If you watch Where the Wild Things Are online, you might feel like you've traveled back in time. Children everywhere have grown up with this story, originally a book by Maurice Sendak, and now they'll have the chance to see it as a movie.

The book's main character is a boy named Max who has been into mischief and has been sent to bed without supper. He runs from his yard, to a fence, then to a lake, then to an island where there are Wild Things, and they make Max their ruler.
Watch Where the Wild Things Are online and you'll see a warm and fuzzy integration of live action, animatronics, suitimation, and CGI into a lovely visual feast. One night, Max bites his mother and is banished to his room, but he runs away angry.
Max, running from his mother, crosses a fence, and finds a boat. There he sails across the water. Max eventually makes it to the island where The Wild Things are, led by Carol, who is played by James Gandolfini.
They declare Max the ruler of the Wild Things. Others in the cast include Catherine O'Hara, Lauren Ambrose, Mark Ruffalo, and Forest Whitaker. It would have been made into a movie in the early 1990s but Maurice Sendak couldn't find a director he really wanted to work with.
Sendak later found Spike Jonze, director of Being John Malkovich, and ended up offering the job to him.
Jonze and Dave Eggers eventually (in 2005) spun a full length screenplay out of the book which is only 10 sentences long. Sure, it may have taken the better part of two decades to be made, but watch Where the Wild Things Are online, and you'll know it was worth the wait.
