You Never Forget That First Love [Jasper Hale Wasn't Always A Vampire] 25
Boo ya, two in a week.
Sneaking out could go a variety of ways. Being the nervous wreak I was at the very idea of what I was about to do, I didn’t want to even pass anyone else’s bedroom out of fear I would trip or they would hear my guilt in the soft footfalls of my stocking wearing feet. However one look over the balcony and I changed my tune very quick.
I didn’t wear my shoes and though I had only undressed for bed less than half an hour, I had redressed soon as I heard Aunt Mora go into her bedroom.
Quick as I could I made my way to the stairs, barely breathing and pausing whenever I heard the slightest of sounds. Once I was outside, I ran through the shadows and down the street, realizing I hadn’t put on my shoes until I was halfway to the poor side of town.
I kept my head down as I went along and when someone came onto the street, if I had time I would dive into a bush or behind a building to avoid them. It wasn’t the proper thing to do, but hey, neither was sneaking out to see a boy.
When I reached the poor side of town I saw lights over the roofs and could hear music and laughter, as if a party was going on. Knowing the time and day I was curious to why anyone would be having a celebration now.
Coming into the street I saw it was completely alive. People of all ages were still awake and enjoying themselves, eating and laughing and talking and dancing. There was a band in the middle of the road playing music I knew very well in Spain. Real music, with a fast pace that you could really move yourself to unlike the boring classical that usually played at higher class parties.
“Well, who do we have here?”
Someone spun me around into their body, I was hoping it was Jasper, speaking in a voice that was most unlike his own, but it was someone I did not know. He was a short Mexican man with wandering eyes and a thick torso full of muscles.
“Never seen you around, chicka.” He said. “You new to this town? Cause I know everyone worth knowing and you, my Bella, are worth knowing.”
“No,” I said untangling from his limbs. “No, senor. I am not new to this town. I just don’t come down here much.”
“Well why don’t I show you around and maybe we can get better acquainted.” He eyed me up as he started forwards, his friends were snickering.
“No I don’t think so-” I tried to walk away but he took my hand.
“Come on, darling, where is the rush?”
“Senor, I said no!” I said louder, looking him in the eye to prove I wouldn’t go down easy even if he used every last muscle he had on me. There was a confused look in his eye, like he wasn’t use to this reaction and his grip loosened.
“Lola?”
I was relieved to hear a familiar voice right then and turned to see Erin rushing over, looking much less reserved then she usually was. Her work dress was replaced with a more fun, party type one that showed off a fair bit of cleavage, her hair up in a flirty way.
She stopped not a foot away from me, the contents of her mug sloshed over and she stared at me as if she couldn’t really believe I was there. I could smell the beer on her breath as she asked, “Is it really you?”
“You know this girl?” The short, but muscular man asked.
Erin looked at the guy, then me, and then laughed. “Good lord, Ramon! You couldn’t let her step three feet into the street before chatting her up could you?”
Ramon grinned, “Well, Erin, you know me…” He threw a grin my way, “I can never let a good thing pass without first taking a chance on it.”
She laughed and looped an arm through mine, “You can ignore Ramon and his dumb friends, Lola. They’re just a bunch of sillys… Come on, this way.” She lead me away and I looked back at the friends, now poking fun at Ramon who rough housed them back.
“So, this is where you live?” I asked Erin as we walked, avoiding a couple that were so captured by one another they weren’t about to move anytime soon.
“Yeah, it isn’t always this way but one of the families just had a new edition added on and we’re celebrating- Hey, why are you here?” She stopped and looked at me.
“I wished to speak to Jasper.”
“Of course you did.” Erin grinned wide and laughed. “You know, you have every girl on our street wishing she were you. Jasper’s always… always been a popular man around us ladies. Even I once had hopes he would notice me but then… whoosh,” She waved a hand, getting involved in her story, “Here comes you with your long shiny hair and super cute accent and it is like Jasper’s never even seen a woman before.” She spun back to me with her finger pointed saying, “You, my dear friend-” Then realized her pointed finger was off target and I brought her hand to my face, “Oh thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“You, my dear friend Lola. You have that boy wrapped around your finger.”
I couldn’t help but smile. “Oh I don’t know…”
“No, it’s true!” She slurred, “Joi even said so- Her brother is totally, head over heels…” She looked down at her feet, “My goodness, wouldn’t that be an awkward position to live in?”
“Erin, you were saying?”
She looked up, “About what?”
“About Jasper.”
“Oh! Well, I’d tell you but that would be gossiping and I’m just not that type of girl.”
“Fine, I shall go ask him myself.” I sighed then looked around, “Where is he?”
“Last time I saw him he was…” She pointed left, then right, then put her finger to her lip. “Er…”
“I’ll just walk around.”
“And I will accompany you.” She followed me as we started walking around looking for Jasper.
When we found him, I can’t say I was overly happy because he wasn’t alone. And the company who had his attention, didn’t appear willing to let go of it anytime soon.
