Years ago, Darkrai tried to corrupt the world, destroying and reshaping it to his own desire. However, he was stopped twice. The first was by two unknown Pokemon, and a believed-villain named Grovyle. The second, and final time, he was stopped by the same unknown Pokemon, with his archenemy Cresselia assisting them. Now, however, he has been targeting innocent Pokemon, destroying their minds and forcing them to become unwilling servants, obeying every command set forth by him. Only a select few have been able to defy his command, either by fleeing, or resisting. These Pokemon have formed an ever-enlarging group, appropriately titled "The Resistance". The leaders are the two Pokemon, with both intellect, and strength. They are: Mario, the Raichu, and PR, the Leafeon. Together, they will find other resistance allies, and hopefully defeat Darkrai once again.

"Hey, how's it coming along?" Mario asked. The duo were inside an abandoned building, one that they had reason to believe were hiding Darkrai's minions. PR looked at him and whispered "Haven't found anything yet." And he proceeded to sneak along the murky floor.
"You hear that?" PR asked. Mario strained his ears and heard some sort of bubbling, accompanied with some flashing lights. It was coming from the corridor to their left. They looked at each other, and exchanged brisk nods, then crept towards the lights. Soon, the bubbling became louder, and the lights even brighter, until they had to looks away or close their eyes when they appeared.
"Bu-bu-bubbles bu-bubbles, pretty little bubbles!♪" Something bright blue with a glowing antenna was blowing bubbles out from his mouth while playing in the cold water that drenched the floor in the entire building. Mario and PR exchanged questioning looks, then heard a splash. The blue thing looked their way, then waltz towards them, a happy smile on his face.
"Hi!" He said, grinning. PR couldn't help but think How oblivious is he?
"Um...Hi?" Mario said. The blue Pokemon reached out and shook both their paws.
"I'm Manaphy, the Manaphy." Mario snickered, then remained silent.
"I'm PR, the Leafeon, and this is Mario, the Raichu. We're the leaders of the Resistance." Manaphy opened his mouth in shock.
"The Resistance?! Ooh, can I join?! Please? You guys could use a water-type like me!" Mario and PR again exchanged glances, and they both decided that he might end up being useful.
"Sure, you're the first non-corrupted Pokemon we've seen, so let's go." Manaphy cheered, and after some more inspection, they left, deciding there was nothing worth coming back for.
"Now?"
"Go. Strike now!"

Mario's ears pricked up. He stopped and looked behind him at the building. It appeared normal.
"Everything alright?" PR asked. Mario turned back, then shrugged.
"It must have been my imagination, but I could have sworn there was a creak from the building."
"It's old! Of course it creaks, I've been living there for a while!" Manaphy said. Mario still appeared unconvinced.
Thud
Mario looked back, but the building still appeared normal. He kept walking, but kept glancing back at the building. As soon as he decided that nothing would happen, something broke behind them. Manaphy kept walking, oblivious to the noise, but PR and Mario stared at the building in horror. Half of the building was launched out towards them, shards of glass raining down wherever it passed.
"MOVE!" PR shouted. He and Mario sped towards opposite directions. The white lights trailing behind them were signs that they were using Quick Attack. Manaphy, however, kept walking.
"MANAPHY, MOVE!" Manaphy didn't listen. He kept walking, and he only turned around when the shadow was behind him. His face was filled with shock, and fear, but it was too late.
The building fragment came down upon him, burying him in a hill of brick, stone, and glass.
"Ahahahahaha!" PR and Mario looked away from their now dead friend.
"Who are you?!" Mario shouted, raising his tail.
"I am Dusknoir, and I am here to cleanse you of your betrayal. You will die, one by one! Any and all who join will suffer the same fate!" A black and purple vortex appeared behind the black figure, and he stepped into it.
"We will meet again, you can be sure of that. Make sure you're ready to die!" And with that, he disappeared.
PR and Mario were both dismayed at their loss. Their new friend, buried under tonnes of rubble.
"D*mmit!" PR spat. "We'll get that Dusknoir back for what he did!"
"Did you say Dusknoir?" A voice asked. PR and Mario spun around to see a Ninetails and a Lucario.
"Who are you?!" Mario demanded, preparing an electric shock.
"We mean you no harm. I am called Dragon. As you may see, I am not like many Ninetails, but that is beside the point."
"I'm Lift, a Lucario. Dusknoir is the main minion for Darkrai. He appears as a normal pokemon during the day, but when the proper time arrives, he becomes Dusknoir, and strikes with all his power. You guys are lucky to be living."
"Thanks for the info. I'm PR, this is Mario. We're leading the resistance, searching for recruits to help fend off Darkrai's corruption." A twinkle appeared in Lift's eyes.
"Resistance..." He muttered.
"It was worth coming after all." Dragon said, smirking. "We were searching for the resistance, and by luck, we found them. You can depend on us as allies. I've been proven to be a formidable warrior many times over. Lift is skilled at finding hidden things, even Pokemon." Lift smirked.
"Well, let's get--" Mario began. Lucario silenced him with a hand.
"Someone's around." They stood completely still. Then, there was an explosion, and darkness. Something red and white, as thick as the gap between two of the windows of the building, and as long as a never-ending snake rapidly advanced towards the group, the only thing visible in the dark. It was aimed for one of them: Dragon. Everyone jumped out of the way, hoping not to be hit, as they were nearly blind in the darkness, but the beam continued to follow Dragon. He closed his eyes, ready for his death, but felt something shove into his right shoulder.
He looked in time to see the beam slam into Lift, sending him flying back, a large gap in his torso where the beam hit. The beam faded, and a cackle was the only sound, echoing through the night.
"Well, it seems my aim was off. Ah well, one is down, but there are so much more. Enjoy your life!" He left with another laugh, and disappeared in the bright void. The midnight moon appeared, illuminating the darkness. Dragon, PR and Mario ran to Lift, who lay against the trunk of a broken tree trunk, bleeding. No breath came from him.
"He was a great friend." Dragon bowed his head. "Rest easy Lift, we'll take it from here." Drawing himself up, with the pride of a prince. Dragon turned to PR and Mario.
"Let's go, we have recruits to find." He walked past them, as they stared with astonishment at how well he could hide his sorrow. They both noticed that when he spoke, his voice quivered, as if he were almost frozen. They reluctantly followed, leaving Lift in his death position, not wanting to let the tears flow from giving him his proper burial.
Two losses in the same day. PR couldn't help but wonder if their luck could be any worse. Mario was not speaking. Dragon had his head bowed, clearly mourning for the loss of his best friend. PR couldn't bring himself to break the silence. They merely walked in the path of dirt, the only sound the light padding of their paws against the ground. A rustle sounded from beside them, and, out of instict, Dragon fired a Flamethrower in the direction. Out of the bush jumped a Kangaskhan, with a Teddiursa in it's pouch.
"Hey! Watch it! Can't we walk through the forest in peace?" She asked. Teddiursa raised itself slightly higher than usual.
"Yeah! You meanies!" Dragon looked surprised at the arrival of non-corrupts.
"I apologize, but these are harsh times. You cannot fault me for my reflexes. I am accustomed to the faintest of sounds, and am influenced to react as I see fit." Dragon spoke with the regality of royalty. It made Mario want to bow down to him and accept him as king.
"In that case, I accept your apology." Dragon seemed taken aback by that phrase: He had offered no apology.
Suddenly, the wind began to blow heavily. Dragon's head rose as he sniffed the air.
"Be careful, something approaches." The wind quickly increased in velocity, and suddenly, PR knew what was happening.
"How could this be?!" He shouted. Everyone looked over at him. Teddiursa was cowering in fear, the pouch he was inside, shaking along with him.
"What's wrong? What's going on?!" Kangaskhan shouted.
"We've somehow entered a Mystery Dungeon!" Dragon seemed shocked.
"How?! There was no entrance we entered!"
Then, the moonlight faded, blocked out by a large shadow. A sound, akin to a sword being drawn, floated in the air. The sound similar to ripping paper appeared. The shadow slowly faded, and everyone turned around to look.
A fearful shriek tore through the night.
PR stared in horror, tears leaking through his face. Kangaskhan covered her mouth in horror, and put a hand down to stop Teddiursa from looking. Dragon gasped and looked away.
There, on the ground, stood Mario, a scythe stuck in the ground several yards in front of him.
And across from him lay the other half.

"No, no this can't be!" PR shouted, the tears leaking like a waterfall. Dragon gave him a pat on the shoulder, and gave him the condolences he needed. They did nothing to help, however, as PR collapsed to the ground, shaking in anger and fear.
"He didn't deserve this! What addle-brained demon would do this?!" He smothered his face in the ground, muffling the whimpering and sobbing.
A few moments later, Dragon had left PR's side to meet with Kangaskhan.
"My name is Kaid." She said. "This Teddiursa, his name is Mr. Bear." Mr. Bear rose from the pouch, frozen lines from where the tears of fear had once been. He gave a weak smile, then returned. Dragon couldn't help but admire his bravery. "As we see you're not corrupted, so we would like to help you in any way possible. This Dusknoir must be incredibly powerful. You need all the help you can get if you wish to win."
Dragon nodded, accepting the truth of her words. "It's true. He is more powerful, and conniving than any foe I've ever faced. We must be cautious."
At that moment, PR raised himself off the ground, occasionally sobbing. Before Dragon could speak to him. He turned around and walked to the scythe. Dragon grew wide-eyed as he knew what was going to happen.
"PR you fool!" He shouted, dashing forward as fast as possible. For all his speed, he was too slow. As he was about to tackle PR, the scythe came down, and the paw the scythe was held by went limp.
PR fell to the ground, a silver blade, dyed with crimson blood, pierced through his neck. Dragon looked away in disgust.
"You fool...Have you any idea what you have just cost us?"
(summarised)[to be edited later]
Kaid, Mr. Bear and Dragon buried PR, then left to a forest nearby. Inside, they were ambushed by a Houndoom, named Shadow, and a Mudkip named Mudkip. After making a truce, the area went black, again, and Dusknoir cackled. As the area brightened, the team had been split up, each out of sight from the rest. A powerful attack charged towards Mudkip, but a Hyper Beam stopped it. The hidden defender said that it has been trailing Dusknoir for a while, and fired another Hyper Beam. Dusknoir dodged this one, and fled. The defender disappeared. After some more searching, the group unites.
(end of summarised bit)
"What happened?" Dragon asked. "There was some commotion in the direction you came from. What was going on?" Mudkip was still in shock. He swallowed, the veins in his neck prominent, and said, "Dusknoir attacked." Everyone grew wide-eyed at the statement. "It tried to kill me, but something stopped it. It was a Hyper Beam, and the one who fired it called itself The Defender. Defender battled with Dusknoir for a bit, then Dusknoir fled. Defender disappeared before I could figure out who it was." Dragon was taking in each word, his paw on his chin as if he were thinking of something important, which he was. Shadow took a breath to speak.
"So there's someone protecting us, and someone against us. What did defender say, exactly?"
"It said it had been trailing Dusknoir for quite a while now." Mudkip thought about it some more, then shook his head. "I can't remember anything else. If I remember anything else Defender said, I'll tell you." Shadow nodded, but Dragon stomped his foot on the ground, then blew a small fire on the ground.
"What are you doing?!" Shadow bared his teeth, a deep snarl set on his face."
"Be patient. Let me tell you my assumptions." Shadow slowly sank down to his feet, as did everyone else. Dragon paced around the fire, his head lowered to the ground.
"This is pure conjecture, but I believe both Dusknoir and Defender are both in this group." Everyone grew wide-eyed at the statement. Everyone looked at Dragon in surprse.
Kaid said "How do you know this?" Dragon thought about it for a bit, then spoke.
"Dusknoir and Defender were able to track our every move. Dusknoir trailed us, and Defender through Dusknoir. What better way to hunt down the enemies of a tyrant than being a double agent of those enemies. Which means one of us is Dusknoir, and one of us is Defender. Of course, this is just a guess.
"Something else: Dusknoir's powers are beyond regular Dusknoirs. Darkrai has probably outfitted him with new techniques. He can probably attack with every attack known to pokemon beneath him. Arceus, Mew, Mewtwo and others are exempt from that list.
"Now, this is greatly important. I don't have time. I'll come right out with it; I belive Dusknoir i--" The forest fell silent, even the fire stopped crackling. Dragon's eyes grew wide, and darkness enveloped the camp. A bright flash and the room was bright. Everyone was sitting the way they were before, with one exception.
Dragon was frozen solid. His expression carved into the ice. Wide eyes, small pupils, tight lips, fur on end. The area flashed brightly, making everyone cover their eyes, the light still fatal even under the cover of their eyelids.
"Shatter." The sound of glass breaking was heard, and the flashing stopped. Everyone looked up, and Dragon was no more than tiny pieces too small to see, lying in the dirt, soon to be swept away by the wind. Everyone stared at the fragments of ice left on the ground. A few seconds earlier, a great warrior had died, killed by a pokemon who had lost his sanity.
"What hope do we have now?" Shadow asked, eyes wide in fear.
Three left. Out of eight that were found, three are left. The trio circled around a large, swirling fire. It was the final remnant of a great warrior. The three paced endlessly, forming an endless circle around the fire. Suddenly, they stopped.
“There’s only three left.” Mudkip said. “One is Defender, one is Dusknoir, and the other is just normal.” He looked to the sky as he spoke. “If Dusknoir kills one more, we’re done for. Defender cannot defeat Dusknoir alone. So, I propose a simple solution.” He looked towards the two across from him, a strange light in his eyes, further intensified by the crackling fire.
“Instinct execution.” Kaid grew wide-eyed while Shadow recoiled a bit. “We may as well try and make Dusknoir’s job easier. However, there is a one in three chance that we can get this right. Although there is a two in three chance of being wrong, it won’t matter if we’re killed by Dusknoir.” Mudkip dug a hole in the ground.
“Find something to write on that can be transferred. Bark, a leaf, anything.” Mudkip moved towards a fallen tree and stripped a piece of bark off. Shadow did the same with a nearby tree, as did Kaid.
Ten minutes later, the execution began.
Mudkip drew one name from the shallow hole.
“Mudkip.” He said with no emotion in his voice. He threw the bark into the fire, then drew another piece.
“Shadow.” Shadow stiffened as the words echoed. Mudkip drew the last card.
“Shadow.” As soon as the last word left his lips, a torrent of fire burst from Shadow’s mouth. Mudkip dodged with amazing reflexes, and Kaid took a step back.
“So you got me. What of it?” Shadow laughed, and his eyes lost their luster. Instead, they became eyes that signified a lust for blood. “It doesn’t matter anyway. You’re just a joke, a poor, misguided fool. I was surprised it took this long. It’s obvious. I am a hound of hell. As such, I am the perfect execution, the perfect reaper.” Shadow laughed, one that seemed to signify his insanity. “Going by that same logic, I’ll assume it is you, Kaid, who is Defender.” Kaid’s face became one of a frown. An angry scowl that seemed to contain every bit of hatred she could muster. Shadow snickered in response.
“You don’t understand. Darkrai… Master’s goal is one of perfection! A perfect world that holds purpose, unlike this rotten hole. I am the one who can make this happen! I am the one who will make this happen! I was entrusted with the task of destroying anyone who got in my way. PR and Mario were two of the biggest threats. They were my targets, but I failed to kill them… at first. Then they recruited others. Dragon was perceptive. A sly fox that one was. I knew he realized who I was, who both my identities were. So, I had to kill him. It took a little longer than expected, but my goal came.
“Unfortunately, either he passed down the information to you, Mudkip, or you simply guessed. Those votes were wrong. I saw what Kaid wrote down. It was your name. I wrote your name! You faked this whole thing, you knew who I was from the beginning! Now it’s my turn. You can fake an execution, let’s see if you can fake death! When your neck is between my jaws, I’ll enjoy every moment that your life squeezes out like a crushed grape!” Shadow leaped towards Mudkip, but Mudkip was anticipating it. He swung around and launched an Iron Tail towards Shadow. The attack made direct contact, but it had little effect.
“Fool! Master gave me much strength, including my current physical and mental state! You can’t win fool! Your time is up!” Shadow leaped towards Mudkip, and a deep fire swirled inside his mouth.
“Blast Burn!” An extreme amount of fire burst out of Shadow’s mouth, heading towards Mudkip, who leaped out of the way. Shadow was quicker than that. He used an Extremespeed and fired another blast towards Mudkip, who again dodged it. The process repeated for well over a minute.
“Give it up fool! There’s no hope for you now! Look, even your supposed ‘ally’ abandoned you! There’s no way Master would accept your life in the new world!” Shadow laughed, but an incoming Hyper Beam forced him to dodge.
“So I left?” Kaid asked. Shadow scowled in response.
“Sorry it took so long Mudkip, I was busy setting up. I’m all done now, so…” Kaid launched an Earthquake, and the trees collapsed. Mudkip instinctively avoided the attack. Shadow however, was caged in. He howled, and a raging Fire Spin shot out, incinerating anything that would fall on him. He smirked, overconfident.
“Arrogant, aren’t we?” Kaid asked. She launched another Earthquake. This time, the soil rose up, flinging itself all over Shadow, including his nose and eyes.
“Agh! Wretch!” Shadow shouted. He swung his head around in an attempt to unclog his eyes and nose. “I still have my ears. Nothing you can do will prevent me from hearing.” Shadow laughed, and a large force slammed into his back, forcing him to the ground. It was a Hyper Beam.
“The air has always been friendly to me. There is no difference here, today.” Shadow grunted, and rose to his feet, staring towards the direction the voice came.
“Air, hmm?” he chuckled. “Let’s see if you like it when the wind forces you into a mass of chaos! Whirlwind!” A wind kicked up, and Kaid, began moving backwards. Eventually, she was lifted off the ground, and thrown into the air, landing on and off in the piles of leaves and bark. The wind eventually died down, and Kaid rose from the ground, bloodied and bruised.
“How did it feel getting thrown around like a bag in these fine winds?” Shadow laughed once more. He then crouched down, preparing to leap. “Now… Now, master, I can rid these pests, and create the new world!” Shadow leaped once more, fire raging in his mouth. Kaid closed her eyes, waiting for death.
It didn’t come.
Shadow was frozen in midair, eyes frozen, the fire disappearing into his body once more. Something dripped to the ground, and Kaid looked to see blood. The blood came from her. Or rather, something inside of her. Teddiursa had risen out of the pouch, and, with a fierce look on his face, thrust his claws through Shadow’s stomach, leaving a large hole. His bloodied claw reappeared on the other end, and it became clear that Shadow’s spine was broken. Teddiursa withdrew his claw from Shadow’s body, and watched as he fell to the floor, barely alive.
“N… No…” Shadow groaned. He coughed, and blood spewed over the dirt. Mudkip emerged from his spot, and stared in disbelief.
“You were not completely right Shadow.” Kaid stated. “I am the Defender, but I am Defending the real Defender. He did excellent acting, no?” She smiled, a forced one, obviously. Shadow coughed again.
“Master… Forgive me. I… failed. A new world… complete it… Master… Glory… to the coming age of darkness…!” Shadow collapsed to the floor, dead.
“It’s over.” Mudkip said, still in shock. “It’s really over.” Kaid smiled, and nodded.
“Darkrai is no threat now. Shadow was dangerous because of his hidden identity. Darkrai is obvious. Now, it’s up to God.” Kaid looked up towards the sky, hope in her eyes. Mudkip followed her gaze and saw that a bright light was shining some miles away in the sky. A beam of light flew out, powerful and fast, definitely lethal. It had one target, and it would never miss that one:
Darkrai’s end was near.
