On to the story now!

“Kage, get up. You’re going to be late.” Victor said in his Russian accent as he flipped on the light to the guest room I was staying in.

“As much as I love getting up at 4 in the morning, remind me again, why?” I whined and rolled over burying my face in the soft pillow.

“You are going to stay with the family they assigned you, remember?” He informed. That was just like him. Always giving as little information as possible.

“Thanks Vicki.” I said sarcastically and rolled out of bed and walked toward the bathroom to get ready.

“You haven’t called me that since you were little. I asked you to keep it that way.” He called as he walked down the hallway.

I rolled my eyes and got the shower started. I remembered when I was little and we used to have so much fun. That was before he was a Quidditch prodigy. But it ended sooner than anyone expected.

>>>>Flash Back< <<<<<<

I was ten and he was thirteen. I was spending the summer here. I was just about to start my first year at a very small wizardry school. Vicki called it ‘the girl version of his school’. (My childhood nickname for him- Vicki.) I had to stay with them because my mother had to work all summer to support us during the school year. Plus, I loved hanging around Vicki. He was my cousin and my best friend.

I was on my way back home after I took the train. I skipped across the front yard picking flowers as I went. I was such a merry little child. As I walked in, I set my suitcase down and went upstairs to find my mother. I heard voices coming from her bedroom. I stopped outside the door and listened.

“I will ask you one more time. Where is Sirius?” A male voice said acidly.

“I told you. I haven’t seen him in ten years!” My mother said desperately.

“Lies!” A woman yelled.

“No! He was imprisoned in Azkaban after the baby was born! He didn’t come to me when he escaped. Please, I don’t know anything! Do not use the curse again!” She cried.

“Crucio!” The woman yelled and in an instant my mother was writing on the floor screaming in pain.

I was just a little girl. I couldn’t watch as my mother was tortured. I ran across the room and knelt beside her.

“No, Kage!” She screams.

The woman let down her guard which caused the curse to stop briefly. The Man gave me a cold look.

“Kill it.” The woman said casually.

“Avada Kedavra.” The man pointed his wand at me and said the words.

My mother pushed me down and was hit in the chest with a green beam of light. Her body lay lifeless in front of me. Cold and Gone. I stared in shock for a moment. I pried my stare away from her face and turned to the man and woman. There was a black puff of smoke in their place instead.

I didn’t know what had happened frankly. I ran down stairs and picked up the phone. I dialed my aunt’s number and told her about the strange people and the beam of light and that mother wasn’t moving. She didn’t speak for a minute, and then she urgently said she would be there in a few minutes.

She was there soon, as she had promised. She found her sister lying on the floor and screamed and cried. She told me my mother was dead. I denied it until she convinced me. I sobbed and screamed just like any loved one would.

Later, my aunt contacted the ministry. She wanted to take care of me but they were going to travel a lot for Victor’s training. (They wanted to start early.) I was passed from horrible foster home to worse foster home. I lived somewhere different every year- changing wizardry schools every two years. I hardly ever kept friends. I didn’t see a point.

>>>>End of Flash Back< <<<<

I was now 14. But, my 15th birthday was in October. Victor was starting his seventh year.

I had finally convinced my –I guess you could call him a ‘social worker’- to let me visit my only family. It was a marvelous reunion. It was just for a few days before I went to meet the new people. I called them messengers. The only reason I was staying with them for the summer was so they could dump me at a new school with their kid.

This year I was staying with a family whose last name begins with a G, but I can’t remember.

I finished my shower; blow dried my blue hair, and got dressed. I trotted downstairs and saw all my luggage sitting in the living room next to Victor. It was almost time for me to go.

“Bye, Vicki. I’m gonna miss you.” I said in a baby voice.

“You’re such a child.” He laughed and hugged me. I hugged him back and he stepped away.

“Shall we get this show on the road?” I sighed.

“Yes.” He took out his wand and said a spell to zap my luggage away. I smiled at him as he turned to me and repeated the spell.

I was transported to a beautiful home. I was about to turn around when my vision blurred and a new picture was being played in front of my eyes. I saw a bushy, brown haired girl hugging me and saying her name was Hermione Granger. Then my vision blurred again. I blinked a few times and could see in front of me again.

A little late don’t ya think? I thought to myself.
