So far, my experience in a metropolitan area was looking as if it was drowning itself. Where was this place anyway? Who was the damn host? I swear I was going to fucking slap him senseless for having the stupid party in the heart of the city.

I was the living proof that lingering in a car for too long might cause irritation accompanied by a lot of curses, and possible brain damage.

Jake was irked too, I could tell by the drumming of his fingers. It was as if he wanted to bore a hole into the steering wheel with his fingers. So I decided to make conversation. "What is up with the traffic tonight?" I seethed.

Maybe not a pleasant start to a conversation...but any conversation would do!

He laughed and said, "You know how things are in the city," he muttered. "Although I can't help but feel our little 'party' have to do with one tenth of the traffic," he said. "What do you mean by 'one tenth'?" I asked. I took in the view that was slowly polluting the earth. Sheesh, maybe we should just walk from here or take the subway. Surely, the mysterious 'party' was for friends and their friends/date/relatives only right?

Right.

Jake chuckled. "Do you know Monique Baroque, Sam?" he asked, and I just had to gape in astonishment. "The...actress?" I said, barely in a whisper. He casually nodded. "I'm a friend of hers when she was still struggling in acting classes," he said, and as if he was reminiscing about the past, he gave a small chuckle.

"A-and Brandon?" I said before I could stop myself...or think properly.

He shrugged. "They met a few months ago in a premiere," he explained. "So I guess something must've clicked between them."

You have got to be kidding me!

It must be ridiculously nice to be rich, I thought glumly. I slipped out of my heels and brought my knees up to chin. If I was going to be stuck in this traffic, I might as well make myself comfortable or else I might just kick my way out of the car and stretch my legs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever traces of the rain earlier had evaporated, and as soon as I got out from the car with Jake by my side, I almost lost my footing. Paparazzi were lurking about, taking photographs of someone walking towards a tall building that was clearly reserved for the night.

Jake motioned me to stay close with a wave of a hand as he didn't walk towards the front entrace, but rather...the back. We were greeted by a bouncer guy who apparently, knew Jake. Brandon was not kidding when he said that Jake was a socialite.

Inside, the temperature went down a tad and to be honest it was really hard to survey the room with so many people dancing to a trance song that was blasting out of the sound system at the max. volume while the lights and laser beams shoot out crazily from every corner a person could imagine.

"And here I thought we were going to have a nice, quiet dinner and dance a bit later for those who wanted to do so," I said, smiling sarcastically. Jake returned the sarcastic smile. "Oh, I'm sorry. I thought this was quiet enough for you."

I laughed and I sat on a four-seater black leathered sofa while Jake took a chair that looked as if it was made of glass. That, or some ridiculously shiny plastic. Someone would have to spend time to polish the thing that one might wonder if that someone had a life.

When we ordered our drinks and talked for a bit, suddenly a red-haired girl with dazzling bright green eyes appeared and said happily, "Jake! You've made it!"

"Hardly," he replied, getting up with a teasing grin on his face. "Next time, please do try to host a party somewhere outside town so somehow traffic could be evitable," he said. "Monique, Sam. Sam, Monique," he said, taking a step back.

"Oh my god, are those Miu Miu's?"

I think I was going to like Monique Baroque.

Jake rolled his eyes. Monique turned to Jake and said, "Darling John is here," she said, grinning. "I'm sure he wants to meet you to tell his great news."

"Great news?"

"I hear wedding bells," Monique sang and a few moments later, a very amused Jake excused himself and walked towards the crowd. Not a second later, he was already nowhere in sight. Monique sat next to me and we started to make conversation.

I couldn't believe it. As hard as I tried to keep cool, a goofy grin was plastered across my face now and then. Here I was, talking to a notable rising star as if I had known her for ages. But that's probably because she was very easy to talk to. She didn't look cocky like most stars for her age.

I giggled at a remark she made about a girl who was dancing horribly to the song, but a few feet near her, I saw Brandon talking to a couple of friends including the girl from before. "Got your eyes on Brandon Compton eh?" Monique said in a low whisper and nudged me whilst giggling.

"Well..." I trailed off absent-mindedly.

I couldn't answer that. That was a bad sign.

With trembling hand, I picked up the glass of club soda that the waiter had placed on a glass coffee table in front of me. I should stay away from Brandon until I knew what was wrong with me or what I was feeling.

"Unfortunately, he already has a girlfriend," she said, wrinkling her nose. "I don't think it's a serious relationship. I honestly think Eve is in a one-sided love relationship thingy," Monique continued, waving her hand. "Don't tell her that though," she said, winking.

Brandon turned his head towards me as if he was aware that someone was watching him all the time when he was talking. Our eyes met across the room and I didn't know about him, but I definitely felt something huge - though I didn't know what - at my heart.

I had to practically force myself to look away. "So do you reckon he will search for another girl then?" I added in casually. She shrugged. "I once had this little chat with him, and he said if things between him and Eve doesn't work out he would pull out of the dating game for a while until he's really sure he'll meet the perfect one."

"Kind of unusual for a guy isn't it?" I asked, confused. Amber always said that guy were after one thing. Monique chuckled. "Not really. You've got to admit that some of them aren't really perverts. It was hard for him to admit that though. I was on the verge of insanity just trying to pry it out of him."

So far, I got the picture of what Monique's personality was.

"As far as I know, you still have a shot at getting Brandon, Sammy," she continued, giggling. Even though I wanted to say that I didn't like him in any way, I giggled with her too. That girl's laugh and smile were infectious.

"A shot at what?" a low voice asked over the loud music. I looked up and my heart skipped a beat.

So much for avoiding him.
