Walked A Tight Rope To Hold Onto You | Jack Barakat Alex Gaskarth | Chapter Four

Needless to say, my brother was more than eager to get his hands all over Cassadee when he picked the two of us up to go to the party. Alex, Jack, and Zack were meeting us there, apparently they had some things to do. When we showed up to the release, Alex and Jack were huddled in a corner, and Zack had found a girl to spend his night with. I smiled at him and walked over to the boys.

"You...you look, uhm, stunning." Alex choked on his drink. I smiled at him and hugged the two of them. Jack smiled at me and kissed my cheek.

"No drinks?" The two shook their heads. I assumed something had happened in between the eight months because, they would have already had a few drinks in them.

"You're absolutely adorable you know that" Brian, from the summer set came over to me and hugged me from behind. I hadn't seen him in months. I flipped around and latched onto him.

"BRIAN!" I practically shouted. He made me so happy. Granted, he was already dating someone amazing. We'd previously dated.

"Hey babygirl. I hear you and Alex are in speaks of getting back together" I looked at Alex, who looked just as confused as me.

"Where'd you hear that?" I asked "I mean, we are. But no one really knows about it"

"It's been around" He shrugged "Hey, I gotta go play a set, but i'll text you tonight if I don't get a chance to see you. We'll go have dinner or something" He hugged me and kissed my cheek. "Bye Nina, love you!"

"Love you too!" I smiled and directed attention back to Alex. "Did you say anything to anyone?" I questioned the two of them.

"No, why would I? I am not about to share the contents of my private personal life with people that dated you way back when" He seemed snappy, so I turned and walked away. I wasn't in the mood to deal with him being an asshole.

I watched The Summer Set play their new songs and then left, coming here was a bad idea. I hailed a taxi a couple blocks down the road and went home. As I opened the door, my phone went off. It was Cass, I ignored it. I wasn't really in the mood to talk to anyone right now. I thought tonight was going to be fun, the night Alex and I got back together. Ya know? I guess I thought wrong. I unzipped my dress and slipped into some sweatpants and Rian's hoodie. Cass called a few more times as I watched a bunch of disney movies.

I must have fallen asleep because I woke up to my door being flung open and Cass hoping on top of me. "WHY DID YOU LEAVE?!" She screamed. I looked at her.

"He was being a dick, I just, I couldn't handle it." I shrugged.

"I thought you died or something! You could have answered to at least tell me you were okay" She snuggled under the blanket with me. "He's just confused as to what to be like with you. You've been friends for such a long time, ya know?"

"But, that should make it all the more easy." I layed my head back and closed my eyes.

Just once, could things work out between me and the kid i'm in love with. I lost Jack because despite our efforts fate says we werent' meant to be. I can't handle losing Alex to the same thing. Just once.
