LGBT stands for, respectively, lesbian gay bisexual or transgendered/transsexual people. Not surprisingly, the more that gay and lesbian individuals become accepted in the planet, the more cash they spend. There are various firms that have now realized the massive business that gay travel and tourism is changing into, and who are working to get the 'pink dollar' in their pocket.
Gay travel destinations and tour groups are a nice means for professionals in various lifestyles to relax and unwind. Many parts of the US do not yet accept gay lifestyles, and couples who are homosexual or lesbian find themselves hiding a lot of their non-public activities. Being able to sign up for a gay tour or travel cluster is a real comfort to them.
Some cities are more progressive than others. Several have what are called 'gay-borhoods', neighborhoods with housing and services purposely geared to the gay community. Gay travel choices often aim to take individuals from their own less progressive towns and cities to areas such as this. Areas like this are referred to as gay friendly or gay specific, and tourist agencies strive to mimic this special catering.
Many cities support the gay travel and tourism industry. Cities like Sydney, Australia host gala celebrations like the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. This huge bash is known internationally as the New Mardi Gras. To support attendance by gay individuals, airlines sponsor the event and provide gay-friendly transportation from round the world.
Different in style events that gay individuals like to travel are film festivals. Canada, a country known for welcoming the gay travel and tourist community, provides these and different attractions. Gay individuals wish to participate in traditional activities that everyone else does when traveling. Both urban and outdoor activities made friendly and specifically for gays are on the market in Canada and other countries. A gay tour that has safety and respect is an ideal outlet for a professional gay couple.
A good 10 p.c of tourists and travelers are reportedly gay. That is no small number. Many other tourists are hiding their true nature and lifestyles. That's why so many travel firms are attempting to cash in on the 'pink dollar' or 'pink pound' by catering to gay travel needs. More and more this can be changing into an active and growing industry, and gay tours are becoming an everyday part of 'normal' travel agencies.
In the years of World War II, it absolutely was illegal to be a homosexual in the United States. Therefore, folks typically referred to themselves as 'friends of Dorothy'. Though the theories behind this saying are uncertain as to whether or not it is Dorothy Parker or Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, this term stuck. Within the eighties, gay groups who needed to publicize their meetings on cruise ships would ask workers to announce a 'meeting of the friends of Dorothy'. That was how the word got out for gay individuals to meet and commemorate while touring the world.
Tourism is a international trade and gay travel is only one part of it. However, with passing years and additional acceptance, the gay population is happily taking an energetic role in selecting what to try to do with their luxury time. The gay friendly or gay specific travel destinations open up, the more money there will be to be made by third world countries in need of a replacement trade or economic resource.
