Love.

A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.

This human emotion had always confused Hyŭga Neji.

It was a word that was thrown around too frequently, falling from meaningless lips onto eager ears.

My eyes are open wide and by the way

I made it through the day

He saw the problems love could cause: fights, feuds and heartache.

He didn’t like it, not one bit, so why was he doing this again? He couldn’t remember, and to be honest, he didn’t care.

I watched the world outside
By the way, I'm leaving out today

He took a glance around his room, his belongings nowhere to be seen, but the strange thing was- he didn’t mind. Staring down with lavender eyes, he glimpsed at his suitcase the locks begging to burst but, it made him want to smile?

He was going to do it.

I just saw Hayley's comet shooting
Said ,"Why you always running in place?”

He wasn’t going to be the caged bird anymore, he was going to spread his wings and learn how to fly on his own. And he wasn’t going stop half-way above the clouds; he was going to go the full mile.

Even the man in the moon disappeared
Somewhere in the stratosphere

Tugging his jacket on, he picked up his suitcases and trudged towards the door, that light-weight feeling jumping around in his stomach. For once in his life he was doing something for him, not for the main house, not for Konoha.

But for him.

Tell my mother, tell my father
I've done the best I can to make them realize
This is my life

For years he had endured the gruelling tasks, the missions, and the permanent stench of death residing in his nostrils.

He hadn’t wanted anything to do with her first, with her smiles and her...optimism.

Now that was another word that confused him, how can someone have a permanent smile plastered on their face?

Obviously Nagasaki Suki did.

I hope they understand I'm not angry, I'm just saying...
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance

“And why do you wish for my blessing? You are not about to be bound in marriage, so have your way, but if you wish to enter matrimony then I suggest you find someone of worthier blood...”

Those words echoed in his ears, his uncle’s voice booming louder then exploding tags. You would think that his uncle would respect his actions of explaining his want to court the young girl. But no, in the eyes of his uncle along with the entire clan, Suki was not good enough for him.

You would think that this would make him happy as it would seem that they were looking out for his well-being.

Or merely trying to uphold their name in the social hierarchy.

Please don't cry one tear for me
I'm not afraid of what I have to say

“N-Neji-nii-san, I going to m-miss you, please don’t b-be a stranger...” Hinata said, freshly spilt diamonds trailing down her cheeks, her eyes now sore-looking and puffy.

He was taken back by her remark, they had never had the best of relationships, but he had grown up a lot since then. Swallowing his male, Hyŭga pride he pulled his younger cousin into a hug, leaning his chin on her newly grown locks.

“Arigatou Hinata-sama...”

Timidly she wrapped her arms around his torso burying her wet cheeks in his yukata shirt.

“Don’t forget t-to say hi to S-suki for me...”

“Don’t worry I wont, I am sure that she would love to see you some time...”

He couldn’t help the small smile of appreciation that lingered on his lips, letting his cousin loose from his arms and picking up his suitcases once more only to be tackled by the younger heiress.

“Neji-nii-san!” a low chuckle vibrated in his throat as she wrapped her arms and legs around his waist.

“Hanabi-sama...”

“Don't use that tone with me Neji-nii-san I’m not that little girl anymore...” she pouted playing with his lowly slung ponytail.

“Indeed, you shall have to look after Hinata-sama as it looks like she needs someone right about now...” he embraced the young girl, setting her down on the wooden floors, watching as she took her elder sister’s hand tenderly, a grin present on her lips.

This is my one and only voice
So listen close, it's only for today

Once again his faced donned a stoic facade, his pupil-less orbs glancing sternly at his uncle, the look being returned with as much endeavour. His expression could be described as sour, like he was constantly sucking on a lemon, but this was Hyŭga Hiashi at his norm.

“Uncle...”

“Neji...”

With his suitcases now securely held in each hand Neji bowed from his waist, his hair falling over one shoulder in the process. He brushed past his uncle, the tension evident in his cold demure, but he didn’t care, he was almost there.

Now standing outside of the Hyŭga compound, the breath that was unknowingly being held was released past his lips, his posture visibly relaxing- not slouching.

Hyŭga Neji does not slouch.

Ever.

I just saw Hayley's comet, shooting
Said "Why you always running in place?”

Of all the times Neji had walked along Konoha’s bustling streets he had never once taken into account the city’s sights properly as normally he was thinking of ways in which to administer torture treatments to certain members of his team.

I.e.: Gai and Lee and Ten-Ten [Sometimes]

But now, with a burden lifted off of his chest he was able to almost appreciate the nature that evidently surrounded him.

And he always wondered why people assumed he was blind.

Even the man in the moon disappeared
Somewhere in the stratosphere

After turning and winding down many streets and avenues Neji finally arrived at his destination. Standing in the quieter part of the city was a small yet welcoming house; like the trees that he had managed to overlook everyday, stood a multitude of flowers each standing in its own colourful glory.

Tucking one suitcase underneath his arm he unhooked the gate latch, the white panelled gate swinging freely. As he walked down the pebbled path he noted it was now evening, the stars all out playing in the sky.

Tell my mother,
Tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize
This is my life

His heartbeat increased, his breathing now out of sync as he edged towards the front door, the matching white paint on the door giving off a sort of soft luminal glow.

Setting his suitcases on the front porch he ran his fingers through his hair, but before he could knock on the door he found a familiar mass of chocolate hair in his face, arms wrapped around him for the third time today.

A genuine smile crept onto his lips, the light-weight feeling returning to his stomach as he too embraced the chocolate haired person.

“Neji...” she breathed into the crook of his neck, arms secure keeping the young man close to her.

“Suki...” he chuckled tipping the young girls chin tenderly before pressing his lips to hers, missing the sensation dearly.

Suki chuckled against his lips tangling her hands in his oh so shiny locks, not wanting to let go.

Breaking the kiss, a smile burst onto her lips taking a suitcase in one hand and Neji’s hand in the other as he too picked up a suitcase and held onto his lover walking into the house.

I hope they understand
I'm not angry, I'm just saying...
Sometimes goodbye
Is a second chance

After all she was his second chance.
