I remembered the very doors that I walked through. The very doors of the Palm Woods. It was just a few months ago and I had landed an acting job, my dream finally come true. Despite my acting skills, I’m a very shy girl, but that soon changed when I met them. Yes, THE Big Time Rush. I had seen them on TV, heard them on the radio, but I never imagined meeting them in person, AND being their friends. And just last month, I had developed a crush on one of them… Logan Henderson. Ever since he started tutoring me in math, we started hanging a lot more than usual, without the guys sometimes. “I still don’t get it!” I screamed as I slammed my pencil down on the glass table. Another sunny day at the Palm Woods and I was stuck with a bunch of algebra homework. Luckily, Logan was helping me out, as usual. ::::::::::::::::
“Calm down, Kris, you’ll get it. It’s easy, you just…” and he went on to explaining the method. As soon as he was done, I got it down… a little bit, much better than before, that’s for sure.
“Why can’t you be the teacher instead?” I sighed and he chuckled. “I mean, I DO NOT do math. I’m more of a English and literature type of person. With Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe, all those kind of people!”
“See, this is why I’m your math tutor and you’re my English tutor.”
I laughed. “Yeah, you’re right.”
“Hey, you two lovebirds! How’s it hangin’?” Carlos said as he came up and put his arms around our shoulders. I gave him an odd look. He looked at me.
“What?”
“We’re fine, Carlos. Just fine,” Logan responded. Then he stood up. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go tutor James in biology right now. I’ll catch ya later, ‘kay?”
I nodded. “Sure.”
Carlos occupied his seat and gave me a goofy grin. Again, I gave him an odd look. “What?”
“Aren’t you ever gonna tell him?”
I sighed. “Nope.” Then I stood up, grabbed my books, and began to walk away. But, of course, he trailed behind me.
“Oh, c’mon. Everyone knows but him!”
“Yeah, a very specific reason, duh.”
“Just because you’re an actress doesn’t mean you can’t act like you don’t like him forever ya know.”
I turned around and faced him. “Yeah, I know… but Camille’s one of my good friends and I don’t want her to get mad at me and… and…”
“You don’t wanna ruin your friendship,” Kendall said coming from behind me.
I pointed up at him and faced Carlos. “Exactly.”
Carlos rolled his eyes. “Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that. It’s now or never, Kris.”
Just do it… c’mon. It’s not gonna kill ya. Ask him… ask him… “Logan!” I called out.
He turned around. “Oh, hey Kris.” He smiled and jogged up to me. “What’s up?”
“Um, well, I was wondering…” I stood up straighter and had a composed and calm look on my face, just as an actress should have when acting. “If you’d like to go see the fireworks show tonight with me.”
“Oh, uh, cool! Just, the two of us… right?”
“Yeah, if that’s alright with you.”
I think the smile on his face grew even bigger. “Yeah, yeah, that’s cool. Um, I’ll meet you here, around… six then?”
I nodded, for I really had the urge to scream out of joy and I didn’t want to seem like a freak or something. I waved good-bye to him and as soon as he turned the corner and was gone, I collapsed on the lobby’s couch and couldn’t stop giggling and smiling. Katie ran over to me and smiled.
“It’s official, you’ve lost your mind,” she said, referring to my little giggle fits.
James, Kendall, and Carlos popped out from the decorative plants with their plant hats on and smiled. They looked down at me and smiled.
So, I guess I had a date with Logan Henderson. I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the day.
::::::::::::::::
I was extremely nervous as I waited for Logan down in the lobby. Bitters gave me a look, as if he was impressed. Yes, even HE knew about my little crush on Logan. Then I heard four familiar voices and I saw Logan being harassed by his three best friends as to fixing his hair and clothes. I couldn’t help but giggle at the sight.
Logan tried to shoo them away when he first noticed me.
“Later you two…” the three of them said in a singsong voice and skipped away. I rolled my eyes and smiled.
“Hey,” he said.
“Hey,” I said.
A moment of silence.
“So… shall we go?” Logan asked, giving me his arm.
I gladly took it and linked it with my own. “Gladly.”
It was a warm night in L.A. compared to the cold breezy air of Maine. Don’t get me wrong, I love my old home state, but L.A. was more for me. I tried my best not to seem eager. Good thing I was an actress. But Carlos was right, I couldn’t act like this forever. The fireworks display wasn’t until nine, when it became really dark. Logan and I rode on a few rides and ate a few food and played a few games.
It was about fifteen minutes before the fireworks were going to start. Logan and I found a spot on the grass to sit on. We had been silent for awhile, which really isn’t like us. I don’t know why, but I’ve been getting an awkward vibe from him. Was it really this awkward that we were hanging out with each other? I mean, the two of us? We’ve hung out before, but now it feels… different.
“So, Kris… what’s up?” he asked after about five minutes of awkward silence.
“I’m… pretty good. How ‘bout you?”
“I’m pretty good, too.”
I bit my lip before saying, “Logan, thanks for coming here with me.”
“It’s not a problem. That’s what friends are for, right?”
“R-Right…” Friends… of course. I sighed. It’s now or never.
“Logan.”
“Kris.”
We said our names simultaneously and then stopped and looked at each other.
“You go first,” we said at the same time. Then we laughed. It happened again. “No, you go.” We laughed.
“Okay, I’ll go,” Logan said. “Um, uh, yeah… I dunno how to say this but… I… I kinda… really… like you? Like as more than a friend?”
I just stared at him, dumbfounded. “Kris?” He noticed this and stifled up a smile. “Well, um, sorry to make things awkward. I mean, if you still wanna be friends-”
“No!” I said while grabbing his arm. We looked deep into each other’s eyes. “I… I really like you, too, Logan. M-Maybe even…”
“Love?” he finished for me while I just nodded. He exhaled. “What a relief!”
I laughed a little. “Why?”
“Because, I thought you only liked me as a friend!”
“Really now? Huh. I thought you did, too.”
“Yeah, but EVERYONE knew I had a crush on you.”
“Yeah? Me too! But then again… I’m an actress and I kinda-sorta used my acting skills around you to seem like I only liked you as… a friend.”
He laughed and punched me in the arm playfully. A firework busted in the air, causing me to jump and I landed extremely close to Logan. He smiled and put his arm around me. I smiled back.
“I love you, Kris.”
“Love you, too, Logan.”
And we shared our first kiss together under the fireworks.
