I was being shaken awake by my mom around 8 this morning. "Mom, what are you doing? Let me sleep."

"Sorry honey but you have to get up. Dad and I have something important we have to talk to you about."

"Can't it wait until later? I'm tired. I've been up 'til 2 am last night with Natasha."

"Well maybe you shouldn't have stayed up so late. But you still have to come downstairs now. Get dressed. You have 5 minutes or I will come after you myself."

"Fine, fine. I'm moving. Please go away soI can change."

I watched Mom walk out of my room and close my door. I swung my legs out of bed and I walked very slowly to my dresser. I pulled out my gray sweatpants and a plain blue t-shirt and tossed that on quickly. I pulled a brush through my hair before I went downstairs.

"Lauren in here!" I heard Mom call from the living room.

I trudged into the living room and Mom and Dad and another woman sitting in there. "Who's this?" I asked.

"Sit down Lauren," Dad said.

"I prefer to stand. What's going on?"

"Sit," Dad commanded.

I rolled my eyes and sat down on the recliner. "Any day now," I said.

"Don't be rude Lauren," Mom reprimanded me.

"Please just tell me what is going on here," I said back to her.

"Well honey 15 years ago a little girl was born and her mom couldn't take care of her. So she was brought into an orphanage and a few weeks later she was adopted. I hate to tell you this now but that was you," Dad told me.

"What?! You're kidding me. I was adopted and you're just bringing this up now? Did you ever think of telling me this before?"

"We weren't going to tell you but this social worker came over and your birth mother wants you back now. We don't want to give you up so your birth mother said that we could still see you whenever we feel like it," Mom said.

"There is no way I'm leaving Boston! Natasha and Chris are here. I'm not leaving."

"You really don't have a choice Lauren. Your birth mother has legal rights over you so you must go back to her," the supposed social worker said.

"I'm not leaving! I'm staying here and you can't make me go. I'll run away if I have to."

I knew that I really wouldn't but I became desperate. Natasha is my bestie and Chris is the love of my life. I couldn't leave them. They were my world.

"I'm sorry Lauren but today you have to pack and be ready to leave tomorrow," the stupid social worker said. God I hated that woman. She just ruined my life and I can't do anything about it.

"Fine! But just to let you know, I'm pregnant. Chris is the father so I'm going to need him."

That was a total lie but I had to convince them that I belonged here in Boston. I couldn't leave my hometown. I just couldn't.

Mom gasped and Dad looked like he just saw a ghost. Mom grabbed my arm and dragged me to the bathroom. "You take this pregnancy test now so I know for sure," she said as she took out a home pregnancy test from the medicine cabinet.

"Mom? I'm not pregnant. I just said that so I could stay."

"Oh thank God. Why would you say something like that if it wasn't true? I nearly had a heart attack."

We came out of the bathroom and went back to Dad. "She's not pregnant," Mom said to Dad.

"Oh thank the lord," Dad said. "Now you start packing right now young lady. You can say goodbye to your friends later."

I stomped up to my room in frustration. I slammed my door with all of my might. I was really mad. But I did what Dad said and packed all of my belongings. Then I called Natasha to tell her the bad news.

"What?! You're leaving? What am I going to do without you? I need you!"

I heard Chris in the background asking Natasha what was going on. Chris is Natasha's twin brother. After she told him, I heard another phone being picked up.

"How can you be leaving after everything we've been through?" Chris said to me.

"I don't have a choice. They won't let me stay. I don't want to leave you either," I said with tears going down my face.

"Will they let you visit at least?" Natasha asked me.

"I don't know but I'll find out. I just packed and I leave tomorrow. I'll call you guys I promise. I love you both."

"We love you too," Natasha said for the both of them.

After we hung up, I cried myself to sleep. Right before my eyes closed all I could think about was Chris.
