On a visit to Johannesburg, it is important to know the best means to tour the city. Sights and sounds to be explored are innumerable in the city but can only be enjoyed if accessed with peace. In order to avoid roaming around in the city, confused or loosing ways every now and then, it is important to understand road travel in the city. To get there however, cheap flights to Johannesburgare available from a number of luxury liners. Developments for FIFA World Cup 2010 have even brought OR Tambo International Airport, Airbus A380 compatibility.

Bus:

City buses, blue in color, can be seen running in every corner city, up and down in almost every street. However, they are not very safe thus should not be the choice over Metrobus or Rea Vaya systems. Both the systems provide safe, comfortable and luxurious tours around the city of Johannesburg, Metrobus runs to rather limited routes though. Rea Vaya is the best choice if traveling through bus in Johannesburg as they are very affordable. They have designated lanes and stop every 500 meters. From their stops, smaller buses and taxis are easily available to transport passengers to desired destinations.

Minibuses also run in the city of Johannesburg but are kept away from the better off suburbs of the city. Although these are in much better conditions than minibuses seen in most parts of Africa, they are not suitable for western travelers. They use signs to converse regarding ways and destinations which are known only to locals and seem rather weird to foreigners. Secondly they often reply in the affirmative if asked about a certain destination, just for money even if they do not have to go there. Consequently, the travelers are left stranded.

Taxi:

To travel around Johannesburg in a taxi, is not a very bad idea. Taxis in Johannesburg do not loaf about in the city in search of passengers but they rather have to be called. Prices are often fixed so it is advised to call a number of companies and call a taxi whose prices are agreeable. Roses and Maxi operate throughout the city, Magibus can be a bit expensive but a good choice, and Elias is popular for its friendly drivers while Airport Link is only for transfers to the airport. SA and Rixi are also reliable companies.

Car:

Considered to be the best way of touring Johannesburg, car rentals are highly recommended. It should be the first choice of every visitor to the city. Car rental companies have their offices at the airports all over South Africa hence; a car can be rented as soon as Johannesburg flights land on OR Tambo International Airport. With a reliable map of Johannesburg in hand and car on the left-hand side of the road, the city can be best toured. Hertz is the most popular company while Avis, ResQ and Pace Car Rental are amongst the most popular ones. Land Rovers can ease traveling into the wilderness while campervans ease accommodation alongside travel. Saloons offer a comfortable ride but the city’s traffic jams can be slightly hectic.

Modes of transport can be selected according to the needs of the trip and personal requirements. Before boarding on flights to Johannesburg, travelers should know what kind of trip they wish to make and what kind of transportation will suit them and their budget the best. With a nice planning, a Johannesburg trip will be highly delightful
