50 Ways To Spend Your Christmas, Stuck With an Annoyingly Hot Emo Delinquent [23]

I'm torn between the two decision to make an epilogue or a sequel (no, this is not the last chapter don't worry. But it's coming to an end as Charlotte's December is coming to an end too). I guess I'll just have to see how things would go. Thanks so much for reading :D

24) Get tangled up in...

"Keira!" I snapped, feeling so frustrated at every thing that I might as well burst into tears. "Would you stop it?! I'm not in the mood right now."

I heard footsteps behind me and suddenly the fairy lights came to live, radiating bright colors. "I didn't know the Christmas tree this year would be a human."

I kept my mouth shut. Trust me, it wasn't an easy thing to do. I waited for a few seconds, standing rigid in the middle of the room until I heard the door to the kitchen swung close. "Keira..." I pleaded weakly. She rolled her eyes and made her way to switch off the lights.

She placed a hand on her waist. "Go talk to him," she ordered, pointing a finger towards the kitchen. I shook my head and continued to wriggle out of long string of lights. While the heat was very much welcomed...

...looking like someone who had crashed into a pile of fairy lights didn't.

"Maybe it's best this way," I said with a straight face, dumping the wires next to the huge Christmas tree my mom bought for half the price. Actually, all of the Christmas trees with half price were the big ones.

Let me rephrase that.

The gargantuan, odd-looking ones. This one actually curved a bit on the way to the top.

It was so tall it hit the ceiling. And when the man helped to carry it, a squirrel jumped off from the tree and landed on top of Keira's head. She let out a blood-curdling scream and decided to do what looked like some kind of a dance.

She sighed. "Maybe it's Ella who came on to him first, you know. Like those kind of weird, men-deprived whores."

The thing about Keira was that she could say stuff like that and not offend anyone...except maybe for a couple of priests. "You don't get it Keira. It's been barely a month," I said. "He's from a delinquent center. Got a ridiculously complicated past," I continued, trying to open the ornament boxes.

"What are the chances...I mean, to fall in love in merely a few weeks," I said, shrugging. But as I said that, I could feel a tug of something at my heart and I stopped trying to stab the box with the cutters.

For some reason my mother wrapped the box in two inch of cellotape.

Speaking of which, she was spending an awfully long time in the bakery. I checked the clock and wondered if she was okay. But knowing her, she probably strike up an hour-long conversation about different type of icings to a stranger she met at the bakery.

That was how she get most of her friends.

"And Nathan..." I said, biting on my bottom lip. "I don't think it's a good idea, Keira. I never been through this before. It's been crazy. I'm doing things that I didn't expect I would ever do. Ever."

"Bingo," Keira sang, a grin plastered across her face. "God only knows how the guy could pull you out of your shell, but I guess it's expected from someone who came from one of the toughest delinquent centres in the country."

"Why wouldn't you want to hear his side of the story, Lottie?" she continued, sitting down on the floor in a lotus position. She was trying to help me with the boxes too. Keyword: trying.

Good question.

Maybe I was a very sensitive person like everyone had told me. Maybe I just didn't want to get hurt. But whatever it was, for some reason, just looking at him made my chest hurt - the feeling was almost the same to the time when people were announcing the finals results were out.

Last year someone actually fainted because she had one C in her grades.

I told Keira about it and she rolled her eyes. "Did you know, Lottie," she said, rather softly this time. "When my parents met the first time, it was love at first sight."

Despite myself, the corner of my lips twitched. Keira saw it and stuck out her tongue at me, her hand was stabbing the other box with a pocket knife.

The knife broke.

"You are so close-minded," she said, laughing and I frowned. "I'm just saying," I replied. "I just don't believe in that. Doesn't mean I'm close-minded all the time."

"How did you parents met?" she asked.

"My dad rescued my mother from her impending doom of being starved to death."

Keira's eyes went wide as saucers. "Wow," she exclaimed. "That's amazing! Was she a part of a rescue squad or something?"

"Er, yeah," I said, hiding a smile. "Woah! She's really a nice woman isn't she?! What part of rescue team was she? Where was she dispatched at? What happened then?" Keira asked, unable to control her excitement.

"Oh no, she was going solo. At some park. She eventually got stuck in a tree and couldn't get down for trying to save a cat."

"Nathan!" Keira said excitedly as she walked into the kitchen. Nathan was silently munching on a cookie, his eyes looked up to her only when she said his name. "Mind if I hang around? Or should I shoot the craw?"

"I don't mind," he replied, turning his attention back to his cookie. As he was about to finish it off, he turned to Keira in mild curiosity. "I need a favor," he said emotionlessly, taking out a glossy, small red and white paper with snowflakes illustration.

"Oh hey!" Keira said, her face brightens. "I have that too. I thought attending a Christmas ball would be a blast," she said, swooning. "I'm going with a boy I met who helped me with my luggage when I arrived--" she stopped herself, her wide eyes going wider.

"Nice to see you finally get it," Nathan replied, smiling. "You're not angry at her then?" Keira asked, sounding hopeful even though the answer was there. "For not giving you a slightest chance?"

"Considering her lack of experience in the dating area," he said. "I don't see why I should in the first place. It's not her fault."

Keira beamed. "I'm going to try my best to make your last moments together très bien then, Mr. Bradley," she said, getting up and taking a cookie from a plate. "Thank you, Miss Newbury," Nathan said, shooting her a thankful look.

To be perfectly honest, Nathan didn't really like to do these kind of stuff. But he remembered how happy she looked when she saw the half-transformed ground floor. For some reason, he knew it wouldn't work out as well with Charlotte than he initially thought.

His eyes looked at the last cookie on the plate, feeling his appetite going out the window.

But like Keira said...

Last moments.
