Nobody Told Me That I Would Be Learning To French Kiss HIM in French Class! [`o2]

It was a lovely day outside so Wendy Lee Harris and I went to have lunch outside for the day. But even so, her disbelieving look was starting to disturb me as I told her about what happened that day in the mall. "You bought a panda and fought with a kid? Why a panda?" she said finally.
I shot her a look. Wendy was cute and petite, her black hair braided and held by a pair of blue hair clips. Though, her dark brown eyes were looking at me like a hawk currently. "Hannah, I don't think you understand the situation you are in right now."
Wendy knew everything in school, apparently. Not just student gossips, but teachers too. And...well, it was really disturbing to hear which teachers were making out in the chemistry lab last year.
"You're right. I don't. So I lashed at the guy for a minute or two, it's not like it's the end of the world."
She looked at me exasperatedly. "I'm not sure if this one is true, but I heard that Matthew Zachary is a guy who likes to play around with a particular girl before throwing her away and moving on to the next. When you're aimed by him, you are basically...well, his."
The corner of my lip twitched into an upward smile. "I'm sure that's just an exaggeration."
She shrugged. "Believe in what you want to, but don't say I didn't warn you."
I laughed. Although it doesn't sound really like a normal person's laugh. It sounded like as if I was being strangled and for some weird reason, I was bursting into howls and howls of mad laughter.
Nothing would go wrong today in French class...well except for the occasional 'holy-crap-what-is-the-teacher-trying-to-say-to-me' thoughts. Chances were, the guy won't even remember me.
Why were my hands so cold?
I heard the chair being pulled behind me and someone sat down, setting his book on the table.
"Hannah Miller, wasn't it?"
I jumped. So hard that my knees actually hit under the table. I didn't know why I was being so apprehensive about this, but like I said. He was intimidating. Even though I couldn't see him, I could tell that a smug smile was plastered on his face as he saw my reaction.
Fuck my life.
"I see you weren't lying after all."
"You thought I was lying," I said, turning around. It was a statement, not a question. He shrugged and leaned back, a pen in his hand. "Better be safe than sorry."
"That or you just really have trust issues."
"Now, now, why would I want to trust someone who looks at a panda plush as if it was the Holy Grail? I was almost convinced that the thing was shooting out brilliant lights or whatever it was to attract your attention in the first place."
My cheeks tingled with heat but I ignored it. "So I bought a panda, big deal," I snapped. He just looked at me with those brown eyes. "In my defence, you were in there too," I said after a pause. He broke into laughter.
"In my defence," he mocked. "It was my cousin's birthday yesterday."
I didn't know what to say, so I turned back around and stared dead ahead as if my life was depending on it. But suddenly, I felt someone playing with the strands of my auburn hair. "Let me guess, you don't believe me."
"I don't know what to believe in actually," I said curtly. Well, that was true. Wendy's voice was poking me, nagging me, reminding me of what she said earlier. "And I'd appreciate it if you leave me alone."
"No," he replied promptly, sending shivers down my spine. But before I could make another remark, Mr. Curtis walked into the room looking larger than life itself as he said "bonjour à tous," merrily. At least I had a reason to not talk to Matthew.
But I had a feeling that this year would be a long year.
