Part One

Before the headmasters finishes his speech, I sneak a peak down the table at Tom and his friends. Their heads are bent together, whispering about exciting things. I look down at my black pleated skirt and smooth out the ruffles. As the school begins the clap I adjust the silky black bow pinned neatly on the side of my head. Before I can even think about hunger, the feast appears before my eyes. Just as I’m about to pour a glass of pumpkin juice Toms green eyes catch my gaze. It only lasts for a moment, but I can feel the butterflies dancing happily in my stomach.
After speaking quickly with several of my friends, I sneak upstairs to unpack early and review my schedule. Just as I expected Tom is on his way to the dungeons alone. His usual followers tend to hang around the feast, while Tom prefers to prepare himself for school and whatever it is he does. I let out a sigh, so I don’t startle him from behind. He doesn’t turn around or say hello, but I can tell from his change in pace that he knows I’m there.
I pluck up the courage to speak to him; after all it’s been two months since we last “spoke” outside this very portrait hole.
“Hello Tom, did you have an OK holiday?” I ask him in my friendliest voice.
“You know I didn’t Leighton, so why bother me with these silly questions.” He responds coldly before mumbling the password.
“I'm sorry. You make me nervous, that’s all.” I mumble quietly, following him into the common room.
“You didn’t seem very nervous when kissed me on the last day of school, just two months ago.” He flashes you a wicked grin, and walks quickly up the stairs to his dormitory.
Without a chance to retaliate I wander up to my room, thinking about that very day Tom mentioned. Even though it was two months ago, the taste has yet to wash away from my lips. It wasn’t a particularly good kiss; it was rather chilling if I had to describe it. No matter, he hadn’t pulled away and that’s what counted. Despite the coolness from his lips, his body was like a heat magnet as it pressing against me. Before I’m able to can catch myself from blushing, Bella joins me on the stairs and walk with me to bed. Before my head hits the pillow, I begin dreaming of all things Tom Riddle. It’s good to be back.
The sun forces my eyes open, and before I can check time Bella’s wretched alarm goes off. I don’t understand how she wakes up to a blood-curdling scream every single morning. Despite her oddity, she was your best friend. Not only is she loyal beyond imagination, she is in Toms little club. They call themselves “death eaters”. I think it’s a little creepy, but danger excites me.
With a quick trip to she showers, and several magic spells I am ready for class. I can see Bella eyeing my straight hair enviously.
“Want me to do yours?” I ask politely.
“I can do it myself Leighton!” she says defensively.
Ten minutes later we walk out hand in hand, Bella’s frizzy hair hiding under her black hood. I try to hide my laughter at her feeble styling attempt. She just smiles at me knowingly, and continues walking. Its strange really, Bella is so strong with dark magic. I can’t understand how she struggles with such simple spells.
