Venom welled within Jasper Hale’s golden eyes as he stood outside the bedroom he shared with his wife, Alice Cullen. He pounded on the door, holding back his strength so as to not break it for he dared not anger her further.

He rested his forehead against the door, no longer having the will to continue his assault on the faultless mahogany. He refused to believe the words that had been uttered by his beloved, she was lying to him. She had to be.

“It’s what best,” she claimed so softly that his vampiric ears barely caught her words.

His breathing ceased as his lips hitched into a pained smile.

“Liar,” he shot back.

“You know my love for him is true,” she paused momentarily before working up the courage to say, “You can feel it. I know you can.”

Jasper lost it.

He tore the door off its hinges; his iron clad hold caused the doorknob to turn to dust. He refused to believe that the powerful love that had been radiating from his wife was directed towards the filthy mutt known as Seth Clearwater.

Her love was his, his alone.

It had been that way since 1948 and it would be that way for all eternity.

“You are MY WIFE,” roared Jasper, his emotions surging through Alice and all others within a five mile radius.

Alice grasped the vanity for support when Jasper’s emotions took hold of her. He was angry, bitter, confused but most of all he was hurt. Alice never meant to hurt Jasper. She would have stayed at his side for all eternity had she not had a vision.

Flashes of Jasper courting a foreign human had come to her in the wee hours of the morning. It was at that moment that she realized that she could no longer continue at his side. Their marriage had reached its expiration date.

Immediately thereafter she asked Jasper if he might accompany her on a hunting trip. He said yes believing that this was an attempt to have some private time but when he made a move to kiss her and she turned her face he knew something was wrong.

It was then that she informed Jasper of her attachment to Seth.

Jasper became enraged. His fury was so great that with one swift movement he began leveling the massive evergreens that surrounded them. Alice frantically begged for him to stop, but his fury deafened his ears to her pleas.

“Please don’t make this any harder than it already is,” Alice implored.

“Tell me, what happened to the love that you and I had?” questioned Jasper hoarsely.

“I still love you Jasper. I always will but our marriage has reached its end. We’ve helped each other grow and become better people but now it’s time that we go our separate ways and spend our time with those who were crafted just for us. Believe me when I say that we are better off this way. You’ll meet a human that compliments you flawlessly and will bring joy to your days.”

“I don’t want anyone else! I want you, I want you for all of eternity Alice not some human!” bellowed Jasper, begging her with his eyes to stay with him.

Her small hand caressed the right side of his side as she softly whispered, “You may not want her but you need her.”

His eyes twitched when he felt fear begin to radiate off of Alice’s figure. He opened his mouth to ask her what was wrong but when the strong scent of wet dog stormed his nasal cavity he knew exactly what was wrong.

He watched as Alice readied herself to run but before she had taken one step Jasper had already launched himself towards the door, towards Seth.

A pained groan escaped the young mans mouth when he was slammed against a wall. He fought to remain in control of his emotions, not wanting to phase within the Cullen home but as Jasper’s razor sharp teeth closed in on his neck he let his instincts take over.

Sandy colored fur exploded from Seth’s body as he made the transformation from man to wolf. The intensity of his phasing sent Jasper hurdling through his bedroom door, taking out a window in the far wall until he slammed against an ancient tree.

Vicious snarls escaped Jasper’s mouth as he pushed himself off of the tree and ran into the bedroom where the young wolf stood waiting for him, crouched protectively in front of Alice who looked like she would faint at any moment.

“Jasper control yourself,” begged Alice, her face holding a pained expression.

He shook his head in response. He wasn’t about to let some little boy take away the love of his existence. He was going to fight for Alice. He was going to kill Seth. Then, once Seth was dead, their lives would return to normal.

Seth was terrified of fighting Jasper.

Memories of the battle with the newborns raced into his mind. He remembered how Jasper seemed to float through the clearing, tearing limbs off as if they were nothing more than leaves on a tree. Jasper might be a ruthless fighter but no one, not even god almighty, was going to get in between his relationship with Alice.

With the exchanging of glares the battle began.

Handfuls of sandy fur floated through the bedroom as Jasper grabbed hold of Seth and launched him at a nearby wall, not caring that the room next door belonged to Rosalie and Emmett. The sound of bones cracking filled the space as Seth hit the ground.

Jasper smiled to himself, thinking that the fight was going to end a lot sooner than he anticipated but he was sorely mistaken. Seth gritted his razor sharp teeth as he stood up from the ground and pounced on the vampire.

His canines sunk all over the pale white flesh causing venom to drip freely down his fur. Jasper bucked his hips as he grabbed Seth by the shoulders and slammed Seth on the ground. The floor could no longer support their battle and it caved making them fall into the living room where the other Cullen’s were sitting in silence.

Alice jumped down the hole that had been created. She pulled at Jasper, begging him to stop his madness before anyone got hurt but he was so blinded by his fury that he grabbed her by the neck and sent her flying through the glass windows.

Eyes narrowed in anger when Jasper attacked Alice. Emmett could no longer control himself and forced his way into the battle. He grabbed Jasper who was pummeling Seth savagely and forced him to stay in his arms where he could do no harm.

“LET GO!” hissed Jasper as he fought to free himself.

Edward rushed from his seat beside his wife and child to aid Emmett in his plight. He grabbed Jasper’s arms to stop him from clawing at Emmett’s flesh, but like a child throwing a tantrum Jasper began using his legs.

His iron toed boots smashed Edward’s privates, sending the bronze haired vampire tumbling backwards. Next Jasper placed his arms on Emmett’s and forced all his weight down which sent Emmett crashing towards the ground.

Carlisle’s body tensed when he heard frantic screams coming from his house. He stepped out of his car, slammed the door quickly before racing through the front door. His eyes widened in horror when he saw the mess that had become of his family.

An unconscious Seth Clearwater lay on the ground while Jasper hovered above his figure, being held back by both Emmett and Edward while Alice begged for him to stop before he completely alienated himself from the Cullen family.

“ENOUGH!” bellowed Carlisle, causing everyone to freeze, except Jasper.

Jasper took the opportunity to try and bite Seth, to infect him with venom that would kill him slowly but he was stopped by Carlisle who shoved him out of the way. Jasper readied himself to fight back against whoever had pushed him but when he saw Carlisle’s eyes staring back at him he stopped.

“What is wrong with you?!” Carlisle inquired.

“He’s trying to take MY WIFE!” shouted Jasper, his voice cracking.

“I'm not your wife anymore,” interjected Alice. “I explained everything to you Jasper! I told you that someone’s going to come along for you so why won’t you let ME BE HAPPY?! Don’t I DESERVE TO BE HAPPY?!”

He was stunned by the sudden surge of fury that struck him. Never in his sixty years of matrimony had he felt Alice so angry. He tried to apologize for his actions but she wasn’t hearing any of them. Why would she?

Jasper sought help from the others in the room but no one came to his aid for he had mistreated them. So he stood there in silence, his fists balled up at his sides while he wracked his mind for the right thing to say to make everything just go away.

But it was no use for the damage had been done and regardless of what he said or did his future was sealed and his future was no longer among the Cullen Clan that he had to come to love that had taught him that he was strong enough to resist human blood.

“I'm so sorry,” he whispered.

Alice simply glared. She walked towards his slowly, letting her anger cripple him. When Alice reached him she slipped the wedding band that he had given her all those years ago off her finger and let it fall to the floor.

It was over.
