It was one of those days you wish it was over before it even begins. My name is Lily, and I’m just your average seventeen year old. Today was the first day back at school, another day where I just wanted to disappear.

I’m not one of those popular girls, you know the ones; they’re everywhere. I actually used to be friends with them, but real soon they hated me for whatever reason and “kicked me out” of the group. They didn’t have to say it. Their actions were way louder than their words.

So here I am, one of the many misfits in high school. At least I have some friends, and decent ones at that. Today is just another Monday, and I couldn’t wait to walk out of this death trap.

I stepped into the halls and looked for my best friend Bella. When I spotted her I smiled and waved and I ran over to her.

“Hey, what’s up?” I greeted and she smiled in return.

“Same old, same old. So…do you still….” She trailed off.

“Yes Bella, I still like him.” I sighed as she grinned like an idiot.

“Oh shut up, it’s not like I even have a chance.” I grumbled.

“Look! He’s coming!” She giggled and I sneaked a glance.

Sure enough, there he was. He had half the school drooling over him and I was in love with him. I still can’t believe I actually fell for that kind of guy. I’ve been trying to get over him since the moment I started to like him. But I just can’t convince myself. Did I mention his name? I get so wrapped up in him I forget about the details. His name is Adam.

As he passed every girl smiled and said his name, yet for a split second, it looked as though he was staring in my direction.

“Did you see that he—”

“Glanced at me for half a second, whoop dee doo!” I spat with sarcasm.

“Oh, don’t act like you’re not thrilled!” Bella smiled and I couldn’t help but return it.

Yup, so I’m that pitiful girl who falls for the popular boy. The girl who has no chance before the love even begins. Yet I can’t help but me madly in love with him.

The bell rings and I wave goodbye to Bella.

“Bye!” She hollers and she starts to go to her first period class. We unfortunately have a different first period.

I sigh and head off to my class. As I step in I notice on the overhead there is a seating chart. Great, I think as I look for my name. I follow my finger and see I’m in the back. Maybe this won’t be too terrible.

I start walk to my seat and hold back a gasp as I realized who sits next to me. You guessed it. Adam! I smile and happily skip to my seat.

Right as the bell was ringing he stepped in and took the seat next to mine.

“Hey,” He said with a smile that…wow, I can’t even describe it.

“Hey,” I return and take out my things for class. “This is going to be a snore, first days are always intros, yet I can’t say I’m complaining.”

He laughed, “Yeah, it’s a great time to pull out your jacket and chill out.”

I was going to continue this wonderful conversation when the teacher started blabbing on. Ugh! Way to ruin my moment! I thought with irritation.

“Uh, miss, I need to use the bathroom.” Some popular girl asked in that fake voice. The teacher started to dismiss her when I bumped Adam on the shoulder.

“Uh, miss, I need to use the bathroom so I can remove all of the helium from my body.” I mocked her in a whisper to Adam. He and I burst out laughing and everyone stared at us. We couldn’t help ourselves. The teacher glared at us and I noticed all the girls were glaring at me as well. We finally got ourselves to come down.

“Miss Harper, is there something you would like to share with the class?” The teacher stared me down.

“No ma’am.” I looked down at my desk.

“How about you, Mr. Downey?”

“No ma’am.” He answered and gave me a small smirk.

“Very well then.” The teacher turned and continued with the lesson.

“That was some funny stuff,” He smiled at me, “I think I’m going to like this class.”

My heart was filled with unexplainable joy as I returned the smile. Him and I talked the entire time. Unfortunately, class was over in a blink.

“Alright, see you later.” He waved goodbye to me. I grinned to myself and ran to tell Bella. She was not going to believe this.
