The single storey house is thought to be the best value for money. This is most likely the reason that this kind of house is far more common all over the world than any other kind of house. The great thing about this kind of house is that it's not limited to simply one style; it can be any size, shape or style. This is great for people who are very picky when it comes to their houses.
One of the deal breakers for the single level house is that it has fringe benefits for all those who live in it. One is the fact that there are no stairs that could endanger the older and younger family members. For another, having a single storey means that there is less space that uses up electricity, gas and other resources. What this signifies is cheaper bills for the homeowner. Living in a single level house also means less area that needs upkeep, so less effort in cleaning up.
In cases of disasters and emergency, it's also significantly easier for families to get out of harms way. Emergencies, such as fires and the like, are also much easier to control. Traditionally, the one storey house is a smaller kind of house. In recent times though, these houses have become bigger, wider and they occupy a larger block of land.
The single storey has a lot of variety. One of the most familiar is the bungalow. A bungalow is a mid-sized house that has a more casual air about it than most. Most bungalows are found sporting flat roofs in the larger suburban areas. Then you have the cottage. It's a much smaller house that usually sports 4 rooms. Most houses Pre World War 1 were cottages. These days though, the cottages tend to have more rooms and much larger spaces.
Another well known style is the villa, which used to be a family's country vacation house. The villa only started serving as the family's main house in late 19th century. Then you have the mansions, which used to be large widespread abodes. In the old days, mansions used to have just a single storey and were simply spread out onto the land. Nowadays they have more floors with just as wide spaces though.
Living in the single storey abode has its bad side too. Areas with dense population mean that there is less space for houses, especially those with yards. This will not bode well for people with larger families. These places would also have little to no yard room for all the things that the family might enjoy having around.
