Dervish ran to me, and grabbed my hands. "Urchin! Oh my God, are you OK?"
I nodded. "I didn't think I'd see you ever aga-"
Police barged in, and restrained Dervish.
"No!" I shouted, getting up.
"Do you know this person, miss?" a female officer asked, holding Dervish's left arm.
I nodded. "Yes, I know him well! He's my ex, let him go!"
They let him go, but eyed him uncertainly. He acted as though they weren't there, and hugged my tight, and pecked my lips. "I saw everything on the news, and had to rush over. I was so scared I was about to have a heart attack!"
I hugged him back, and took in a deep breath. "I'm OK. I'm fine. You're here. That's all I care about." I kissed his lips, but longer then a few seconds.
Jarred was in a corner, feeling as awkward as ever.
Days turned into weeks turned into three months. I was in a police station now, just after getting out of a mental hospital. Everything is running smoothly, Derv by my side the whole way.
I was sitting by myself, and alone. It was kind of cold, the winter effect settling in very, very well. I glanced around uncertainly, and nearly crapped my pants when the door opened.
Detective Portman walked in. He had taken a handling on the case. He had a rough look, but was a sweet man, always making sure I was well and OK. Dervish has only met him once, and is convinced the police guy has a crush on me. I only laughed and walked away.
Portman gave me a Fanta and sat on the table. "How are you feeling?"
"Much better then a few months ago, thankyou," I smiled, and took a sip. "The headaches have gone, but the nightmares aren't siezing. I'm gonna try hypnocile next week."
Portman nodded. "That's good, about the headaches, I mean. I could only guess so much with the nightmares."
He's sweet, as I said.
"Can we get through it, please? I'm sorry to rush, and it's not like I don't appreciate your company. I'm gonna meet a friend I haven't seen for a while, and I kind of can't wait. Being crazy, and all..."
He nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry... Urchin?"
"Yes?"
"What happened, three months ago?"
I sighed, and my chest tightened. Dervish and I had run over this story thousands and thousands of times, until it was like it really did happen, and like the memory was actually there."I came home... Late after work..." I sighed and shuddered, not believing I was lying to a law officer. "The lights were off... the door open... I walked in. I thought Mum was playing a joke at me, you know? I... I went in, calling for Mum. Saying it was all stupid..." My hand holding the Fanta was shaking, and I used the other one to stop it. "Blood was on the floor, but I didn't smell it. I didn't think it was... Hers." I gulped and shivered, tears gathering in my eyes, my mind trying to piece together what it really would've looked like if I really was there, the last moments she would've delt with. A thought slammed against my skull, and my breath caught in my throat. What if a demon had snuck through a window when I opened it? What if it was that cute demon, Lithe? I began to hyperventelate as all these thoughts accure. What if I killed my mother? What if I set it all up? "If only I didn't listen to her!" I sobbed, and dropped my head in my arms, my Fanta spilling everywhere. "If only I hadn't burnt the note!"
Portman frowned. "What note?" I would've answered him, but I was a total wreck. I couldn't stop crying. I killed my mother!
Someone came in and snapped at Portman, and ordered I be taken out. When I was taken out, I saw Derek. I paused, then bolted to him, wrapping my arms around him. I was grinning ear to ear, crying out of happiness now. No one had been able to see me in my 'delicate state', as the doctors called it, which I think is a load of bull. I was fine. I acted a little, yeah. Dervish said I had to. It was the plan to act disturbed!
Derek swung around, and cried in joy. "Urchin!
"I missed you, Derek!"
"I missed you too, Urchin..." He kissed my forehead and hugged back. "They were at my house..."
I pulled back and gawped at Derek. "W-what?"
"The killers... who killed Lilli... They killed my girlfriend when I was at work..."
"Oh, Derek, I'm so sorry!" I kissed his cheek and hugged him tighter. I wanted to cry. My body was aching me to cry, but I couldn't. I tried.
"The neighbour saw him. A bit..."
"Derek...?"
"He must've been dressed in a halloween suit... a bloody one... Like, rags. They said he had red skin... blad, and bleeding. Non stop bleeding. He was sketched, but the neighbour said he didn't look like it... No one could draw the monster... Monster with no nose..."
What ever else he said I didn't hear. I didn't need to hear anything else. I knew exactly what was going on.
Lord Loss was in the neighbourhood.
