Fire. Death. Betrayal.
It was a day like no other, flames licking at the sides of the Jade Manor, servants screaming and a small girl crying out for her parents.
"It's a dream," Armelia thought to herself through her tears as she was dragged through the halls by her butler, "Soon, I'll wake up, Mother and Father will be alive, Evlyn will hold me in her arms, singing a sweet lullaby to calm my fears, and... everything will be back to normal. Just another nightmare. That's all." But she wasn't waking up, and the more the flames blinded her, the more she was starting to realize the truth.
Her parents were dead, they weren't coming back.
Evlyn had disappeared, there was no telling if she would come back.
The beautiful home she grew up in was crumbling around her, but there was nothing to be done.
The only thing left to do was to get out alive.

Ciel Phantomhive was in his carriage, on his way to visit Armelia. Their wedding was set in two weeks, and Armelia's parents found it important that the two youngsters got to know each other.
Something didn't feel quite right, though.
As Sebastian pulled up to the estate, however, he saw his worst fear--his dear Armelia's home was on fire.
Ciel lept out of the carriage, his visible eye widened in horror at the flames that engulfed the manor.
"Armelia." he managed to choke out as Sebastian took his place at his side. Looking up at the stoic butler, Ciel glared slightly, his gaze wavering slightly in fear.
"Sebastian, findArmelia."
"I don't believe I need to, young master." the butler purred, pointing to the side of the home where a butler stumbled out from the servant's entrance, holding Armelia in his arms.
"Armelia!!" Ciel shouted, running towards his fiancee. The butler, James, looked up at him.
"I managed to save her, sir, but her parents..."
"It doesn't matter, as long as she's safe." Ciel's voice was a whisper as he tore Armelia from the butler's arms, cradling her as she cried.
"C-ciel, I..."
"Shhh... It's alright, I'll take care of you, Armelia. Everything will be alright."
That's when Armelia's world went black.

Armelia woke up in a dimly lit room, dressed in a small nightgown. Looking around, she realized this wasn't her room-- in fact, this room was way to gothic for her whole home, and that was when she remembered the fire. Tears filled her eyes and she brought her knees to her chest, sobbing silently. She wasn't alone long, though. A soft hand gently eased her into a pair of arms, and the person, whoever it was, rocked her back and forth. It took her a few minutes to realize this mysterious person was Ciel, and that this was the most tender thing he's ever done in all his life, or at least openly.
"My parents died in a fire too, you know..." Ciel said softly, his one visible eye lowering to stare at the silk sheets on the bed. Still cradling Armelia, he told her about how, on his birthday, he'd lost his parents and everything else important to him. The story only made Armelia cry harder, and she turned to face Ciel and clung to him, her arms around his neck. Ciel sighed.
"Sorry, I guess I'm not very good with girls."
"N-no, it's not that..." Armelia hid her face in the crook of his neck.
"It's just... I'm sorry. You've had it a lot worse than me. At least I have you..." Ciel couldn't help but smile, although it was weak.
"I'm not exactly the best person to lean on, I--"
"You're better than nothing, and nobody's perfect... well, minus that bloody butler of yours. Geez." Armelia and Ciel both laughed, but Armelia froze.
"You laughed..."
"I can say the same to you, Miss Gloom-and-Doom." Armelia sighed.
"What time is it?"
"Time for bed." Armelia jumped at the sound of Sebastian's voice, but Ciel seemed unaffected. Armelia bit her lip lightly, glancing up at Ciel as he stood.
"Please don't leave..." Armelia whimpered, clutching to Ciel's jacket. He paused, looking down at her.
"I-I'll have nightmares, and..." Armelia shivered.
"I think I'll be staying with Armelia tonight." Sebastian smirked.
"Not that way, idiot!! Besides, I can do as I please, she's my fiancee." Ciel said matter-of-factly.
"You'd still marry me, even after I've lost everything?"
"Don't be stupid." Ciel wrapped his arms around her and tightenedthem around her, "Of course I would, and I will."
"Would you prefer to stay here, or sleep in your room with Miss Armelia?" Sebastian said, ruining the little "moment" forming.
"My room." Ciel stated. Sebastian's smirk grew.
"As you wish, young master." Sebastian led the way to Ciel's room, Ciel carrying Armelia bridal style [0.o surprising...]. When they reached his room, he lay Armelia gently on the bed as Sebastian helped Ciel prepare for bed in a seperate room. When they came back, Ciel glanced at Armelia.
"You're dismissed, Sebastian... Armelia, I want you to close your eyes." Ciel commanded, covering his right eye with his hand as he walked to his bed where Armelia waited. She obeyed silently, making Ciel smile. Crawling into bed beside her, he wrapped his arms around Armelia, pulling her close as he lay them both down.
"You know about demons and contracts, right?"
"Yes.... Evlyn was..." Ciel nodded.
"Sebastian is, too. I made a contract with him..." and so, for the second time that day, Ciel told Armelia his story. In the end, as he held her in his arms, and she whispered sweet things to him, the two fell into a peaceful sleep.
