The Kazakage and his children walked down the row of orphaned children, examining each. Temari, Kankuro, and the Kazakage were crying to find a good sturdy child for Gaara to play with, since everyone else neglects him. Gaara didn't once look at any of them, for he was afraid to see their terrified faces. "Gaara, pick someone," his father said, stepping back. His siblings followed their father's example. Gaara finally turned his gaze to the small kids in-front of him. They each had nervous faces. His cold eyes stopped on a girl who was smiling. Her small tacttoo on her collar bone showed that she was from the Leaf Village. He walked down to her, just staring. They each had a moment of curiousity. "Her." He pointed at the girl who's eyes were like trees, or wet sand. "Present yourself, girl."
"Yes, My Lord. Hello there! I am Mana Inuzuka, from Kohona."
"Gaara of the Desert."

Temari watched as Mana skipped happily beside them, taking the sight of Suna. She was really worried that she'd become afraid of Gaara, and end up dead. This girl was far to pretty. She was just a child, as the matter continues, Temari would just keep an eye on her. "Gaara! What do you like to do for fun?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. Gaara's aqua eyes switched to her face. "I usually swing." Her eyes lit up. "Common! Let's swing!" She cheered, grabbing his wrist. The sand popped up, knocking her hand away from him. "Oh . . . What's that?" Mana knelt beside the hovering sand, looking at it with a great deal of curiousity. Temari switched her gazes between Mana and the sand. "It's Gaara's protection," Kankuro answered. The Kazakage peered from his hat, seeing the little girl. He raised his brows, thinking of how strange she was, not to be afraid of his monsterous son.

"Here are the swings." Mana watched as Gaara sat on it, simply swinging. He didn't hold any emotion, just saddness. Mana sat beside him on her swing, grinning. "How high can you swing?" She inquired, starting off really high for a little girl. "I never tried." She frowned slightly, building up her hight. "Will you, please?" She used those big brown eyes of hers. Gaara started to go higher, barely even smiling. Yashimaru would be so happy that he found a friend. He'd have to introduce her to him sometime.

When they were done playing, Mana was walking with Gaara along the streets, getting surprised stares from several people. Upon Gaara's head was a flower-band, which Mana made from store-bought flowers. She seemed pretty capable to live on her own. "Gaara, I'm surprised. You haven't ran away." He glanced to her, not saything much. "In Kohona, I was a bad kid. I never went to classes on time, I played around when I was in school, and I wasn't very nice. I became worse than my friends, and eventually, they sent me here." Gaara's eyes widened at her small figure. She did have enough bruses and scratches to prove it. "Common, I want you to meet Yashimaru." He grabbed her wrist, tugging her quickly into his home.

"Yashimaru! This is my friend, Mana!" Gaara said excitingly as he pulled Mana at his side. His uncle looked down to her, kneeling at her side. "Well hello there, your Gaara's friend?" He smiled lightly, shwoing his kind side. "Ah huh! Are you his uncle?" This time, Yashimaru nodded. They all sat there, just talking about their interests and disinterests.

Little did they know, that something was going to make Gaara broken, alone, and feared.
