Matthew Zachary.

There was something intimidating about him. Or charming. However you wanted to interpret it. But there was no mistaking that the tall figure with handsome, dark features who waltzed into the school every morning was him. Mostly because he carried a unique air of arrogance with him.

However that made sense.

Well to cut the story short, he was the kind of person you did not want to associate with much.

And there was me.

I had no idea how our worlds can combine in one rainy day. Maybe it was the panda. Maybe it was me who was so obsessed with the panda that life decided to screw with me just for the laughs. People told me I had a 5-year-old spirit inside of me.

Very disturbing, indeed.

When I got my allowance, I walked inside where in the next few minutes, I would meet a little, brutal boy who kicked my shin when I reached for the plush toy. He then wrenched it out of my hand and stuck out his tongue.

It was pathetic really, to fight with an 8-year-old boy. So I didn't.

"Hey kid."

It wasn't the panda, probably. Maybe it was those two significantly unimportant words. In that cold, big shop full of running kids, parents and teenagers, Matthew Zachary was there, snatching the panda away from him.

"Aren't you a boy? Buying this--" he tossed the plush toy in the air, "--toy would be such a humiliating thing when you get older...or funny," he said thoughtfully. Taking my hand, he placed the plush toy on it.

"Plus, she got it first."

Now you would thought that the boy would be intimidated too, but apparently I guess I was the only one who felt so because he stuck out his tongue again and angrily kicked Matthew's leg. "Ow! You little monste--"

"Matthew."

He looked at me, temporarily distracted. Well good, I didn't want him to throw the kid like a football across the shop.

"Thank you," I said, as I fiddled with the panda shyly. A boyish smile spread on his face as his brown eyes twinkled amusingly. "You know my name."

"We um...have French together," I said awkwardly, waving my hand around. I knew it was annoying to some, but I couldn't help it. I couldn't stop making hand gestures whenever I talked. "I'm Hannah. Hannah Miller."

"French huh? I could never get that class."

"Me neither," I said, rolling my eyes. He shoved his hand into his pocket and looked at me mischievously. "So Hannah, I did help you get that panda back."

"You did," I said, a bit confused.

"Any other thanks you can give me?" he said, raising his eyebrow slyly. I didn't know if he was joking or not. I just stared at him as if he grew into a leprechaun. "Look," I said promptly. "I am thankful, but to be honest people like you disgusts me."

Walking away, I realized what I just said.

And I had French with him.

A/N: Sorry the introduction is a bit...well, not really up-to-notch IMO. I can't think of any other way to start this story :P
