Ear Ringing Remedies: A Personal Story

Created by tinnitus43 on Monday, August 10, 2009

Going to disco pubs can be fun but not always. There was a particular night when my friends and I had so much fun. Enjoying the music with everyone else, no one was concerned about the noise – the loud speakers and the beats. After a few hours of soaking in the noise-saturated pub, we finally decided to find another place. Stepping outdoors, I was expecting to feel the comfort of silence, but there was something eerie. I was hearing a high tone in my head. I asked my friends if they heard it, too. But it was only I who heard the ear ringing. Remedies were not yet in my mind then because I thought it was something which if I slept over with went away the next morning. I was mistaken.

The next morning, I was phoning my friends, who passed my complaints as some prank. Two of them even laughed at me saying, “Are you going nuts?” They barely had the idea what I was going through. My ears felt as if they would burst. I was having difficulty hearing over the phone actually. It was like my friends had to repeat what they were saying two or three times before I could understand what they said. My brother said, “You’re acting so weird today. What’s gotten into you?”

Over the next few days, I noticed the ringing in the ears come and go. Though I was bothered, seeking medical help did not enter my mind. I thought the doctor might laugh at me. I was really worried. I stopped phoning my friends to tell them about how worried I was, since they only taunt me. It was about after a week since I went to the disco pub when I noticed the high tones in my head get louder at night. My hearing seemed to have gotten normal, but the noise in my ears was overwhelming at night. I was desperately hoping for ear ringing remedies, if there were any.

“Ok, here’s how I’m gonna explain to you what’s happening,” says an attending otolaryngologist at an ENT clinic not so far from home. “You’ve been going to disco houses, clubbing all night long, and, what’s more, you’re into alcohol and some extreme noise,” he continued. He was explaining to me while pointing to a human ear image on a computer screen. According to him, I suffered some damage, which might have started long before I had ringing in my ears. Noise damage accumulates over time. “Right now, you got to bear with it,” he said in a concerned tone. There are a lot of ear ringing remedies, according to him, but not everything works. He prescribed ear maskers and ear muffs though.
