Wasted Years

The beginning of another school year; the time most students dread from the moment their holidays begin.

Natalie Bates was not most students.

It wasn't that Natalie enjoyed having to go to school; it was just that she preferred to be there with her friends than on holidays with her father and step-mother.

Natalie wasn't the most popular girl in school, far from it. She had only a select few friends who she had known since Kindergarten and they were all she needed.

Bo Lim; Natalie's very first friend. On the first day of Kindergarten, Natalie had accidentally spilt PVA glue on the girl sitting next to Bo. He found this hilarious and they had been inseparable ever since.

Kathleen Murphy; the girl Natalie had spilt the glue on. After Kathleen had purposely poured red cordial on Natalie as revenge, the two girls called a truce and became the best of friends.

Samantha Wilcox. Samantha changed schools in the middle of Kindergarten and was befriended by Bo, Kathleen and Natalie almost immediately.

Natalie wasn't shy, nor was she outgoing. She was simply herself and that couldn't be categorised.

At 18, Natalie had kissed a grand total of 5 boys and her longest relationship barely made two weeks. But none of this fazed Natalie; she was happy being by herself or with her friends.

Now, Natalie may have been one of the nicest people you could ever meet, but that doesn't mean that everyone liked her.

Introducing Stacey O'Malley and Kirri Roads.

Two people who hated Natalie the most.

However, Stacey and Kirri didn't hate Natalie for her personality or attitude, oh no, they hated Natalie simply because of somebody who liked her.

Trey Barker.

The resident bad boy of Gravina Hill Academy.

Trey's against-authority attitude and his undeniably good looks had girls throwing themselves at his feet.

Despite what you may be thinking, Trey wasn't one to date around. He knew that he could have any girl her wanted and that was what turned him away from them.

Well, almost any girl.

Natalie Bates was the only single girl at Gravina Hill who wasn't head over heals for Trey Barker.

And that was precisely why he wanted her.

For three years, Trey had tried his hardest to get Natalie to like him and now, in their final year of high school, he was more determined then ever before.

Trey wasn't sure why he was focused on Natalie. She wasn't "hot" as such, but she was beautiful. There was just something about her that had always caught his attention.

Now, Trey may have been infatuated with Natalie, but Natalie was never that fond of Trey. She didn't dislike him, she just didn't like him.

She wasn't open to change and accepting Trey into her life would be a big change, one she wasn't prepared for.

Natalie was very insecure, so Trey's attempts to get to know her seemed like nothing more than some stupid joke or prank one of his mates had most likely thought up. The fact that Trey had been trying for three years didn't register in Natalie's mind.

Natalie may have been a bright girl, but things like this went in one ear and out the other.

Boys weren't her specialty.

Natalie kept herself inside her comfort-zone and when put in a different or unfamiliar situation, her first instinct was to run away.

Trey had noticed this. He noticed a lot of things about Natalie. The way she would colour her nails in with a sharpie when she was bored in class. How she would close her eyes tightly if someone were speaking to loud around her, but never tell them to be quiet. The way she would unconsciously play with the hem of her shirt when she was nervous. How she would always try to keep everyone's attention away from herself. And most of all, how cute she looked when she bites the right corner of her bottom lip when she gets embarrassed.

Trey had learnt to read her emotions. He always knew how Natalie was feeling; her eyes gave it away. Her eyes were on of Trey's favourite things about Natalie.

It was safe to say Trey Barker was hopelessly in love with Natalie Bates. The question is; can he make her fall in love with him?

Well, you know what they say; good girls always fall for the bad boys.

So understand
Don't waste your time always
Searching for those wasted years
Face up...make your stand
And realise you're living in the golden years

["Wasted Years" - Iron Maiden]

Yes, another series. I will continue with my other two, but i'm not very inspired to write any more of those yet. I'm also sick so it might be a little hard for me to update, but fear not! School ends next week, so I'll have some extra time.

Rate and message, lovelies.

Thankyou
