Heal~A Bella Swan love story~ Edward's Apology

I awaited for morning to strike once again as I stared out at the Sun from my window in my room. Alice was lying on my bed, seeing something. Her expression was blank. Eyes wide. I inhaled and exhaled sharply, not knowing what this day would bring.

"Danny."

I whirled around to Alice, my expression calming. "What did you see?"

She blinked unnecessarily and stared at me. "Where were you yesterday?"

"Oh. I visited Bella and Charlie."

She smiled. "Does Charlie like you?"

I nodded. "Yep. He’s cool too. We watched a sports—nice try! What did you see?" I insisted.

She sighed. "I would advise you to keep your thoughts away from Edward. We might have trouble today."

"Why?"

"Do you know Tanya of the Denali coven?" She whispered quickly. "Edward’s current mate. She is coming over for a surprise visit today."

I sat down beside her. "Why is that bad?"

"Because today is also the day that Edward is going to dump her and try to win Bella back. So I’m going to warn everyone to watch out today. Tanya has no idea about you, Edward’s remaining feelings for Bella, and her future break up."

I stared into space for a moment. Well, maybe that was what Bella was really trying to say when she mentioned she wasn’t ready for another relationship yet. She’s still waiting for Edward to return. And he is. This is not good news for me but as long as she is happy and that horrible aura of sadness subsides then I will be fine.

Alice and I left my room simultaneously and descended down the stairs where Esme, Jasper, Emmett, Rosalie, and Edward were relaxing in the living room. I wasn’t angry at Edward anymore even though I should still be. I let it go for now. Besides, I bought a new lime green and black Ducati motorcycle and I was dying to try it out.

"Good morning everyone!" Alice greeted, a pleasant smile on her face.

Carlisle must have already took off for work because he never showed up. I leaned against the window with my hands in my jean pockets, trying not to think. But soon it was time to go and Edward wished for everyone to drive themselves to school because he had an errand to run afterwards. Emmett and I darted outside after goodbying Esme. I retrieved my keys from the garage and rolled out the motorcycle. Emmett and Rosalie drove in his gigantic jeep while Alice and Jasper drove in her Porsche. Edward slid into his Volvo and I hopped onto my bike. No need for a helmet. I ignited my Ducati and listened to the loud roar of the engine. I revved it a couple times and balanced myself on it until Emmett, and Edward pulled out. Alice signaled me to go on ahead and I sped out, onto the road. I sped to ninety instantly, not bothered by the wind that ruffled my black short-sleeved shirt.

We arrived at school in a few minutes and I slowed behind Edward as we all entered the crowded parking lot. I caught many students staring at all of us, their expressions taken aback. I parked beside Emmett and kicked the kickstand down after turning the bike off. Alice tossed me my bookbag and I slung it over my shoulder. Edward walked over to my side. "May I talk to you?"

I nodded. Alice gave me a "look" and I instantly ceased thinking. "Let’s talk, then."

"Are you alright with me getting back with Bella?"

I considered my answer. Then. "You have Tanya, remember?"

"I know but she is not what I expected. We aren’t really compatible. I need Bella back."

"Are you asking my approval?"

"Yes."

I nodded. "Okay. What makes you think that Bella would want you back?"

His expression slightly hardened. "What do you mean?"

"You broke her heart, Edward. What makes you think she’ll take you back?"

"I made a mistake! She’ll forgive me! Won’t she?"

"I’m not sure." I thought about my confession to her yesterday. Edward growled.

"What the hell was that?! You told her that you loved her?!"

"Yes! And I still do!"

"No wonder you are doubting me so damn much! What were you thinking?!"

"I was thinking how much you killed her inside and how long it would take me to heal her!"

"What makes you think she’ll take you?!"

"Because I’ll never hurt her, unlike you."

He almost snarled at me but I stopped him. "Alright, Edward. Calm yourself. I will allow you to try and win Bella back. But if she doesn’t accept you, you will leave her alone. You do not know how much she is in pain because of your stupid mistakes."

Before he could say anything else, I turned and headed towards the building after seeing a crowd growing round us. We, vampires, were arguing in public and it could have gotten rough.

I headed quickly to first period where Bella surprised me by visiting my biology table.

"Hey Daniel."

I smiled. "Hello Bella."

"Listen, I thought about what you said yesterday and...have you heard about the upcoming...dance this Friday?"

"I don’t think so, but I’m interested. Are you sure you are even the dancing type?"

"No. I’m absolutely horrible at dancing but I thought we could still go."

I chuckled. "Don’t worry about the dancing part. I’ll have you there."

"Is that a yes then?"

Whoa..think this through so you won’t have to cancel out on her later. "I don’t know, Bells. I’m going through a couple complications right now."

During that short second, her face fell in such sadness that nothing else mattered to me at that moment except her. "And suddenly, those complications don’t matter to me. I accept your offer, Ms. Swan."

She smiled kindly at me. "Thank you."

I watched her return to her table just when Edward came in, fuming. The bell rung and he sat down beside me. We kept our distance from eachother and when I turned to look at him, he was glaring at me so fiercely, I could have snarled. But instead, I glared back. "Don’t tell me that you are actually going."

I didn’t answer, though my glare remained in tact. We stayed frozen until the teacher, whom I still didn’t pay attention to, called the class to order. From that, we turned away from eachother in silence. I relaxed my expression when Bella looked behind herself to see if we could control ourselves. I smiled at her to reassure her that we could hold off.

It was a long day.

Nothing happened until after school, in the lot.

I exited building "C" with a wary Alice, Jasper, Emmett, and Rosalie. Edward was seen standing by his Volvo. I watched for Bella and spotted her staring at something coming towards Forks High. Edward abruptly turned from his frozen position and quickly walked across the lot to meet a strawberry blonde vampire. Tanya.

"We need to stay by Bella." Alice whispered to us.

"She’s by her truck."

I was grateful that most of the students were leaving as we made our way over to the unsuspecting Bella. I reached her first. "Hey Bella."

"Daniel, is everything okay?"

She saw right through everything. We formed a protective circle around the human. I let my expression be serious. "No. Just stay in our sight and you will be fine."

Horribly, three things happened during that minute . Tanya snarled so loud that it echoed and looked directly across the lot to Bella in the middle of our group. I uncontrollably snarled a warning for her to keep back from her and the parking lot emptied so fast it was almost a blur.

"Daniel." Bella whispered my name in worry.

Tanya sprinted over the parking lot, teeth bared. There was no way in hell she was going to come near my Bella. Alice, Emmett, Rosalie, and Jasper all jumped in front of me to take her on..

"TANYA!"

Edward tackled her and I backed up against Bella as the vampire struggled and glared at her. I snarled again while protectively trapping Bella against her truck. Then I whirled around, opened her door, set in her with one hand, and closed it. Bella stared at me with wide eyes.

"Tanya, calm down. You are going to ruin everything!" Rosalie scowled.

"I knew it! You still love her!"

Blinded with rage, the vampire threw Edward off of her and lunged towards Bella’s truck with me guarding it. She screamed out my name as I lunged myself towards Tanya, my vampiric instincts taking over at once. Alice immediately grabbed my shoulders and yanked me off before we even hit the cement! Edward swept her off her feet, whirled around, and sprinted off in one second flat. I glared after her and Edward. My body remained in a defensive crouch until I heard the creak of Bella’s door beginning to open.

"Daniel? G-Guys, are you alright?"

We looked at her strangely and I winked at her. "We have your back Bella."

"Uh..why was Tanya after..." A thought must have came to her mind. "What did she mean by--"

"Nothing, Bells." Emmett interrupted, giving me a certain stare. He and Rosalie were both walking back to the jeep.

"Are you coming home or to Bella’s? Edward might still be planning to go there."

I looked at Alice and replied also in a whisper. "Where do you think I should go?"

"I think you should go with her..and ride with her. Jazz will take your motorcycle home."

I smiled and nodded. She looked over me. "See ya later, Bella!"

"Bye."

Alice skipped away and I looked at Bella, continuing to smile. "Who’s driving?"

She gave me a confused expression. "Huh? Are you coming home with me or something?"

"Only for a little bit."

"Um..."

"I’ll drive."

She began to object but I already had the passenger door open. "C’mon."

A smile formed on her lips and she walked around her truck and climbed in. I hurried over to the driver’s seat and swiftly slid in. She dropped the keys into my hand and I turned them into the ignition while grabbing the clutch and igniting the truck.

"Limit’s fifty right?"

She smiled at me. "Yeah."

I drove out the lot and towards the highway.

"So, this dance you speak of?" I asked conversationally. "It is this Saturday?"

She nodded then turned her head, trying to hide her blush. Softly, I grasped ahold of her chin and turned her back to face me. "I love it when you blush."

I heard her heart speed up and I removed my hand.

"Yes, it is this, uh, Saturday."

"And you said that you didn’t like dancing?"

She nodded, then shook her head. "We will worry about that later. Explain to me what just happened!"

I looked back at the road. "Put your seatbelt on."

She obeyed but then demanded it again. I sighed.

"Bella, please. Don’t ask."

"Just tell me! It won’t change anything!"

I looked at her hardly and she knew she was wrong. "Well, maybe not. Is Tanya angry at me? At Edward? I know this has to do something with our past together."

"Nothing gets past you. Tanya is a bit upset because...Edward still has...feelings for you." It hurt me to say it.

She was silent for a moment, staring at me. "What?"

By then, I was pulling into your driveway and she jumped out the same time I did.

"Daniel!"

She rounded the back of the truck and stopped me from walking away. I wasn’t even aware of it.

"Edward is coming over here to apologize to you." I did a crappy job of trying to disguise the pain in my voice. "He’s going to win you back. I know you want him to–"

"Dan–"

I stopped her. "Now you can go to the dance with him."

Before she could even begin the next sentence, I turned away from her and forgetting what I was supposed to be doing. She loves Edward and I can’t change that...

It was true...and I wasn’t sticking around for that heart-breaking apology...

I couldn’t find the courage to go home so I stayed in the forest by Bella’s house, wondering if I should have stayed. Something told me yes but my other half dominated it and so I remained in the tree, staring at the house. Her house.

Edward’s Volvo was parked in the driveway and it had been for about an hour. I assumed the worst and sighed deeply. Then the door of Bella’s house swung open and I could hear Bella’s footsteps charging outside. "Leave!"

What was this? Curiously, I leapt into another tree and listened closer. Edward came out behind her.

"Bella, plea–"

"No! You had your chance!"

No, they were arguing.

"Tanya doesn’t even compare to you, please Bella!"

"No...! I’m not going down that road again! My heart has had enough damage from you and it needs to heal!"

They were standing on opposite sides of the grassy lawn. Bella glaring and Edward apologetic.

"Let me heal it then!"

"Never again! There is only one person that can!"

"Please, Bella!"

"Daniel!! Please come back! Daniel!!"

She was calling for me. My body automatically responded instantly. I didn’t even think about it. My legs were already walking towards her. Faster and Faster....

The forest soon became a blur and when I stopped, she was standing right next to me. Tears flowing down her cheeks.

"Bella.."

She jumped onto me in a second, wrapping her arms around my neck and her locking her legs around my waist.

Edward whispered something quickly to me, his eyes soft and a smile on his face.

"Take care of her, Daniel."

As Bella cried into my shoulder, I looked at him and nodded. "Thank you."
