Causes of Tinnitus
The causes of tinnitus are obviously induced by a problem in the ear. But the fact that tinnitus can also cause pain and discomfort in the head and neck, the condition scopes a more complex discomfort. There are three areas that should be checked up when you discover you have a ringing in the ears.
Ear induced problems causing tinnitus are cochlear damage, impacted earwax, ear infections, Meniere’s disease, an ear drum puncture, ototoxic drugs and tumors. Noticeably, most of the causes of hearing loss are the same factors that will cause tinnitus.
When sound waves are altered with a complication in hearing, there will be a problem with the brain’s interpretation. The brain in turn will still try to find the exact sound wave. While this happens, a break in the whole auditory process occurs. This is the phenomenon called tinnitus, or the ringing in the ear. This happens because the hairs in the cochlear are of the ear are broken due to a considerable exposure to high noise frequencies. This also happens to people having holes in their eardrums. This partial hearing loss has effects of ear ringing.
An inflammation in the inner ear caused by an ear infection can deflect the flow of the sound waves. Thus, it causes a ringing in the ear. This also holds true for those who have a tumor in the ear for this can block the sound waves. The frequent attack of vertigo for those who suffer Meniere’s disease also has the effect of ear ringing. The vertigo attack can be eased through medication. For those with problems of the tonsils and would want to undergo tonsillectomy, a sudden onset of tinnitus following tonsillectomy may also happen.
There are drugs that are identified as toxic to the ears and causes of tinnitus. These ototoxic drugs cause adverse damage to the auditory glands when used in a long period of time. Although in some cases, the degree of ototoxicity is determined through certain medication doses. It is very important that once you notice that your ear ringing worsens while taking in a certain drug, it is strongly suggested that you need not to have a personal decision to the complete stop of your medication. What you need to do is to immediately confer with a doctor. Your physician might recommend you a certain dose.
