Catastrophe In The Making (Hogwarts) Tension And Surprises [10]
It's October, and time for the Halloween bash Kaylees moms holding. Wizards and non wizards will be there. Kaylee can't be at home, everyones getting ready for the party, so she decides to go to the mall with a little protection. But she encounters some unexpected people, and tension broods up wherever she goes. Somethings up and she wants to find out!Okay so heres number 10 because tomorrow I'm gong to be busy. Also for all the days I missed, enjoy and sorry for the mistakes. I was in a hurry!
I was lying at home the morning of October 31st, on my bed staring up at the ceiling. I was thinking about yesterday, saying goodbye to my friends at Hogwarts. There was no Halloween break or anything, but somehow my mom convinced Professor Dumbledore to let me go home for Halloween and the weekend. Some of the Slytherin students, like Malfoy, was also leaving that night to go back home. He was attending the party my mother was holding.
“You’re leaving? At Hogwarts there’s usually a big feast and everything during Halloween. Will you be back Monday?” Hermione asked as we all sat on the grass after classes.
“Mhmm, my mom is holding a Halloween party, and I have to be there apparently. Something about wizarding family being there, which includes Malfoys family, and some not. There’s no school tomorrow, we have the day off remember? And yes, I’ll be back Monday, at the school Sunday evening,” I explained as I heaved my luggage onto the carriage.
“Have fun, Happy Halloween,” all of them said as I exited into the carriage. I waved at them and on began the way back to the Muggle world.
I snapped out of it, and sat up and stretched. The whole two months of being in Hogwarts was hectic, which included the Quidditch practises every week, the tons of homework that was given, and the Occulumency lessons I was still taking with Professor Snape. I couldn’t get the hang of it, and each day the voices, dreams, became more agonizing, which made it harder to concentrate on blocking it out. There was nothing new about the voices, the dreams, it was repetitive, the same thing over and over again. But the pain increased only more, until I was sent to the Hospital Wing, in panic. This had all been kept secret, only my closest friends knowing about it. But not long, the Professors new about it, and eyes me cautiously during classes.
I had eventually forgiven Oliver, but didn’t say it to his face. We never spoke about it, just kind of began talking again. Everything seemed normal, but my roommates and Gryffindor friends only seemed to be more concerned with what was happening. Hermione was the one who was the most worried. When I spoke to her, it felt like she was hiding something from me, like she didn’t want to tell me something I should know. And it kind of hurt, when she didn’t trust me enough to tell me.
When I came home, James greeted me with a hug, and offered me to a midnight snack. Mom was in the kitchen, reading some letter that had come from the mail. She never said hi or anything to me, just glanced at me and continued reading. I wanted to get out of the house, because everything downstairs would be busy and crazy with everyone getting prepared for the ball that was going to be in the ballroom.
I headed downstairs all dressed for a good day. James served me some breakfast, and when my mother dropped in get a glass of water I spoke to her in a polite manner. “Mother may I go out shopping? I promise to be back on time to get ready for the Halloween party.”
“Very well, you have till 4:30pm and then you have to be home. Just remember your being a witch for Halloween, isn’t that ironic? Do remember we have muggle guests, so no magic. Or you’ll be in big trouble.” She said this in a not so mean voice, just an informative voice, the one she used when it came to business. It made me think that while I was gone, she kind of missed me and maybe went a little softer.
“Well? What the hell are you waiting for? I need you out of the house anyway; we don’t want you screwing up everything while the people are getting ready for the party in the ballroom. If you don’t leave you’ll be helping the chefs with the cooking, and scrubbing the dishes after the party,” She ranted as she gave me a hateful look. I stood up and left, not wanting to do any of that.
I got Matthew to drive me to the mall, my personal driver and bodyguard. He’s a quiet one, but then again he had to be. Only when I talked to him he’d speak, but he was still favourite. He had his chatty days, and he had his “I don’t want to talk” days. I respected that a lot.
When we got to the nearest mall, he followed me in and I felt a little embarrassed. He was a big guy, as in muscular, and in all black. He was intimidating, and walking beside him well made me seem fragile. People looked, and I tried not to notice.
“Okay Matthew, keep a good distance between us, just not close remember. You can follow, and still do your job, just- I don’t want to seem like a princess having a bodyguard around. Is that okay?”
“Of course Miss La Valle, if you need any help, or change your mind, just come and talk to me,” he assured me as he sat at the bench in front of the store I entered.
After an hour or so I did change my mind, letting him carry some of the bags I had to carry. He walked beside me in silence, as he looked around cautiously. We were heading towards the food court, ready to grab some lunch. After a while we broke into a conversation, only to feel as if someone was watching me. I looked behind me only to see some high school girls eyes on Matthew, giggling.
Matthew was young, about 21 or something. He was an honour student in high school, a big over achiever, including the fact he was VERY smart even though he didn’t go to university or college. He went to some training, which brought him here to the La Valle family as a chauffeur and bodyguard. He was handsome, clever, and strong (which obviously showed through his black t-shirt. He had dark brown hair and some deep brown eyes. I wouldn’t blame those girls for checking him out, if I were them, I’d check him out too.
“Those girls are checking you out, giving you googly eyes and giving me the evil glare,” I said thoughtfully as we stepped onto the escalator. He showed a grin and looked down at me winking at me.
“They’re not my type, besides they’re young. I don’t know why they’d be checking me out anyway,” He admitted as he looked behind him at the girls. They whispered to each other excitedly and giggled, again.
“First, I wouldn’t blame them for checking you out. Your handsome, and they’re highschoolers, and they probably think you are too. You don’t look your age, you look like a senior in high school,” I laughed a little and he did too.
“Kaylee! Hey Kaylee!” A voice called from a far. I glanced back to find Travis running towards me, leaving a group of his friends behind him trailing. Matthew stepped in front of me a protective hand on the small of my back.
Travis looked at Matthews arm, and stepped back his hands up in surrender. “Is this your...? Whoa man, I’m friends with her; I’m not hitting on her!” His friends were behind him looking at me and Matthew.
“No Travis! This is my friend Matthew, and my bodyguard. Family reason you know? Umm Matt I’ll be at the food court in a while. Just order me the usual, ‘kay?” I explained as I nodded at him.
“Kaylee, it’s my duty to protect you at all times-“
“I won’t go far I swear, you’ll be able to see me. Please? It’s just him and his friends!” I pleaded and when he gave in I hugged him. “Thanks!” He walked away shaking his head and towards the food court.
“ Guys this is Kaylee La Valle, the girl I talked to you about. The one I met the day before grade eight ended, I kind of crashed into her. Kaylee these are my friends, Mike, John, and Allen,” Travis introduced me to them and I smiled politely.
“Yeah we know! The one who disappeared off the face of the earth during summer. The one who went to private school!” Mike exclaimed as he grinned.
“He doesn’t stop talking abut you,” John said.
“You sent him into depression when he found out you went to private school without telling him. Kid was in a bad mood, all upset during school. He was no fun. Until you wrote him back of course, “Allen grinned in a goofy way as he patted Travis back. Travis playfully denied and punched him on the arm.
“So how long you here?” Travis asked.
“The weekend, I wasn’t supposed to leave since its not a break over there. But my mom convinced the head of the school to let me,” I explained, not giving too much information.
“What school you go to?” Allen asked me. I looked towards Matt, watching me as he sat down at a table with mine and his food.
“I uh can’t say. My schools well...really secretive. It takes private school to a whole new level.”
“Oh, like ones those like really rich familes get their kids into.” Mike snorted and looked me up and down. I bit my lip and fought the urge to say something back. “Rich people are snobs.”
“Dude she’s not like that,” Travis argued, defending me.
“Rich yes, but snob no. Well not me, but everyone that goes there aren’t rich. Its just kind of a family thing. Passed down from generation to generation, from people all over the world.”
“So I’ll see you tonight?” Travis asked as he stood beside his friends once again.
“Yeah I guess I will see-,”
“Kaylee?”
“Oh is this Mrs. La Valle’s daughter?” Hearing these voices struck a nerve in me. I spun around and almost fainted when I saw Malfoy and a woman with long blonde hair and striking resemblance in Malfoy. His mother. Her voice was so familiar...
“Malfoy?!”
“Mother, I’ll see you in the store,” He dismissed, her mother gleamed at me and shook my hand and walked into a Prada store.
Travis coughed from behind me, and Malfoy shot the boys a glare. Malfoy looked older than them, and stronger. “Malfoy? What kind of name is that? Yo, dude, is that your first name or something?” I heard John snicker, and Malfoys stare hardened ready to punch them all out for chuckling.
“It’s his last name, it’s something we do at private school,” I said to him, my voice sharp and cold. I turned back to Malfoy and placed my hands on his shoulders restraining him. He was still my enemy, and I despised him ever since that time in the common room, but there was no need to start a fight here in the mall. “Malfoy, he’s a muggle, let it go. There’s no need to have one of your temper tantrums right now.”
“Guys this is Draco Malfoy, a boy from my private school. Malfoy, this is Travis Pert, and his friends Mike, John and Allen. Travis is a friends kind of, I met him at the beginning of summer,” I introduced.
“Is he your boyfriend?” Mike asked as he observed Malfoy.
“NO!” Malfoy and I shouted in unison.
“Oh heavens no, actually he’s my-,“
“Enemy,” he finished for me. “We’re worst enemies.”
“You guys don’t act like you hate each other...” Travis grunted as he inched towards me.
“You should see us at school, always fighting.” I said nervously.
Then Matt came over, looked at everyone, especially Malfoy, and ushered me over to him. “Your foods now cold, you can eat in the car. Your mother wants you home by 4:30pm, and she told me to pick up your costume. We must leave now,” He sighed as he raked his fingers through his hair. I stared at him, because what he did was totally hot.
“Is he your boyfriend?” Malfoy asked a smirk on his face. He saw me googly eye Matthew, but Matthew never noticed.
“NO! For crying out loud I’m single and happy,” I moaned as I fixed my hair.
“Well La Valle I look forward to speak your mother,” Malfoy said smugly as he walked away. I glared at the back of his body as he walked. I was not looking forward to that whatsoever.
“I’m sorry for ditching lunch with you,” I sighed as I chewed on the fries in the drive home.
“I’m not supposed to care, for I’m here to protect and serve you. But I do care, you’re forgiven though,” he said in monotone.
We had already gotten my costume, which was a puffy black, frilly, lacy dress and a witch hat. No broom, but I planned on using my broomstick for Quidditch. I was glad I was wearing fishnet stockings, I hated showing my legs.
“What are you being for the party Matthew?” I asked.
“Vampire.”
“Are you planning on sucking anyone’s blood?” I smiled a little but he kept his face emotionless. His body stiffened as he drove.
“I don’t think she would let me. She’s too young for me, but I’ve fallen in love with her. Just by watching from afar. But it’s not meant to be, for she’s going to fall in love with someone else, in fact three. None of them are me, so I’ll move on.”His voice came out hoarse and he coughed to fix it. He didn’t say a word, and I felt sad for him. To love someone too young for him? But how did he know she was going to fall in love with three other guys, when it still never happened?
“How do you know? How do you know she’ll fall in love with three other guys?” I urged, his mouth twitched and I knew he was keeping something from me.
“There are things you don’t know about me Miss La Valle, and I’d like to stop talking about it.”
I kept quiet the rest of the way, and when I got home I was dragged into my room to get dressed, make up done, and hair done. What a crappy day so far, pretty much everyone seems pissed at me.
