As Mello, Matt, and Kim settle in, Mello immediately starts thinking of what to ask Kim. It doesn't take him long at all before he interrogates, "First off, how old are you?"

Kim hesitates a bit, unsure if she should ask why, then replies, "Seventeen."

"How long have you been seventeen?" Matt asks with his eyes and fingers glued to his Nintendo DS while a cigarette hangs loose from his mouth.

"Shut up!" Mello and Kim both yell in unison, showing how similarly irritable they are.

"Okay, so you're pretty young," Mello continues as if nothing happened. "What have you accomplished so far in your life, specifically in your studies?"

Kim freezes for a moment, thinking her words carefully through as the sound of Mello continuously biting into his chocolate fills the deep silence. "Well...I've been involved with physics and psychology in grad school, but that's pretty much it."

"Okay then... What do you know about investigation?"

"Oh, just the general stuff: finding evidence and data to solve a case."

"So, basically nothing. Now, what do you know about a murderer named Kira?"

Kim's insides burn for a quick second at Mello's first sentence, then she answers, "Really nothing, to be honest. Only that his or her name is Kira and that he or she is a murderer."

"I thought so. Then I'll just give you some kind of task to do and determine if you're qualified to work with us or not based on what you've done."

"Sounds like fun," Kim says with obvious sarcasm.

Mello finally gets up and makes his way to the computer across from where the couches are. Kim then stands as well and goes to where Mello is to see what he has to offer her. Apparently, it's research to find the occupations of several men Mello thinks might be investigating to find Kira's identity.

"Wouldn't that just make them detectives then?" Kim questions as she stares at the men's pictures on the computer screen.

"Yeah, but I need to know if they really are detectives so we can eliminate competition by sabotaging them and stealing their data."

"O...kay then?"

"I'll be back to check up on you in an hour, so don't waste time."

Kim isn't comfortable with the idea at first, but once she sits down in front of the computer and begins researching, she slowly starts adjusting to it. However, she continues to question herself about why she's doing this and why she came here: the same questions she thought the minute she sat in Matt's car. When she remembers the answer, she becomes angry with herself, feeling she's being too desperate. Then again, what kind of angel wouldn't be in her case? That doesn't matter, though, because it's a sin. It's a sin to let even one human know about her kind, and now she's getting herself into deeper situations with two of them.

'I'm kind of surprised he didn't ask about my eye color,' Kim thought as she worked. 'Maybe he's trying to find a reason behind it himself. Mello does seem like a calculating guy, despite how he looks. But, I'm pretty sure Matt will do the honors of bringing it up...'

As similar thoughts cross her mind, the hours fly by until it's late evening. The information that Kim finds is mostly vague, but enough to give Mello an idea of what each of the men might be doing. He knows it isn't always easy to find information, so he lets her stay for the night and gives her a few more tasks just to get used to her being around and know her style of working. Though, she isn't officially part of the investigation yet.

While the three relax, they have to endure hearing massive drumming of rain and explosions of thunder with bright thrusts of lightning. Other than that, it's pure silence.
The one to break it is, of course, Matt. "Hey, I know you can't tell me anything about what you are, but could you at least tell me how you died?"

Matt and Kim are alone in his room while Mello is in one of the computer rooms, so it's safe to bring up anything about Kim into discussion. Kim sighs, then answers, "Fair enough, but you have to listen without any distractions, so put the cigarette and video game away."

"Ohh, come on," Matt pouts pathetically.

Letting out an unbearable groan, Kim says, "Fine, just the game, you crybaby..."

"I can live with that," speaks Matt with a blissful smile as he closes his DS and turns his body and attention to Kim. He's comfortably seated on his bed while Kim is sitting in a leather rolling chair with her boots off. "My ears are all yours."

"'Kay, I'm not gonna repeat anything, so leave questions at the end."

The thunder roars as if urging Kim to begin her story already while the rain comes down like a drum roll, waiting for the first words to be spoken. It's going to be a long, stormy night...

Yes, I used a quote from the Twilight movie. =w=

Don't worry, I ain't no psycho fangirl, but I just had to do it. x3

Anyway, I'm not too satisfied with this chapter, but I had to get it in somehow. :\

The entire story (along with pretty much all my other stories) is already planned out in my head like an anime/movie, and I just need to convert everything into words.

It gets difficult, though, 'cause a scene could seem so perfect and amazing in your head, but come out as vomit on the screen.

That's why I'm really hoping that there will be an invention one day that takes whatever's in your head and makes it into words or a picture.

No, I'm serious.
