The Love Between a Black Mage and a Quincy: pt 1

My name is Keiko Mariana Tagenushi. I've finally come back home to Karakura Town. This is where I belong and where I know I won't have my heart shattered. It's my first day of school at Karakura High. My homeroom is room 1-3. When I entered the room, there was only one other person in it. As I was going to take a seat behind him next to the window, I saw his face. When I saw his face, I knew exactly who he was.

Me: Uryu Ishida?

Ur:(looking up at me) Yes?

Me: *smile* It's so good to see you again.

Ur:(pushing his glasses up) Do I know you?

Me: Huh? You mean you don't remember me? Of course. I shouldn't be so surprised. The last time we saw each other was 8 years ago.

Ur: 8 years? Wait a minute... *gasp*(standing up) Keiko?! Keiko Mariana Tagenushi?!

Me: *giggle* That's my name! Don't wear it out!

Ur: Where have you been all these years?

Me: All over the world. I wanted to get stronger, so I left Karakura and traveled the world.

Ur: So you can control your powers now?

Me: Yeah! Do you still have that burn on your back from when we were 5?

Ur: Yeah.

Me: I'm really sorry about that.

Ur: It's okay. You had just discovered your powers that day. I don't blame you.

Me: It took me 10 years to master my powers.

Ur: Mine too. So, are you here to stay?

Me: Yes, and I'm going to be in your homeroom with you!

Ur: Cool. Are you going to join any clubs?

Me: I've already joined 2.

Ur: Really? What are they?

Me: Cooking and Sewing club.

Ur:(extending hand) Then, as the current president of the Sewing club, it is my honor to welcome you to our organization.

Me:(shaking his hand) Thank you, Uryu.

Just as we took our seats, an orange-haired girl came in.

Gi:(perky) URYU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ur: Ohhhhhhhhhhh... Here we go again.

Gi: How are you today, Uryu?

Ur: I'm well, Orihime. And you?

Or: I'm doing great!(noticing me) Who's the pretty girl behind you?

Ur: This is Keiko. She's my childhood friend. She'll be in class with us from now on.

Or: That's so cool!(to me) Hi, I'm Orihime Inoue!

Me: Keiko Mariana Tagenushi. Nice to meet you, Orihime.

Or: Likewise. So, do you have any embarassing, blackmail-material childhood secrets about Uryu?

Ur:(blushing) ORIHIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me: *giggle* Sorry Orihime! That's for me to know and for you to never find out.

Or: Aw foofy. You're just about as much fun as he is.

Me: Sorry Orihime, but Uryu's my friend. I can't betray his trust. I don't know what I'd do if Uryu wasn't my friend.

Ur:(blushing) *in head* Keiko.......

Or: That's so sweet! I want to be your friend too, Keiko!

Me: I'd like that.

She nearly crushed me in a hug as a boy with orange hair and a girl with black spiked hair came in.

Or:(to them) Hi, Ichigo! Hi, Rukia!

Both: Hey, Orihime.

Me:(choking) Orihime... I can't breath.

Or:(letting go) Oh. Sorry.

Ru:(to me) Hi! I'm Rukia Kuchiki.

Me: I'm Keiko Mariana Tagenushi. Nice to meet you, Rukia. And it's nice to see you again, Ichigo.

Ic: Do I know you? I mean you do look familiar but...

Me: You don't remember me?(standing up) Maybe this'll help.

I elbowed him in the gut and sent him flying out the door where a tall, muscular student caught him.

Ic:(breathless) *cough* Wait! You're that Keiko Mariana Tagenushi?! The sweet little girl who could kick the sensei's butt in a second?!

Me: *giggle* That's right.

Ic: Good to have you back.

Me: *smile* Good to be back.

Ic:(to boy behind him) Thanks for the save, Chad.

Ch: No problem.(to me) Hello. My name is Yasutora Sado, but you can call me Chad.

Me: Nice to meet you, Chad. I'm Keiko Mariana Tagenushi, childhood friend of Uryu Ishida and Ichigo Kurosaki.

Ic & Ur: Uryu?!(Ichigo)/ Ichigo?!(Uryu) (both) You know him?????!!!!!!!!

Me:(answering both) Um......... Yes?

Both: Why didn't you tell me???????!!!!!!!!!!

Me: Guys, we were kids. Can't you get over it? Please?

Both: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ur:(to Ic) Don't yell at her like that!!!!!!

Ic: Newsflash, Uryu! You're yelling at her too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ur: We're not talking about me right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ic: Don't get mad at me for doing something you're doing too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me:(slamming hands on desk) Both of you, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone got quiet.

Me: I don't know what happened between you 2 before I arrived in town, but it's going to be forgotten or I'LL KICK BOTH YOUR BUTTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNDERSTAND?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both: *gulp* Yes ma'm.

Me: *smile*(calmly) Good.

After that, class started and ended quickly. I'm glad class is over because it's time for lunch.

Me:(to Ur) Uryu?

Ur:(looking up at me) Yes?

Me:(blushing) Um.......... I was just wondering if we could eat lunch together?

Ur: *smile* I'd like that.

So we left the classroom and Uryu led me to a sakura* tree behind the school that we ate lunch under.

*sakura= cherry blossom

Me: It's so nice here. I'm surprised that you remembered my favorite type of tree is the sakura tree.

Ur: Of course. This is my favorite place because it's calm and relaxing.

Me: Yes, it is.

Ur: I'm glad you're back, Koko*, because now I have someone to eat lunch with and to talk to.

*Koko= Keiko's childhood nickname given and only used by Uryu

Me:(blushing) Glad to be back, Uryu.

I haven't told anyone this, but I have a major crush on Uryu. I wish I could tell him, but I'm just too shy. A month has gone by and by now, Rukia, Chad, Orihime and Ichigo have found out about my powers. I've endured many battles with the hollows and last night, Rukia just disappeared. Today, no one remembers her except for Chad, Orihime, Ichigo, Uryu and I. I wonder what happened. Today is also the 11 year anniversary of my parents' deaths. I'm going to the gravesite just as soon as I finish packing my stuff. As I walked out the door, I ran into Uryu.

Me:(blushing) Y-Yuyu*! W-what are you doing here?

*Yuyu= Uryu's childhood nickname given and only used by Keiko

Ur: Waiting for you.

Me: Me? Why?

Ur:(slightly blushing) Well, I wanted to walk you home. If you want me to.

Me: Of course you can walk me home. I just have a few errands to run first.

Ur: OK.

*Uryu's POV*

Koko dragged me all over town looking for a decent flower shop and then we went to someone's gravesite. I wonder who's buried here. Koko obviously knows.

K: Hi Mom. Hi Dad.

Of course. Her parents. That's why she's been so sad all day. Her parents were murdered right in front of her eyes by her best friend 11 years ago. His family were friends with her family and he killed her parents because her parents didn't want her around him anymore. Thanks to my grandfather, he was sent to one of the best correctional facilities in America. I'm surprised that she's been able to keep smiling all these years. After 10 minutes had passed, we left the gravesite and I walked her to her house which is 5 minutes away from mine. I had to ask her a question before she entered her home.

Me: Koko.

K: Yes?

Me: Should I stay with you? Do you think you'll be able to avoid the nightmares this year?

K: *smile* I'll be fine, Yuyu. Don't worry about me.

Me: Either way, I'll leave my cell phone on. Just call me if you need anything.

K: I will. I promise. Good night.

She entered the house and closed the door behind her.

Me: Good night, dark hime*.

*hime= Princess

*Keiko's POV*

Me: *in head* Yuyu's so sweet. I really shouldn't worry him. Oh, well.

I went upstairs, took a shower and layed down in my bed. I ended up falling asleep until 1:00 AM when I woke up from a nightmare about the night my parents died.

Me: *in head*(looking at clock) What time is it? 1:00 in the morning?(grabbing phone) Should I call him? He did say to call if I needed. I have to. I can't go back to sleep now.

I called his cell.

Ur:(over phone) Hello?

Me: Hi, Yuyu. Sorry to call you so early.

Ur: Koko? Is something wrong?

Me: Well, it's just...

I started crying.

Ur: Koko?

Me:(crying) I'm sorry, Yuyu. I know it's early, but could you come stay with me? I keep trying to forget that night, but the images won't stop haunting my mind! Please. I need you.

Ur: Okay. I'm on my way.

Me: Thank you, Yuyu.

I hung up the phone. It took Uryu 2 minutes from the time we hung up our phones to come running through my front door after unlocking it with the key I gave him. He closed the door behind him and locked it back up. He found me in the living room on the pull-out bed watching TV. He looked like he was out of breath.

Me: Yuyu, did you run over here?

Ur: Of course I did. I couldn't just take my time while my best friend is sitting here crying now could I?

Both: *in head* Though I wish we were more than friends.

Me: Thank you, Yuyu.

Ur:(laying down next to me) That's what I'm here for, Koko.

I layed my head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around me. We fell asleep together. I'm happy he's here for me. When I woke up the next morning, Uryu was gone.

Me:(wiping eyes) Huh? Uryu?

I looked down to my left and saw a note on the pillow.

Me:(reading aloud) 'Dear Keiko, sorry for leaving without saying something. I've gone to Urahara Shoten to enter the Soul Society and rescue Rukia. I'll be back soon. Don't come. I don't want you to get hurt. I'll tell you all about it when I get back. Promise. Be safe. Uryu.' Idiot.

I got dressed and grabbed a doughnut for breakfast on my way out of the house as I made my way to Urahara Shoten. I found Chad, Orihime, Ichigo and Uryu in the shop's underground training field.

Me:(to 4 of them) You guys aren't thinking of leaving me behind, are you?

Ic & Or: Keiko!

Ur: Keiko????!!!!!

Me: In the flesh.

Or: Wow! I like your outfit!

I was wearing black converse with black jeans and a red T-shirt I made myself that said 'Touch me and die'.

Me: Thanks!

Ki: Miss Keiko Mariana Tagenushi?

Me: Hi, Kisuke! It's good to see you again!

Ch: You know Mr. Urahara, Keiko?

Me: Yep! He used to be my baby-sitter! He took care of me when my parents were away.

Ic: But you seem so normal.

Me: Ichigo, that's rude!

Ur:(to me) Keiko, what are you doing here?

Me: I'm going to the Soul Society to get Rukia back. What else?

Ur: Keiko, I told you not to come.

Me: Did you really think I was going to let the 4 of you have all the fun?

Vo: Actually, 5.

I looked down to see who talked to me. It was a little black cat.

Me:(picking it up) Awwwwwwwwww! A kitty!!!!!!

Ca:(angrily) Kisuke..............

Ki: Sorry, Yoruichi. I forgot to mention that Keiko goes nuts when it comes to cats. At least she completly ignored the fact that you can talk.

Yo: THAT DOESN'T EXACTLY HELP ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me:(putting him down) Oh, so this is the famous Yoruichi? When I heard the stories about him, I thought he was a girl that you had a huge crush on, Kisuke.

Yo:(looking up at me) Is that so? Why did you think that, Keiko?

Me: Because he praised you so much.

Ur: Keiko, you got off topic!

Me:(turning to him) Huh?

Ur: I told you to stay home!

Me: No way am I going to stay home when 4 of my best friends are putting their lives on the line!

Ur: At least you'd be safe!!!!

Me:(fighting back tears) How can I be safe without my #1 best friend at my side????!!!!!

Ur: Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh.............................

Me: Now either you let me go or I'll be forced to burn you somewhere much worse than your back, Quincy boy!

Ur: *gulp* Okay. Fine. You win. You can come.

Me: Yay!

Ic: Geez, Uryu! Grow a backbone!

Uryu wanted to tell Ichigo to shut up, but I beat him to it.

Me: Shut up, Ichigo! You know you're just as afraid of me as Uryu is!

Ic: Yeah, but you've never used your powers on me.

Me: Oh, really? *in head* Wateraga!

A huge flood of water came down on Ichigo's head.

Me: That's what you get for being so smug.

After that, Kisuke explained to us how to get to the Soul Society. We only had 4 minutes to make it through the gate. Uryu got stuck while we were in there and was able to get unstuck thanks to Chad. If it wasn't for Orihime, we probably would've gotten stuck inside the gate. I don't know about the others, but I had a pretty soft landing, considering that I landed on my butt.

Or: I'm glad we made it out okay.

Me: Me too. I was almost sure we weren't going to make it out on time.

Vo: That's great Keiko, but can you get off me now? I can't breathe.

I looked down to see that I was sitting on Uryu's stomach. Now I know why my landing was so soft. This was emabarassing.

Me:(blushing;getting off him) Eeep! Sorry, Uryu! Are you okay????!!!!!

Ur:(sitting up) Fine. You?

I didn't exactly hear him ask me if I was okay. I was super lost in those beautiful and perfect ocean blue eyes of his. I want to tell him how I really feel about him, but I can't. I finally heard someone calling my name.

Ur:(shaking me) Keiko?

Me:(blushing) Oh. Uh... I'm sorry, Uryu. Did you say something?

Ur: I said 'Are you okay?'.

Me: Oh, yes. *smile* I'm fine.

Yo: We should split up. We'll cover more ground and be less of a target that way.

Me: Yoruichi's right. I'll go with Uryu. Ichigo, stay with Yoruichi. Chad, I'm trusting you to take care of Orihime. Can you do that?

Ch: Yes.

Me: Good. Let's all promise to made it out of the battles we face alive.

Yo: I promise.

Ic: I promise.

Ch: I promise.

Or: I promise.

Ur: I promise.

Me: I promise. Now, let's go!

We split up.

Me: Uryu, we should try to be discreet!

Ur: Good idea!

Uryu and I kept running toward a white tower where I could feel Rukia's prescence. She's in that tower. I know it. While we were running, we were doing our best to keep ourselves hidden from the soul reapers. When night fell, Uryu and I ran into the captain of company 12, Mayuri Kurotsuchi. I fought my hardest, but I failed to beat Mayuri. After beating me almost completly senseless, he punched me in the face and sent me flying.

Ur: Keiko!

Uryu was able to catch me before my body hit the ground.

Ur:(shaking me) Keiko! Speak to me! Are you okay??????!!!!!!! Keiko????!!!!!

Me:(breathing heavily) Uryu... I'm sorry, but... I don't... have much power... left. I shouldn't... have been... so... stubborn. I'm afraid... that this... may be the... last time... I see you.

Ur: No! Don't say that! Don't you dare die on me, Keiko! You're my best friend! I just got you back and I'm not about to lose you again! I can't lose you! *in head* I love you!

He layed me up against the wall and went back to fighting Mayuri. After 5 minutes, I couldn't hold on to my cosciousness anymore.

Me:(blacking out) U-Uryu...
