She's Got The Devil In Her Heart Special

Why a special you ask? Because I wrote up two perfectly good quizzes that I thot were well written and ready to go up, left them for two weeks and came back to find them missing! Missing! only to me would this happen, that five pages of text would mysertiously disappear from my computer. Argh... hence the special, because I have to put something out, poor Katie has languished too long, forgotten in the back of my creative headquarters. Katie: Damn straight! I need some action! Me: calm those hormones down o

It was August 30 and high school was just beginning for freshman Katie OConnell. Out of
all the high schools in the country, (and she could have had any of them) shed picked
Georgias Preparatory Academy of the Magical Arts. Emily Bourke was by her side as they lugged their bags up the stairs. Both girls families had packed into the minivan and made the nine hour drive south from their homes in northern Virginia. They had said goodbye to the girls at the steps of the tall white plantation house before getting back in the car for another
long roadtrip. Emilys little sister had been with them the whole time, driving the teenagers
crazy with her kids stuff as she followed at their heels. Now it was time for three and a half
months parent, and almost totally supervisor free, except for the teachers of course. "You
ladies need a hand there?" the slow southern drawl brought their attention to the perfect
Adonis standing on the steps before them. The great pillars, the sloping green lawns, the tree
lined drive all paled in comparison to this young man standing before them, his head cocked
to the side, a smile warming his handsome face, gray eyes twinkling from under messy dark
blonde hair. "Ohhh," Emily breathed out. Katie just gawked. "Uh, we sure could use some
help," suddenly Emilys bag was too heavy and it slipped from her grip as she let out an
surprised, "Oh! How clumsy of me!" He grinned and picked up her bag. "Now miss we cant have you hurting yourself on your first day here at Georgia! Let me take that. And your bag too miss?" He reached out for Katies bag and she held it out, blushing and staring down at her toes. [I wonder what grade hes in.] [Tenth] Astaroth muttered. [Chin up girl, look him in the eye and smile.] [I cant hes so cute.] The girls followed the sophomore into the hall where one could easily picture the antebellum splendor of the plantation, the belle of the ball descending the staircase if full regalia, outfits that had taken hours of somebody elses hard labor to fashion from sheets of cloth. "We get to live here?" He glanced back over his shoulder. "Sure do ladies, sure do. Ill take you to freshmen check in, its in the east wing." The mansion was even bigger inside than it looked from the outside. Katie couldnt help but notice the enlargement charms and other spells woven into the very fabric of the
building, but she saw that no one else noticed and so this was one more thing she couldnt
share with others. [Im a freak] she thought dejectedly. [Katie OConnell I know you did not
just think such things about yourself!] Astaroth would never put up with her self criticism,
he seemed to think she was some kind of god, never could do any wrong, was perfect in
every way, but then she was partially his creation, however unintentional, and it was only
right for him to be protective of her. "Um... whats you name?" she asked quietly. "Kyo," the
sophomore dropped the bags down at the end of a long line of other nervous freshmen from all across the country. "Im an office aide this year, thats how I got roped into helping out, but it was worth it to meet you two." He smiled again and was gone in the throbbing crowd of students, both girls were left silently daydreaming of gray eyes and dark blonde hair.
