Unsure of what to do with a CD storage case. I'm sure that you have more than one DVD or CD laying around your home or office. With that having been said, the purpose of CD storage cases should now be much more clear. As we continue to depend on these discs for data storage, the more we are going to need to protect them, organize them and keep them accessible with as little difficulty as possible.
The biggest downfall of DVD's, CD's and all other optical discs is that their reading surface is prone to damage. Once the surface develops blemishes, the ability to playback or read the disc is greatly diminished and may be completely impossible. It can be as little damage as a light scratch or even a little abrasion that looks like haze, and the disc will be permanently damaged and the data, music or movies on it will be unrecoverable and lost forever. It's for that reason that protecting your discs becomes and important consideration for just about any home or business.
If you are the type who would want to take your CD collection with you whenever you travel, placing them in appropriate CD storage cases is important. These are also ideal if you keep your CDs in your car for some music while you travel.
The most common form of cases are that hard plastic variety that is named that “Jewel Case.” These are the containers that your DVD movies come in and despite them being different sizes and shapes, the containers that CD music comes in are also called “Jewel Cases.” These are great if you have a lot of room or a rack in your home or office and want to keep them organized and easy to get to or browse through. DVD rack's are typically designed for this style case almost exclusively and are perfect as long as you don't need to take your discs on the go.
There is also something intermediate like the portable CD storage cases that can hold up to 20 CDs. One example would be the Discgear Discus. It has a high-impact rubber base, securing your CDs inside. Because it includes a wrist-strap, you can carry it anywhere with you.
Another type is the CD wallet. If you open this type of CD storage case, you may be able to flip the transparent CD sleeves or pockets where the CDs are placed, much like flipping through the pages of a book. With this, you not only store and protect your CDs from damage; you can also easily arrange them. The price of this type of CD storage cases depends on the material used to make the item. It can come in nylon, synthetic leather or original leather. This is a worthwhile investment; and it is also stylish.
When choosing a CD wallet, find one that can carry the number of CDs you want to place in them. Other people make the mistake of just inserting the CDs in between pockets because is not enough space – this can actually damage the CD. Also, make sure that the pockets or sleeves are made of good quality plastic and cloth lining that would protect your CDs from dust and small stones that can scratch your CD. Check that the zipper is sewn nicely in the covers because sometimes it is the first to come off. The cover of the bag must be able to protect the CDs from snow or rain. It should also be durable enough to resist impact.
