Chapter Selector

It all started years and years ago, right where she was standing.
'This is where I met him...' Kiyomi thought, smiling to herself. 'Right here...' She ran her fingers along the chain-link fence seperating the school yard from the road that cars were no longer running down. It was late, and she could barely even see...
'Ogata Hiroto...I kept my promise...Did you keep yours?'
She seated herself on a bench, She examined the surface, though the only allumination was coming from a street light down the road.
Surely enough, it was still there. Writing etched into the wood...Writing they'd done when they were only twelve years old
'Future Mr. and Mrs. Ogata. Kiyomi Hiroto... best friends!'
Then some sort of odd smiley face that Kiyomi had completely forgot the meaning of.
'I promised I'd wait for you Pon...' She toyed with the ring around her finger. 'But where are you?'
'You aren't here.'
'Did you move?'
'Did you break your promise?'
'Are you still waiting for me, somewhere?'
'I believe in you.'

~
First grade was no joke.
Hiroto had been trying to get into the soccer game a few boys in his class were having, but they kept refusing. When one kid bowed out because he got hit in the eye, they finally let him in.
But then he was kicked out of the game again.
So he was left wandering the playground, looking for someone to play with.
He didn't notice the young girl in the same situation as him, though.
She had not been trying to play soccer, but just trying to meet some people. No one really talked to her.
Of course, it was her first day at school...No one really talked to the new girl much. She was used to it though, they always took alittle while to warm up...
She'd already been to three schools since kindergarden.
Her father's job took her anywhere and everywhere, so she had no real friends.
She had no idea, the only real friend she would ever make was trudging through the grass towards her without realizing it.
"Hey, you!" A high pitched, and to be honest, rather annoying voice called from the girl's left side.
She looked up. "Yes?"
"How many schools have you been to again?"
"Three, I think." She played with her sleeves nervously, praying they didn't think she was weird.
Hiroto could hear the conversation, but he really didn't care. He just wanted to kick a ball into a net and be dont with it.
"Three? That's alot...."
Then Hiroto noticed the girls in his class whispering about the girl.
He hadn't really looked at her yet, let alone spoken to her. Everyone thought she was really odd.
First of all, she was not Japanese.
Her name was Japanese, but she was not. Well, she could have been part, but it was not detectable at all.
Second, she talked weird. Sometimes she said things in differant languages, or with an accent, and other times she was perfectly fine with her speech.
And third of all...She was tiny. Smaller than every other girl in the class. Tiny.
Hiroto looked up curiously, and noticed the girl looking at her feet. She didn't look so weird at all, he thought...Just sad. He thought she looked nice, and having some one smaller than him was really cool...
He didn't see anything wrong with her.
So he didn't think anyone else should.
"Hey, don't be a jerk!" He said loudly, and all the girls looked up at him. "Just cause she's been to more schools than you doesn't mean that she's weird or nothin!"
The girl smiled.
"So leave her alone!"
All of the girls scattered.
"I'm Hiroto." Hiroto introduced himself.
"My name is Kiyomi.." Kiyomi was still smiling radiantly.
"Cool..."
"Yeah."
After that, they were inseperable.
