Darren had started to get closer and closer to Rumania. Now he’d parked the car outside a hotel in Krakow. He’d rent a room for one night. It was cheap. Only 10euro for the room. He didn’t have any need to pay for breakfast really. He got down by the desk, took out the map he’d taken from his family home. He marked the way he’d been going since yesterday.

“Then if I start from here early tomorrow morning I should be in Bratislava tomorrow night. Then I continue to Budapest the next day… and finally reach Constanta the day after.” He thought seriously. He hoped he would have enough money for fuel and rooms to fix three days. Else he would do some pick pocketing to get enough. He sighed and walked over to the bed, laid down. It didn’t feel right to sleep alone… he missed James who usually cuddled up against his chest. He missed to play with his hair… he missed the whole him. He sighed again, soon fell asleep by pure tiredness.

The car had been driven trough Poland since the dawn. Darren hadn’t stopped a single time. He had his mind set at his destination… and that one was Constanta, Rumania. And Voltaire… who he hoped would be somewhere there. He gritted his teeth a bit, pressed the gas pedal a bit more, and increased the speed. It would take a while for him to reach Bratislava. Since it’s right at the border between Slovakia and Austria. He would have to drive through the whole Slovakia before he reached it.

“Good that there’s not really a large country to drive through…” he thought as he passed the sign where it said ‘Slovakia border 20km’.

“I start getting close…” he had thought a lot about what would happen when he finally found Voltaire. If he knew his uncle right he would have something up his sleeve for him to deal with. What on the other hand he didn’t know. But since he has a lot of other vampires under him he could count with to run into some of them… or maybe all. In any case he would have to stay alert about everything. Especially at night. It wasn’t long until the next full moon, he sighed deeply when he thought about James’s cute face when he had the wolf ears and tail out in the moon light.

“James… please be all right!” he thought, pressed harder at the gas pedal so it drove even faster against the next destination, when suddenly… the car slowed down. Some seconds later it stopped.

“Crap!” he said and stepped out from the car, walked to the engine hoods to check. It wasn’t the fuel since he’d filled the car before he took off. He opened the hood and checked around. Soon he saw that the battery had a crack in it and the battery acid had spread itself over the engine. He sighed deeply. He would need a new engine for this to get fixed.

“Then how to do?” he mumbled to himself as he walked back and forth, mumbled some irritated words and so many curses that it should be illegal to say it out loud. Most of them were on Germaine. Suddenly he notice that another car stopped beside his destroyed car. He looked over there. It was a clear red car with black tires. Also it was a cab car. Inside it there sat three girls. Two of them with long hair, and the last with short, one with blonde hair who sat in the back seat. The second with long brown hair in a pony tail and sunglasses, also in the backseat. And the last, the one who drove with axel short black hair. They all looked at him.

“Do you need a ride?” the blonde one asked with a Poland accent. He sighed mentally, snatched his shoulders a bit. He needed a ride… if he would run it would get too much attention. He nodded a bit and walked over to the car.

“If you don’t mind.” he said, showed his eyes a little to them. He spotted them blush. The black haired driver did a gesture to the passenger seat behind her and nodded. He opened the door and sat down. He didn’t care about to put on the safety belt.

“So where are you going?” the brown haired girl asked and looked at him from between the passenger seat and the driver seat.

Slovakia, Bratislava…” he replied. Luckily these three also were going there so he could get a ride the whole way. If he paid for a fuel tank, which wasn’t any problem. They shit chatted a bit during the whole drive, but they’d stopped the car in a small town in Slovakia for to take a rest for the night. As the gentleman he is he paid for the girls’ room too. Once again a really cheap hotel so it didn’t really bother him. He had an own room so he could continue with to figure out some plan for to rescue James. Well first of all he needs to figure out where in Constanta Voltaire can keep him. Then after that he would figure out some plan to save him. But the first thing he did when he entered his hotel room was to enter the internet at the hotel computer, and searched for ‘Vampire hunters – Germany’. He was looking for a photo and as much info as possible on Voltaire. He found a lot of info about the local vampire hunters during the 1700s, but not the ones he was looking for. He typed a new search.

Germany, 1700, Kay family…” he said as typing. He got surprised about the result number… 12000.

“Wow… well now I’ll have something to do the whole night…” he thought and looked through every hit. He soon found a page all about the Kay family and vampirism. It was possible to search on persons in the family. But he had to search the full name… Voltaire wasn’t enough. He leaned back in the desk chair, starred up in the ceiling as he tried to remember his full name.

“Hmm… the whole name… Voltaire Something Kay…” he mumbled, scratched his head hard as he tried to remember it. It took a couple of minutes, but then he snapped his fingers, typed.

“Voltaire Johan Kay.” he said and pressed ‘enter’. He felt the hopes rise as he read through all the information. It all seemed to be exact. Sure it was mostly about his work and what he’d accomplished during the time he’d been a vampire hunter. He pressed the print button and waited for the info to get down on paper in the computer printer. It was slow, but after a couple of minutes he held it in his hand and read through it again. Then he searched for pictures at him at the same page. The only pictures he got were some old drawings at him and the two team mates he had in his work, also a couple of face drawings on him. The rest of the night he continued to print info and soon he’d filled a whole map with information and pictures of Voltaire and the rest of the family, and also some about the vampirism in Germany during the 1700s.

He sat down in the passenger seat in the car together with the girls again. They also seemed to be morning persons when it came to trips. The black haired girl started the car and drove away against Bratislava with full speed. He held the file close to him in a tight grip the whole time. He didn’t want to let it out of sight. In Bratislava he would look for a library to get more info, he needed all he could get. He looked up in the sky, it was grey. It wouldn’t rain but there was no sun today, yet he kept his sunglasses on. He didn’t want them to see his eyes… they could sorta hypnotize them or something. It happens often. He sighed and looked out over the surroundings, they were driving through a forest for the moment. The girls had been talking the whole time from the hotel but Darren had his mind at other places. He sighed, started to think about James and Voltaire again. He remembered James’s pained, unconscious face, felt the anger boil up inside of him again. He soon saw how the rain started to fall down over the car ceiling. The sound calmed him down some, he closed his eyes and tried to relax. He’d always liked the rain, it had always seemed calming for him. He vanished into thoughts about the latest months, smiling really weak. Soon it looked like he actually had fallen asleep. He lost the sense of time after a short while, but blinked as suddenly the girls screamed and stopped the car extremely fast. He had just managed to grab the front of the car to be able to catch his balance again.

“What the hell?!” he shouted both angry and surprised and looking at the black haired girl. She didn’t reply, only pointing forward through the window screen. He hummed and blinked confused, looked out through the screen. He gasped with wide eyes. In front of him was a huge wolf growling and roaring. It had gritted teeth, an arched back and also its claws were digging down in the ground. Its eyes were shining red of anger.

“What is this…? Is it…?” he thought chocked. No it couldn’t be. It couldn’t be him! But it was so alike when he saw James in his wolf shape before. That brown fur, he would recognize that everywhere. But it couldn’t be… the werewolf he knew so well would never do this!

The girls crouched up in the car, seemed to want to hide from the wolf. Darren sighed, looked at them.

“Don’t worry. I’ll chase it away…” he was about to open the car door when the black haired girl grabbed his arm. He looked over his shoulder at her terrified face.

“Don’t! It’s huge! It could kill you!” she said worried with tears in her eyes. He sighed. They sure didn’t know anything… poor humans.

“Don’t worry. I’m a hunter.” He said and opened the door, quickly moved out and closed it. He did a sign to the girl to drive away some, to not be in the way. He heard the engine start and it drove backward in an incredible speed, made the wolf roar loud of anger. It didn’t really seem scared… more of pissed.

“It can’t be him… it can’t!” he thought, had a grip of his gun inside of his coat. Suddenly the wolf burst against him and attacked. He blinked and avoided as good as he could, though he got a scratch on his leg as jumping away. He landed on his knee, covering it with his hand in a bit pained face. But soon the wound had healed and he quickly got up on his feet again to watch the angered wolf in the eyes only some inch away from his face. Why didn’t it attack when he was off guard? He saw it shook its head wildly, shacking as moving slightly backward.

“What…?” he thought, keeping his guard up.

“What am I doing? Why am I attacking Darren? Why can’t I stop!?” he couldn’t stop growling and roaring. James knew something was completely wrong with him… and Voltaire was responsible for it. He knew it. He wanted to kill Darren more than anything. That he’s using him is probably just the most painful way. And the most enjoying for Voltaire. Suddenly he burst against the vampire again, managed to bite his shoulder and chest, hearing the man he loved scream of pain. He blinked, gasped mentally and quickly moved away, leaving a thick trail of vampire blood after him, feeling the taste water in his mouth. He looked at the pained man who laid half down on the ground, had his shoulders and head against a tree. He had moved his hand up over the worst bites over his shoulders, closest to his heart and lung. He panted loudly and heavily, seemed to try to make himself heal faster than he already did. I shook my head again and stopped myself from moving.

“What are you doing, servant?! Kill him!!” the voice of Voltaire shouted inside my head. He crouched backward, trying to force his control back.

“No…! I can’t…” he thought, gritting his teeth hardly. He really couldn’t be able to kill his own true love… he would never be able to!

“KILL HIM!!!!” Voltaire demanded in a pissed voice. He roared loudly.

“NO!!!” he thought, rushed off in his incredible speed, getting as far away from the vampire as possible.

Darren looked confused after the wolf, had his eyes half open as forcing himself sitting up.

“What was that…?” he thought, blinked weakly as the girls’ car drove up against him, stopping in front of him. The girls rushed out with a first aid kit to him.

“Oh my God! Are you stupid or not!?” the blonde shouted both angry and worried. The black haired opened the kit and started to clean the half healed wounds. He closed his eyes in stinging pain as she cleaned a deep fang wound.

“Stop whining. It’s your own fault for trying to play the hero…” one of them said irritated. He sighed some irritated and starred up in the sky. It couldn’t have been James. But how it acted around him… and how it shook its head as attacking him. It was him. It must have been. He looked down.

“Fuck…” he mumbled really low. He didn’t bother about the girls’ weird and confused looks at him. Right now all he wanted was to follow James. He got bandaged and helped up by the girls and taken back to the car. They decided to take another route than through the forest now. Darren didn’t want that but since the girls are just usual humans they can die. So he didn’t complain about this and just sat quiet, held his hand over the wounds. After a while they had entered Bratislava. Seemed like the forest back there wasn’t especially far away from the capital city. The car stopped outside a hotel they’d rented a room at, stepped out with Darren soon after. He made sure to thank them politely for the ride and the help, even paid them for it. Then straight after he went looking for a hotel more in his budget. Finally he was at his last stop against Constanta. And soon he would face Voltaire… hopefully for the last time. And get James out from there… he gritted his teeth and clenched his fists hard.

“Voltaire…!” he growled really low as walking.

“Make sure to take advantage of these closest days… because they’ll be your last!”
