9) Be stupid enough to not get the message and make him a strawberry smoothie instead.

Even though it's cold.

Even though he won't speak to me.

And I felt bad.

Did I do something wrong?

Why did I cared so much?

The rest of the week went by slowly as I kept myself locked in my room after finding out that there was nothing much to do. So I did the homework that our teachers assigned instead. Before I knew it, my first week here was over.

It was the 5th of December and the temperature stayed the same, althought it was still a bit cold. I logged into the Catherwood International Boarding School website and saw the updates about the fire. I browsed around a bit for information.

Information.

My mind reeled back at the time when Tyler said he heard it "in the news".

And now, there was this useful thing called 'Google'.

Quinton, Jason and Kevin. Who were these people?

My fingers tapped the letters to Nathan's name. There were numerous results popping out so I played around with the keywords until something caught my eye. A link to a news site and it was reported in California.

"Honey, dinner's ready in 5!" my mom called from downstairs. "Okay, I'm coming downstairs!" I replied back.

I abandoned my curious quest to find out more information about Nathan and locked my PC account as I stumbled downstairs in a daze. The sweet aroma of dinner was tickling my senses as I stepped onto the first landing.

"Charlotte," Nate greeted when he heard me coming downstairs. He was on the living room's couch, his legs propped up on the coffee table in front of him and a book was resting on his lap. He lazily turned a page.

The fact that he just called my name took me by surprise. "Nathan," I finally answered, giving him a small, nervous smile. "Thanks for the smoothies. Definitely cheered me up."

My heart fluttered and I felt a sudden burst of happiness that was portrayed through my expression. "It was no problem at all!" I said, grinning. "What're you reading?"

He closed the book and put it back on the small bookshelf next to the couch. "Something about engineering. That was the only thing I could understand," he said with a playful smirk and I laughed.

This felt right.

But I must admit the thought of it feeling right freaked me out.

"Dinner then?" he asked and I nodded cheerfully.

We walked together in the kitchen and started to talk like we did when we were walking Helios. It felt great though. But I made sure I didn't remind him of Jason or whatever the guy name was. "That's horrible," I frowned.

"Not really," he said. "Even though the cafeteria is rodent-infested the food tastes like it came out from a five-star hotel. So as long as I don't spend the entire morning on the toilet the next day, I'm fine with that."

I chuckled. "Gosh that's disgusting."

"But isn't it lucky, that your school blew up?"

From him, it sounded hilarious. "Oh, I don't even know," I laughed and he gave me a reluctant smile. "Lucky, since you could spend Christmas with your family," he said, motioning to my parents who were bickering about redecorating the house.

"Sorry to get in the way," he said, looking solemnly into my eyes. For a moment there, both of us were clearly aware of how intimate we were getting. Ever since that day, I didn't talk to him. That was the first 'normal' conversation we had.

And I admit it, I did felt lonely afterward.

In silence, I brought my attention back on my dinner plate. "Mom, pass me the gravy please?"

"Alright dear," she said, grateful that she had something to do to distract her away from dad even just for a second. I smiled and thanked her. "Well would you look at that. She didn't even care about her calorie count or whatever," he muttered.

"Go to hell," I spat.

"Fine, I'm bringing you with me though."

"Fuck you."

"Are you sure?"

Yeah, all intimacy was gone and we were back to fighting again. But for the first time since I've met him, I didn't mind.
