“Hey Loke-chan!” The young girl turned around to face a grinning Naruto. She put away the kunai she was training with.
“Hey Naruto-kun, what’s up?” She asked him kindly.
“Kiba and Shino wanted me to tell you they are meeting at the west training grounds tonight.” He grinned broadly and waited for her reaction.
“Oh, ok, thanks Naruto.” He ran down the hill and out of sight. Lokelani raised an eyebrow. There was no way they changed training grounds according to their sensei. Kurenai loved the eastern training grounds best, so why were they switching? She huffed and decided she would find out soon enough.
She finished her solo training and sun was getting low in the sky. Time for even more training with her team.
“Kyuu!” Lokelani felt a slight weight push against her shoulder. It was her dragon Fang.
“Where have you been silly? Deciding to be small for now aye?” She stroked his black scales, making him rub his head against her hand. She giggled and continued on. The lights in the village were being lit up, looking like fireflies in the setting sun. The sounds of people closing up the shops for the night reached her ears.
“It looks like we will have to hightail it eh Fang?” Lokelani stroked her companion once more before he flew down and enlarged to carry her.
She sat on his back as he spread his wings and pushed himself into the air. Lokelani held fast to one of the ridges on Fang’s back as they sped through the sky. Above the earth, the lights twinkled like the stars below Fang’s claws. He floated for a few moments and then landed in the gates of the western training grounds. Lokelani dismounted and looked around.
The western grounds were all woods, but she couldn’t see anyone around.
“Hello? Kiba! Shino! Hinata!” She called out, but to no answer. She knew something seemed fishy to begin with. Lokelani got smacked in the back. She could hear panting and the feeling of paws on her back.
“Hey Akamaru.” The dog stepped back and let the girl get up to brush herself off. He had grown over the years, but he was still little Akamaru to her. He woofed at her.
“Where are the others Akamaru?” She asked them. Fang shrunk once more and occupied the space on her shoulder. Akamaru barked and bounded off into the trees. Lokelani followed him, watching his tail wag so as not to lose him. He would get far ahead and then wait for her to catch up before starting out again. He was leading her somewhere. Finally he stopped in front of a waterfall and sat down.
Fang puffed out some smoke from his nostrils.
“Hey Loke-chan! We are back here!” Kiba’s voice echoed from behind the waterfall.
“Great, you coming boy?” Fang nodded and Akamaru was already in the water. Lokelani was a great swimmer, but she didn’t necessarily love the water. She stripped down to her underwear and placed her clothes in a tree so she could find them later. Her kunai stayed strapped to her leg as she jumped into the water. It was cool and refreshing against her hot skin. Akamaru had already gone under and disappeared.
“Come on Fang!” Lokelani held her breath and dove under the water. Her hair flew around her body as she swam towards the waterfall. There was a small hole below one of the rocks which she swam through followed by Fang and Akamaru.
She surfaced and looked around. The reflection of the water on the cave walls made a beautiful blue glow.
“Back here!” She heard Kiba yell farther in the cave. Lokelani pulled herself out of the water carefully and followed the small tunnel downwards. She could see the other side. It led to a clearing of flowers and trees. The moon was shining beautifully over the scene making everything glow. Sitting in the clearing was Kiba. No one else was around and there was no sign of their team.
“Kiba? Where is everyone else?” Lokelani asked. Kiba beckoned her over to sit next to him. She complied, but still didn’t understand.
“Believe it or not, Shino told me about this place.” He commented, but stopped her from speaking as a thousand fireflies came from the trees. She was in awe as they lit up all around her.
“He said it might help.” Kiba continued. Lokelani was about to turn and ask him what he needed help with when a soft pair of lips collided with her own. For a moment her eyes widened in shock, but then her eyes fluttered closed and she began to accept the kiss. It was gentle and careful, but an edge was added with a gruff push. Air suddenly became a necessity and they broke apart. Kiba grinned widely at her and Akamaru woofed.
“Love you too Kiba.” Lokelani grinned and continued their watch of the fireflies until they fell asleep in each others arms.
