His Heartbreak, Her Daughter [Edward Cullen] forty-four.
slowly but surely, miss melf updates
By the time I had gotten the new confidence of driving out of my system, the sun was set and my stomach was grumbling. Rosalie was enjoying herself in passenger seat, dancing to Katy Perry as I laughed and we both sang disturbingly out of key. We debated going until the car broke down or we stopped having fun, whichever came first. It was girl’s time and that was nearly as much fun as Edward time.
“Sure you don’t want to continue down to Portugal? It’s really quite lovely at this time.” Rosalie offered.
“Without everyone else?” I asked.
“We can send them a postcard.” She shrugged and laughed.
“Oh come on, you don’t want to go there without… say, your husband?”
“That big lug? I’ve already experienced everything and everywhere with him.”
“Rosalie,” I said a little surprised, her tone was so dismissive. “Are you-”
“Oh my goodness Aly, don’t look so afraid!” She put a hand on my arm and was smiling. “Emmett is my big lug. He keeps me sane.”
I let out a sigh in a whoosh of relief. I’d hate to see a couple as perfectly matched as Rosalie and Emmett break up after being together for so long.
We returned to Forks on the back roads, I was still nervous about being around humans. Even driving I had the windows rolled up tight and the doors locked. Not that they could stop me, it was more like a mind trick thing. You’re locked inside, ha ha.
In front of us Emmett and Jasper jumped out at the speed of light it seemed. But I could see them clear as day as they ran out from the woods off the road and before us. Still, not wanting to hit them, or dent the car with their bodies more likely, I hit the brakes hard.
Crunch.
Rosalie and I looked down and saw my foot sticking out of the bottom of the car, the brake broken off.
For a split second all I could think of was how much deep crap I was in for breaking the car. Then Rosalie was laughing and I remembered who I was dealing with. Make a hole in the bottom of the car? The Cullen’s would but a whole new car. Burn down the house? They had a dozen others all over the place. Nothing would ever be so bad I think I’d be grounded for.
“What you break now Aly?” Jasper asked as Emmett laughed.
I got out, “None of your business.”
“Come on, lets’ get out of here.” Emmett said.
“We can’t, Aly’s broken off the break.” Rosalie said getting out and wearing an amused smile.
“There’s still the emergency break.” Jasper said.
“Or she could always use that super strength in her foot as a manmade brake.” Emmett elbowed me.
“Yeah, that would probably work. Think Edward will be mad?” I asked.
“Bat those pretty eyelashes and he won’t ever notice.” Emmett poked my nose and I snapped at his fingers.
“So did you two just come out here to cause more trouble or what?” Rosalie asked.
“Little bit of both.” Emmett swooped his arms around her waist and put his mouth on her neck in a kiss, wait, no, he was gnawing on it.
Jasper looked at me, “Let’s get out of here.”
“I am right behind you. I am starved.” I told him.
“What a coincidence, Em and I were just thinking of going out for a hunt.”
“Thanks but that’s not the kind of meal I was thinking of. I was thinking more one of those lasagnes in the freezer. And maybe a steak…” My mouth salivated, “Do we have any steak?”
“We’re stocked up with enough stakes for a family of twelve.” Rosalie said.
“Awesome.”
“Actually I think we’re out. How about we take Edward’s holy vehicle and go to the supermarket for some?” Jasper asked.
“It’s okay if we don’t have any. I’ll find food. I always do.” I looked at the car. “You guys go for your hunt and I’ll take the car back-”
“We can leave it here. Bet you can’t beat me home the scenic root!” Emmett challenged me, trying to push me the opposite way of the house.
My foot were rooted to the ground and I looked at Jasper and Emmett, I mean really looked at them. I replayed the ways they spoke, their expressions. They didn’t want me returning home. I circled around them.
“Okay Als, What are you doing?” Emmett asked.
I caught a whiff on Emmett’s chest, a barely there scent of a human. A scent I’d know anywhere.
“Mom,” I breathed.
Emmett and Jasper looked at each other, defeated.
“What is she doing there?” I asked.
“She just wanted to check in to see how you are.” Jasper answered. “She called the house and you weren’t there so she thought she would come over and see your room-”
“She wouldn’t come over for something like that.” I knew what she would come over for, and once they saw I knew, they dove to grab me but I hopped over them and ran, fingers barely skimming my coat.
Dad told her about my little situation with Edward, and she wasn’t taking it well.
