My Life...My Love Story .5.
idkk...umm....heres chapter 5. im leaving for a week on saturday, so i'll try to get out another chapter...no promises. hang in there!! thnx for all the support! At 12pm, there would be a huge counselor get-together, over lunch. That was in half an hour. Until then, all of the counselors (and there were a lot, because this place could hold a lot of kids) were just milling around. Some were hanging out, playing cards on the picnic tables, others taking a tour, others just lying on the grass, reading, others in their tents. I was just about to go over to a group of girls, when Connor came up to me.
"Hey!"
"Hey!" I replied. "How's it going?"
"Good, you?" he inquired back.
"Pretty good, meet any guy counselors yet?" Yeah, there were guy and girl counselors. This camp was just your basic, classic camp. Kayaking, bon fires, s'mores, hiking, swimming... For the next half hour, together, Connor and I hung out, and also met some new people. I felt more confident now that I knew Connor, so meeting new girls was easier. Pretty soon, by the time the counselor get-together was called, we had a group of 10 people - 5 guys and 5 girls, coincidentally - and we were all pretty close already. This definitely felt like a good summer already.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The counselor meeting was pretty good. We learned everyone's names, basic rules, requirements....
After the meeting, we still had an hour and a half until the campers started arriving. We all split off again, but this time, I asked Connor if he just wanted to walk around, with me. Him and me. Alone. He agreed. We walked around and just talked. I learned that he had a dog and that he was pretty sure that he wanted to transfer to Aldridge High. We talked and talked, and meandered along. Pretty soon, we made it to the huge rock wall. The famous rock wall. Like I said before, it's a super nice rock wall. It's always on the cover of the camp brochures. It overlooks the water. We both sat up on it and kept talking. We still had about an hour left and kept talking about sports and stuff. Eventually, I got the nerve up to ask him if he had a girlfriend.
"Naw... I don't." he answered flat out.
"Do you want one?" I asked, as I looked down at my lap.
"I dunno. I guess if someone right comes around." he shrugged.
I put my hands out behind me on the rock wall and extended my arms out all the way and sat like that. "Oh."
"What about you?" he looked over at me.
"Me?" I made eye contact with him. He nodded. "I used to. I was with this guy named Jake for a year and a half and then I broke it off with him right before school ended. I just... didn't think it would work, with me being away, and going into our senior year. I just felt like I needed a break, a new start. I felt like he was kind of tying me down. Plus, I didn't really love him." I explained. For some reason, I felt like I could trust Connor, especially because he didn't know anyone from my school so he couldn't judge on that.
"Ah." he nodded. "Are you interested in anyone?"
"Well, like I said, I dunno if I want a boyfriend, but I am kinda interested in someone. I dunno though." I sighed. "What about you? Are you even interested in anyone?" I was soo curious. Especially since the person I was interested in, was him.
"Umm.. yeah, but I dunno." he looked out at the water.
"Does she go to your school?"
"Uh... kinda." he held his gaze at the water while I held my gaze at him.
"Kinda?" I was confused.
"I dunno. Ugh... I mean, she knows who I am... I just don't think she's really... interested in me. I think that she thinks of me more as a friend." he told me.
"Oh." was the witty response I came up with. I looked my watch. We had about a half hour left. "We should head back." I told Connor. And we both got up and headed back.

The campers started coming right at 2pm. Most of them were nice, for the most part. Counselors weren't assigned a group of campers, it was more free-form, where the counselors all shared all of them. All of the campers had arrived by 3pm. There were about 100 campers all together. Since name games were too hard with that many people, we just had name tags. The campers unpacked and then we all got together and went over the same thing we went over as counselors - rules and expectations. After that, we had free-time for the rest of the afternoon, since it was the first day. But before we were dismissed, the camp director called everyone's attention.
"Listen up, guys," she started. "As you know, my name is Mrs. Brewer. The director of this shin-dig. Okay, this year, we've decided to start something new. We're going to have a karaoke night once a month, so we'll have about 3 of them over the period in which you guys are here. The first one is tonight." she paused and looked around, then continued. "Here's how it works - anyone can sing, who wants to. No criticising or being rude to the singers, it takes courage to get up there. If any bad attitude towards this happens, consequences occur. Such as a call to your parents or being eccluded in other events - such as the ice cream social." Ouch. Being excluded was not fun. It's never happened to me, but it's something that no one wants to happen to them.
Just then, my cell vibrated in my pocket.
JAKE, it read. Oh my god. This was the first I had heard from him since the broke up. I turned away from the group and checked out the text. HEY, THIS IS BELLA. I KIDNAPPED JAKE'S PHONE. :) WE'RE ALL HERE, HANGING OUT AT MY HOUSE. WISH U WERE HERE. EVRY1 MISSES U. HOPE UR HAVING FUN. XOXO-B.
So it wasn't Jake. Oh well. I texted back: MISS U 2. IN THE MIDDLE OF CAMP MEETING. THNX 4 THE TEXT. HAVE FUN. TTYL. <3 S. Then I shut my phone and turned back to the speech.
"So, there will be a huge list of the instrumental songs that we have, the ones you can sing along to - hence karaoke. If we had the songs with the singers singing in them, well, then we might as well call this even 'sing-along.'" people laughed and Mrs. Brewer smiled and then went on. "The list consists of about 100 songs, so you should be able to find something. They're all by popular singers and/or have been on the top 100 list at some point, so you should know most of them. Some old, some new. If you need the lyrics to part of the song, we have those too. Campers karaoke ends at 9:30, so you can be in bed, lights out by 10pm." the campers groaned. "The counselor karaoke will resume after 10, until 10:30. This event will be held in the Music Room in the main building, after dinner. Dinner is from 6pm-7pm, come anytime, buffet style. In between dinner and this karaoke night will be the camp bonfire. Campers and counselors." she paused. Everyone was silent. "Okay, you're dismissed. Since it's 4pm right now, everyone can hang out until 6 and then you guys can head over to the cafeteria. Have fun!"
