.
"She is now. She's in a better place."
"Denny. You cant be saying that..." She said, the color draining out of her face.
"She's dead." He said. "She was in Plymouth for a party, Sunday night. You know that. While she was there, she was drugged and raped then murdured."
"No! Denny, please say you're lying." She pleaded, eyes filling with tears.
Denny blinked hard, trying to keep his in. "i wish i were, Abigail. This is just a nightmare come true. Rett called me a few minutes ago. He said he couldnt reach you."
"The phone's in the house." She choked out.
"I'm sorry, Abby. She's dead. She's not coming back." Denny said, a lone tear slipping down his face.
She sank onto the seat next to me, sobbing, heartbroken.
I put my arms around her. "I'm so sorry Abby."
"My best friend is dead, cuz someone raped and killed her. I miss her already."
"She was my girlfriend, Abby. I miss her too."
She squirmed out of my arms. She stood, and with tears running down her face, she looked at Denny. "She was more than just your girlfriend Denny. You know what she told me yesterday before the race? She was carrying your child. your baby, Denny. You were a daddy."
Denny looked utterly heartbroken, and i was sad, and felt tears prick the back of my eyes.
"really?" He asked, new tears filling his bloodshot green eyes.
"Yes." She said, tears falling. "i'm sorry Denny."
He just started crying openly now, and Abby held onto him crying too.
After a couple minutes, Denny pulled back. "They want us in Emberton for the funeral on Wednesday."
She nodded. "ok."
Denny wiped away one of her tears. "I have to go. I'll call you later."
She reached out and wiped away one of Denny's. "ok. Bye Denny."
He hugged her one more time, then let go. "Take care."
"You too." She said.
Denny got out of the boat and left.
Abby shook her head. "i cant believe it. She's dead."
"I'm so sorry, Abby." i said.
"She was murdured. She was carrying Denny's baby. and now they're both dead." She said, a mixture of sadness and anger filling her voice. "She was so... happy-go-lucky. She didnt deserve to die like that, Kasey. This is a nightmare." She said looking at me.
She stepped onto the dock.
She wordlessly took my hand and pulled me up onto the dock.
"No one deserves to die like that, Abigail." i said, as we walked back into the house. "No one deserves that."
"The person or persons who did that to her certainly do. They wont get away with it. i'll make sure of it."
"Abby, if they did it to Jordan; they could do it to you."
"If anything, like you are; they'll underestimate me, and that's when i'll strike."
"Dont do anything stupid, Abby. I dont want to lose you."
"Dont worry about me. The one who did it to Jordan will end up worse than whatever shape i'll be in. Trust me, i'll make it happen."
