It was 6.30pm and Riley was returning home after the interview. She still did not know if she would be accepted as they told her that they would call her tomorrow, but she felt that she had done well. Her knowledge on films and books had impressed the owners but they could not tell her today. They still had others to interview.
Her walk to home seemed to take an eternity. Her backpack was heavy from the books she was carrying to start studying and her legs were aching. It was not normal for her.
She was dynamic and even after a hard day she usually still had some energy to spare for the night, but the events of the last months were leaving their mark.
She was stressed and besides moving and going to a new school she was also going to start a job. At last, after turning the next corner she could see her flat.
Riley dragged her legs up the front steps and slipped the keys in the lock.

"I'm home!" she cried, and slammed herself on the sofa.
"You seem tired," said Maria. Maria was the nanny she had hired to look after Mark. She was a few years older than she was and although she was inexperienced, Riley had to hire her since she was to only one capable in making Mark stop crying.
"Do you want me to fix you something to eat, Riley?"
"No thanks. I am not hungry. Did you have any problems with Mark? How did he go at the nursery? "Riley asked Maria.
"He was an angel. At first he started crying but than after seeing all the others playing, he wanted to join. His teacher said that he was good. Do not worry about him. How was your day?"

Riley smiled as she imagined Mark at his first day at the nursery. She wished she was there to take some pictures but the nursery opened at 9.15am and at the time, she would be at school.
Maria was her salvation. She had offered her to take Mark to the nursery. She would come before Riley left for school, than go for him when he finished and take him home until Sam arrives from school and now maybe after work.
"Domino High is fantastic. The teachers are quite good although they assign too much homework and the library left me speechless. I also made some friends. I am sorry for coming late but I had to go to a job interview and I still do not have a mobile phone. I will try to buy one tomorrow. Thanks Maria for your work. Mark isn't very good but with you he is calm, I really dont know how you manage! "Riley told Maria.

"A six months old boy is not an easy task to handle and at your age I would not have taken the responsibility on my own. You are hardworking and I am sure you will succeed so do not worry. If you need some help always, call me, at any time and everyday. If you do not need me any more I will go home," said Maria.
"Thanks Maria see you tomorrow. Goodnight!"
"Goodnight Riley." Maria left Riley alone.
After Maria's departure Riley opened her backpack and took out the books she needed for her study but before studying I'm gonna eat something since I'm famished she told herself. Eating was a good idea since it gave her the energy to study.
At 9.30 pm, she was ready and so she decided to go upstairs and sleep. Riley went and tucked in Mark who was sleeping peacefully, checked that the baby phone was switched on, changed into her pyjamas and went straight to bed.

The first week of school passed rather quickly. Riley was accepted to work and the job was of her liking. Mark was being good and although for most of the nights she had to wake up, she was doing well at school and at work.
Her new friends were fantastic. She had formed a special bond with Bakura since he would always be the one with her during lunch in the library doing their homework. Riley had to do her homework at school or at home, she would not find the time to do it. Joey, Duke, Tea and the others always asked her to join them for a stroll before going home but every time she had to refuse. Riley did not like lying to her friends about her work but she could not tell them the truth or they would look down on her.
Mark was her secret and only the school stuff knew the truth on her situation.

Fast Forward to November:
"Huff! Today it is raining again. It's been already a week of non-stop rain and I'm getting fed up! "Riley exclaimed to Maria while entering the kitchen for some breakfast before going to school.
"At Domino we do not get a lot of rain but when it does it will not stop very easily. I've done some scrambled eggs if you want. "Maria explained.
"Thanks I really need to start eating a proper breakfast. A cup of coffee isn't enough although it keeps me going. "Riely took the eggs, some buttered toast, and after playing a bit with Mark, she went to school.
Rain slowed her down so she arrived just on time. Her backpack was drenched as the umbrella was not big enough to cover it all so as she entered the block of building she ran full speed to her locker to take out all the books from the bag so that if they were not wet until than, they wouldn't get wet. Fortunately, only her notes file was severely wet but she was not worried as she had a copy of all the stuff at home.

"Good morning sunshine!" Some one exclaimed from behind her. It was Duke; he was the only one who could call her sunshine when she was in a rush with her usually neat hair, all over the place and wearing wet socks and tights.
"Morning Duke". She responded without turning to face him. She was still trying to hang her bag in the locker but without any luck.
"Need any help?" offered Duke.
"I'm fine" Riley replied as she finally succeeded with the task. Before closing the locker she took out a pair of new socks to change the wet ones she was wearing if did not want to be getting a cold. She slammed the locker door and turned around to face Duke who was joined by Tea and Yugi.
"All heading to class?" Riley asked them.
"Yes" Tea replied.
"Can you take my books to class so that I can go and change out of these before getting a cold?" Riley pointed to her shoes and before finishing her sentence, Duke was already taking the books from her hand.
"Thanks Duke for the favour, I owe you one," and she left to go to the girls restroom.
After changing she had only a few minutes left before class starts. Riley ran down the corridor but accidentally bumped into someone and made the person fall on his butt.
...
"Hey look where you are going!" the person shouted while getting up and started picking up their stuff.
"I'm sorry but I'm late for class!" Riley explained and kneeled down to help the boy who was in front of her to pick up his things.
"Take, these are yours & sorry again" as she gave him his things, Riley noticed who the boy was. His azure eyes were still impressed in her mind from their first meeting on the first day of the scholastic year.
Kaiba as many called him when refering to him was in most of her classes but from their first day she had not talked to him and he neither talked to her. She now sat with the gang and it seemed that they were not friends.
Kaiba took his books and went to his class without another word. As Riley continued her way to class, she found a strange necklace. It had a card like locket but she could not open it to see to whom it belonged, so she put it away in her pocket and decided to check it later.
