Did you ever ask yourself where skateboarding comes from? The answer is simple. From surfing! In the 50s, the surfers from California had the idea of surfing the streets. So they took their boards to the streets. That is how skateboarding was born.
The first skateboards were primitive boards with roller skates fixed to it. No kind of high tech like on the boards nowadays. The first skateboarding event was held in Del Mar, California at the Ocean Festival. The Ollie Pop was the first invented skateboard trick. It is reported to be invented in 1978. The ollie is still one of the most basic tricks in skateboarding. The skateboarder is slamming the foot on the tail end of his skateboard to lift the board and the skateboarder into the air.
Tony Hawk became the best skateboarder of the world at the age of sixteen. He is probably still the best known skater. Skateboarding is still changing and improving. The skateboarders skills are getting better and better as you can see in every skateboarding video nowadays. Skateboarding is a great sport. It involves many kind of maneuvers such as grinds, jumps, flips or grabs.
Try it and you will love it!
