Chapter 5 - Forks High School
** Katy! Won't you stay here with me?" a girl asked me. I turned around to see the beautiful bronze haired girl from the diner. She was beaming at me and ushering me to come towards her. "How do you know me?" I asked stepping towards her. She was beyond beautiful and looked much different up close. Her skin had this faint shimmer to it and her features looked sharper and more perfect up close. Her cheeks were rosey and she was rather pale. "I've been expecting you to come Katy. It's time for school now. Wake up." she whispered. "Wait!" I cried reaching out to her, but she disappeared her brown eyes stuck in my head... Then I heard her voice faintly echo "I'll see you soon." **

I woke up to hear the alarm on my phone singing the theme song to Rescue Me. I groaned but turned it off and got up to go to the bathroom. I passed the guest room on my way and Jake was still sleeping. I plugged up my hair straightener and then went back in my room to pick out my outfit. I just put on some skinny jeans and a black t-shirt and a Victoria Secret PINK hoodie. Then I went back inthe bathroom to straighten my hair and Jake popped up around the corner making me shriek and fall backward.

"JAKE! Oh my god!! Why did you do that!?" I whispered angrily to him.

"Sorry. It's just my way of saying good morning." he smiled trying to hug me but I walked around him and into the bathroom to finish getting ready for school. I straightened my hair then put half it up and walked back to my room.

"Hey. I said I was sorry Katy. Don't I at least get a hug?" he asked quietly walking in the room and closing the door so we wouldn't wake Aunt Liz.

"Fine." I gave him a hug. But then I pecked him on the lips too. I could tell he wasn't expecting it, but he was satisifed.

"Thank you. So, can I drive you to school then drive into town or something?" he asked.

"At 6am?" I laughed.

"I meant later obviously Katy." he said as I gathered all the school stuff I would need and then went downstairs.

"I don't care." I said sitting my stuff down and grabbing a bowl of cereal. Jake just sat beside me and watched me eat.

"Jake, you know that annoys the crap out of me." I said making him stop staring at me.

"Sorry. You're just so cute." he said pinching my cheek.

"Ugh! Come on, I don't want to be late on my first day." I said putting my bowl in the dishwasher and we went out to the car.

We rode in silence to the school as I was thinking about the girl in my dreams. Why would that girl be in my dreamsWhy would she be expecting me at school today? This is all so confusing to me. I've never seen this girl before. Except for Saturday night when we got here. But even then I didn't stop to say hi or tell her my name or anything. And I doubt Chief Swan told her about me. He probably doesn't even remember me...

"Katy! We're here. You'd better go or you'll be late." Jake said snapping me ot of my thoughts and I saw students rushing to class.

"Oh. Bye Jake. Don't trash my car alright?" I said -- just joking with him -- grabbing my stuff.

"No promises." he smiled. " I rolled my eyes and got out. Now that my head wasn't in the clouds, I noticed that it was 7:50. So I pulled out my map and headed to building 3, room218.

* * *

The bell rang to dismiss for lunch and I began walking out of the room when someone tapped on my shoulder. I turned around to see the girl from my dream!

"Hi Katy! My name is Renesmee and this is Jacob. I know your new to the school and everything, so I was wondering if you wanted to sit withus at lunch." she said in this high soprano voice.

Wow. She's even prettier in real life. And her voice wasn't as high in my dream.

"Hello?" she said waving a hand in front of my face.

"Oh. Hi! I'm sorry. Of course. Thank you." I said apologizing for my stupid behavior.

Jacob -- dang, this boy is tall and muscular-- stared at me for a minute, smiled at me and followed Renesmee to the lunch room.

"Nessie! Jacob over here!" a girl cried out. We got our food and I followed them to sit with her. I sat down and Renesmee sat down beside me.

"Why are you so quiet Katy?" she asked.

"I don't know... Just first day nerves I guess."

"Oh. How is your first day going so far?" she asked me nicely.

"Pretty good. I've met a few nice people." I shrugged. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it was different than Kentucky. The girl in front of me started clearing her throat loudly.

"Oh sorry! Katy, this my friend Becka." Renesmee said.

"Hey! You're going to like Forks High the last few weeks of school we have anyways. So are you a junior?" Becka said enthusiastically.

"Yeah, I'm a junior. I think what I'll mis the most about Kentucky is the sunshine." I smiled.

"Yeah, I can tell you like the sun. You're like the tannest girl in the whole town. Probably theentire state of Washington. And the light on your hair... It's so pretty! It's like you have 3 different colors of brown in your hair. I bet it looks awesome in the sun!" Becka continued therest to herself.

"Jacob? Why don't you say something to Katy?" Renesmee said elbowing Jacob in the ribs.

"Fine..." he whispered. "So Katy, how old are you?"

"I'll be 17 in a few days. So... 16.Yeah. How old are you guys?" I asked them.

"I'm 17, almost 18. Ness and Becka are 17 too." he said pointing at them.

"Party!! Is that okay Katy?" Ness said.

"Huh? A party?" Iasked.

"Yeah, for your birthday silly! Me and my friendAlice are BIG party throwers. And I was thinking that since I didn't know you for your sweet 16, we could throw you a Sweet Seventeen instead. It'll be TONS of fun!" she smiled grinning ear to ear.

"So, what do you think?" she asked again.

"Um...I'm not a big party animal but sounds like fun. Just nothing huge. Please!?" I begged.

That was the last thing I wanted. A huge party without my friends. And I know you are probably thinking that a party would get everything off of my mind, but you are wrong. It would make things worse because we would all go to big parties together. Without Alissa, Kristen and Jake. Just as I thought of him, I got this huge knot in the pit of my stomach. It hurt pretty bad. I'm in deep...I realized my eyes were starting to water so I looked down quickly and played with the tab of my soda. I tried to stop crying before they fell, but it didn't work. I saw and felt one land on my hand and I tried to casually wipe it away.

"Katy? Are you ok?" Nessie asked putting a hand on my shoulder. Her skin felt unusually cool. Not like ice cold or something, but like they were simply... cold.

"Yeah. Um, I'm fine." I said straightening up to meet Remesmee and Jacob's worried eyes. Becka was secretly texting under the table and didn't notice anything.

"Jakob..." I whispered.

"Jakob? What about me?" he asked.

"Not you Jacob. My friend Jakob Hunt. I... I've just got this strange feeling that something's wrong. Since we were little, when ever we were apart and one of us hurt or something... I don't know how to explain it. We could just always tell. It's really weird I know, but I've got that feeling now." I said clutching my stomach and trying to ignore the pains, not only in my stomach, but in my head and my heart.

"I'm sorry Katy. But I'm sure he's okay." Nessie smiled trying to make me feel better.

"So, what's your next class?" Becka asked, remembering that we were sitting at the table with her.

"Oh. Um..." I really didn't know. I pulled out my schedule and it said,

"History with Mr. Miller."

"That's Jacob's next class! He'll show you where it is and you two could get to know each other better. What's your 6th period?" Nessie asked me, smiling at Jacob.

"Biology with Mr. Newman."

"That's my class! So I'll see you 6th period Katy! Bye Jacob. Bye Becka." Nessie said hugging me and Becka and giving Jacob a kiss on the cheek.

Jacob smiled at me and grabbed my bookbag. "Shall we?"

"Yeah. Thanks." I smiled back throwing away my untouched food. "Lead the way." After all it was still my first day. I'm pretty sure that if I tried to find the room I would go the wrong way and walk into the wrong class room or something.

I followed silently beside him. He's 17? He's so muscular for his age! And tall. This boy has got to be like 6'6 or something close to it. When we got to class, Mr. Miller introduced me, gave me my book and let me sit beside Jacob. That must have been why he grabbed my bag and took it to his seat, because he knew his seat was the only empty one in the room. We were in the middle of a lesson 20 minutes later when someone walked in and gave Mr. Miller a pink slip.

"Kaitlyn Kirk? You're checking out." he said. I grabbed my things confused, said good bye to Jacob and left.

When I got to the office I was expecting to see Aunt Liz but instead I saw Chief Swan waiting on me.

"Katy? Is that you? Boy you've grown!" he said walking over to me.

"Yes, sir. It's me. But, you checked me out of class?" I asked.

"Yeah. Well, your aunt asked me to come down here andget you because..." he paused and cleared his throat.

"Sir?" I asked extremely anxious.

"Your friend Jakob Hunt. He's been in a terrible accident." he looked down at me with regret.

I dropped my stuff on the floor and fell to my knees. I swear my heart -- and the world -- stopped.
