Dear blank sheet of paper (which isn’t so blank anymore),
I require your assistance on a certain topic I have at hand. Allow me to elaborate formally the subject matter. In my agenda, I will, in all honesty and humility, need your prowess. Your expertise and skill in this field will be greatly essential in the creation of this article. Please fill this sheet of paper with anything extremely awesome and eye catching instead of the usual nonsense I scribble endlessly. Please note that I am not urging you to fill it as fast as possible. Just take your time. You have all the time in the world. I would like you to remember that you are not on ‘time pressure’ so don’t fret.
Just be reminded that I need that extremely awesome topic-story-article thing in less than five minutes.
P.S. I will pass you to Blue Quill afterwards.
F.Y.I. You were warned.
Sincerely yours,
Me
Did you find this letter addressed to this piece of paper somehow bizarre? While stumbling upon it, did you feel perplexed that it was indeed strange conversing to an inanimate object? Did you ponder over the fact that it is peculiar for one to entrust something to a lifeless entity? If you have answered yes to all this questions, then I have done my purpose in writing this. But before you stab me in the eye with a random pen in response to the lingering feeling of encountering something peculiar after not finding my point in writing this, let me elaborate further. The one true reason of this is simply to discover our inner weirdness and to accept ourselves with all the weirdness we may contain.
Honestly speaking, I’ve had a lot of weird experiences. Weird occurrences going on with my life, weird persons met day by day and probably, more weird things that I do. There was that one time in my life that to kill the boredom I was encountering, I had to send a message, via cellphone, to one of my friends. Here’s how the note went:
“Dear ebun kong kaibigan,
Anong ulam n’yo?
Sincerely yours,
Ebun mong kaibigan”
That, ladies and gentlemen, probably was the weirdest text message I had sent just to eliminate the dullness of the moment. But of course, before I babble about my personal familiarity with the topic ‘weirdness’, let me give the general definition of something that is weird. As defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, weird came from and old English word: ‘wyrd’. This word, before the early 12th century, meant destiny or fate. But now, the term weird, is more likely to be used in describing unnatural occurrences. It also is generally synonymous with the words: perplexing, bizarre and strange.
Well, the reign of the 12th century has ended (obviously) and we are in the 21st century. As the common knowledge of the term weird is now identical to the word odd, it’s ironic that the actual word ‘weird’ had a errr… weird meaning in the earlier days. But moving that aside, after being acquainted with the definition of what weird is, we realize that we have our own imperfections, our own odd habits and bizarre traits that define us as a person.
Our own peculiarity denotes familiarity. It may either be good or bad, but one things for sure. Every one of us has our so called individuality and uniqueness through the definition of the word weird. It suppresses boredom. It adds adventure and thrill to one’s life and destroys too much familiarity. In other words, being weird isn’t all that bad (with all the good points I’ve given). Being weird simply means being someone who has his/her own individuality amongst a crowd. So if someone calls you ‘weird’, don’t take it as an insult. Take it as a reminder of your distinctiveness. Don’t let it offend you, after all, we’re all weird, in one way or another.
