previously--> Just then, my cell vibrated in my pocket.
JAKE, it read. Oh my god. This was the first I had heard from him since the broke up. I turned away from the group and checked out the text. HEY, THIS IS BELLA. I KIDNAPPED JAKE'S PHONE. :) WE'RE ALL HERE, HANGING OUT AT MY HOUSE. WISH U WERE HERE. EVRY1 MISSES U. HOPE UR HAVING FUN. XOXO-B.
So it wasn't Jake. Oh well. I texted back: MISS U 2. IN THE MIDDLE OF CAMP MEETING. THNX 4 THE TEXT. HAVE FUN. TTYL. <3 S. Then I shut my phone and turned back to the speech.
"So, there will be a huge list of the instrumental songs that we have, the ones you can sing along to - hence karaoke. If we had the songs with the singers singing in them, well, then we might as well call this even 'sing-along.'" people laughed and Mrs. Brewer smiled and then went on. "The list consists of about 100 songs, so you should be able to find something. They're all by popular singers and/or have been on the top 100 list at some point, so you should know most of them. Some old, some new. If you need the lyrics to part of the song, we have those too. Campers karaoke ends at 9:30, so you can be in bed, lights out by 10pm." the campers groaned. "The counselor karaoke will resume after 10, until 10:30. This event will be held in the Music Room in the main building, after dinner. Dinner is from 6pm-7pm, come anytime, buffet style. In between dinner and this karaoke night will be the camp bonfire. Campers and counselors." she paused. Everyone was silent. "Okay, you're dismissed. Since it's 4pm right now, everyone can hang out until 6 and then you guys can head over to the cafeteria. Have fun!"

Turns out that campers hung out with campers, and counselors mostly hung out with counselors. So, this time, Connor and I joined the group again, completing the 10 of us, and we all hung out. The boys played tennis, and nearby, us girls sat in the grass and played hearts. One person had to sit out though. Ack. I did for the first round. Oh well.
After the game of hearts ended, we headed over to the tennis courts and watched the boys. We didn't have any campers with us at the moment. Anywhere a camper goes, they have to have at least one counselor with them, but you could have 3 counselors and 8 kids - as long as there was at least one counselor with at least one kid. And we did the 'bathroom buddies' system. But since we didn't have any campers with us, we all decided to head over to the chess room. Now. honestly, the chess room was not for chess. It had snacks in it. You could stop by there anytime between 11 and 12, and between 3:30 and 5pm. (breakfast is buffet from 7-10, and lunch is buffet from 1-2:30). Every half hour, a counselor on snack duty for the week, would refresh the drinks, chips, etc. After 5pm, it shut down because dinner would start in an hour. Pretty nice camp, huh? Yeah. There were sun chips, cheez-its, oreos, fruit roll ups, poptarts, fruit (apples, grapes, watermelon, clementines, etc) cheese sticks, yogurt, veggies (celery, carrots, cucumbers, etc), plus some other stuff. And the drinks were really good. They had a drink machine, but it didn't cost anything - you just punch in what you like. Vitamin Water, Bottled Water, Flavored Water, Juice (Nantucket Nectars, Juicy Juice, Minute Maid, Capri-Sun, etc.), soda (Sprite, Seven Up, Mountain Dew, Ginger Ale, Root beer, Orange Soda, etc), milk, and some other things. This is half the reason why everyone wants to come here. Good choices. Plus, Camp Freppan is really popular, but kinda pricey, so that's how they get all this money for this food.
After we all got some snacks, we still had about an hour until dinner. Oh and the four other girls in our little group of 10 were me, Isabella (Izzy or Bella), Lilly (Lyly or Lil), Chloe (Cloh or Lola), and Alyssa (Ally or Lyss or Sahs) (pronounced: sahh-sss). The boys were Isaac (Ize), Mason (Mase), Joshua (Josh), Gage and Connor. We all decided to go swimming in the in-door swimming pool. The girls went back to the girl-tent-area. You could pick where you wanted to sleep - 5 girls to a tent. You had to write it down the the clipboard that was placed on the picnic table nearby. Nobody had decided yet. So, Izzy, Lyly, Cloh, Lyss and I all signed up to be together. Perfect. Since I was the only one who had actually already gotten their bed situated and set up, all the other girls moved their stuff over into my tent. We all changed.... and we all had bikinis. I decided on my solid orange pastel bikini. It complimented my hair and skin tone, and made me look a little tanner than I really was. We grabbed out towels and flip-flops and got to the pooll.
The boys beat us to the pool, and started splashing. In case you're wondering, there are three pools in the school, one in each building. Ours was empty except for us. We set down our towels, slipped off our flip-flops and jumped in. All except for Cloh - we got in with the steps because she had to 'ease into it'. We all started splashing her anyway, and even though she was only into her knees, she went under anyway.
It was really fun. We played with the noodles and pool toys and just swam around. The pool was huge!!! We hung out for about an hour, and by then, the dinner buffet had started, and even though you didn't have to be there promptly at 6, we all wanted to. So we got out and went back to our tents and changed. Since there was a bonfire after dinner, I chose my dark blue sweats that said "take a dive" on the side, and rolled them up to a little below my knee. Perfect for changing into pants if it got too cold. I chose a cut t-shirt that was slightly tight, but hugged all the right places, that was grey and said, "not everyone can make the team. if they could, try-outs would be renamed as sign-ups. but it's not, so deal." in black script. It was one of my favorite shirts that I have. I put on a zip-up, solid, all-black sweatshirt on, and put on my dark blue flip-flops. I have dark blue flip flops, brown ones, black ones too. I packed all three. I looked at the other girls. They had all decided on either shorts or capri's too. We all decided to go to the cafeteria at the same time, so since I finished early, I did my hair into a messy bun and put some chapstick on. By that time, everyone was ready, and we headed to the cafeteria.
**
Dinner was good. I had a hot dog with lays chips and sprite. Yum. Plus apple pie for dessert. For dinner, it's required that all of the counselors sit at the same table. Well, that couldn't fit. But that we sit all sit in the same area, filling 4 tables. 10 each. 40 counselors. 20 girls, 20 guys. 5 counselors per tent - 8 tents per gender, 16 all together. ....sorry, I went off on that math detour. Anyways, 5 and 10 seemed to be the lucky number because my group all got to sit at one table together. Us 10 stayed in the cafeteria until last minute, then cleared our trays and headed out to the bonfire. We got to tell stories and eat marshmallows and make smores. Classic. There were 5 camp fires set up, each one with logs around it, allowing 25 campers per fire. About 145 people, and all the logs, all together, only held about 125 people. So, some people just hung around, stood up, walked around, sat on the picnic tables nearby. Karaoke started at 8:30, and the bonfire started at 7:30, so we had about an hour to just hang out. It was so fun. I sat around the fire for the first half hour. I sat with my 'girl-friends' - who, when I refer to them now, means the 4 other girls in my group. I ate about 20 million smores, well, exaggeration, but I ate a lot. I was getting up to go to the bathroom, when I saw Connor come over to me.
"Hey!" he said, walking over to me.
"Hi, having a good time?" I looked over at him. The camp fire was about 20 feet away, and it's glow was glowing off of him. He looked absolutely gorgeous.
"Yeah, are YOU having a good time?" he looked back at me and smiled.
"Yeah," I smiled back, "I am."
"Good." he nodded, "I'm glad." he looked over at the picnic table near by (there are picnic tables everywhere) and grabbed a marshmallow and a marshmallow-toasting stick. "See you later," he started to turn around, and waved
"Yeah....see you later." I laughed a small laugh and headed off to the bathroom.
I wish I knew who he liked.
