The hat (or cap) is one of those accessories that lots of men overlook totally as being too daring or garish or simply as unneeded - yet the addition of a fine cap can really top off a wardrobe and pull the rest of the look together. An appropriate fitting hat can boost both laid back and chic looks a great deal.
Casual Hats - Kangol, Cuffley, Ascot Caps and Bucket Hats
While popular brands of the ascot or flat caps are specially fine, such as Kangol or Bailey's, other quality manufacturers which do not bear these designer labels are just as acceptable if they are properly fitted and made out of high quality materials for instance wool, felt or suede.
Usually recognized colloquially as a Kangol cap, the ascot cap is ideal when combined with more informal clothes. The low profile of the cap intimates a less ostentatious aesthetic style which works perfectly with a more understated, informal image; because of this the ascot cap is one of the most favored styles amongst discriminating men, both young and old. The ascot is popular particularly amongst artists, writers, and musicians.
For defense against the dangerous effects of the sun bucket hats are the perfect choice. Unfortunately, because they are not very becoming these kinds of hats usually are not suitable for anything else.
Traditional and Regional Hats - Top Hat, Cowboy Hat, and the Fedora
For elegant events when a tuxedo is needed a number of men will opt to put on a top hat. For balls, galas, weddings or proms this hat is an clear choice for a few but outside of these occasions these types of hats may be frowned upon. Despite their loss of popularity you will still find a few gents who prefer to use them on a day to day basis.
Much like the top bailey hats, the cowboy hat has long been associated with American culture. It plays a tremendous role in history and even at this time is a must have for many men especially in places like Texas and Alberta, Canada. In other areas men prefer to stay away from them as they don't see them as a style that they will want to show off outside of a poker room or country music bar.
Unlike the cowboy hat and top hat, the fedora has earned its place in the hearts of numerous fashion forward men. It's been around and esteemed for many generations (except for a brief period in the 70's) and still continue to be fashionable these days with men young and old putting them on to top off their informal or formal outfits.
In earlier times the fedora could only be bought in monochrome colors however nowadays they are now available in plaids and pinstripes. Grey or bright white stripes over a black base is the most typical selection.
Regardless of whether one decides to put on bailey hats to cover a bald or balding head or simply to incorporate an edge to a unique and fashion forward ensemble - the revival in popularity of caps and hats is a wonderful thing and a fantastic way to broaden a dull wardrobe with a new accessory which will undoubtedly draw many remarks and, if combined correctly, compliments on a bold new look.
