Life After Looking for Love: A Robert Patitnson Story (44)
Here is the first part of the cast asking Aubrey personal questions. Hope you like it.
“So, who’s first,” Aubrey asked as we all sat around in a circle on the floor just looking at each other.
“I’ll go first since mine isn’t bad,” I said. “It says, ‘when are gonna watch the Twilight movies?’” Once I read that everyone, including me, started to laugh. We then settled back down and then stared towards Aubrey so we could hear her answer because I want to know when she’s going to watch these movies.
“Honestly, I don’t know,” she said.
“What do you mean you don’t know,” Kellan asked her.
“It just really hasn’t been on the top of my things to do list. Plus I did promise Ryan and Josh that I would watch it with them and it’s kind of hard to schedule a time to watch them when they’re both professional hockey players who are never really home.”
“Wait I thought you guys watched movies the night after they win a home game? Why don’t you guys just watch it them,” I said remembering the one time we all watched A Goofy Movie.
“We still do, but I doubt that when it’s Ryan or Josh’s choice to pick a movie they’re going to pick a Twilight movie and I’ve pretty much choose kids’ movies to watch and don’t plan on changing. Plus we kind of want to watch them back-to-back-to-back. So if I’m going to be honest with y’all we’ll probably watch them sometime over the summer when the season is over, unless Ryan and Josh are both out with injuries at the same time and have to stay home.” She literally then knocked on my wooden drawer which caused us all to laugh. I guess I should mention Aubrey is kind of superstitious and believes all that stuff, except for stepping on a crack in the sidewalk breaking you’re mother’s back and picking up a penny giving you good luck.
“I’ll go next,” Jackson said. “’You seem like someone who really didn’t get in trouble growing up. What is one bad thing that you got in trouble for doing?’” Looking at Aubrey it seemed as though she was blushing.
“She’s blushing it has to be bad,” Ashley said.
“No it’s not bad,” Aubrey insisted, “well depending on how you look at it, it could be bad. It’s just so embarrassing.”
“Wasn’t that the point of these questions,” Nikki said.
“I guess,” Aubrey then looked at me. “Robert you may want to cover your ears, but if you listen don’t judge me or look at me differently.” I nodded and she took a deep breath. “Well Caleb and I had just started going out, so I was a high school freshman. One day our families decided to see a Mavericks game. It was fine seeing how I wasn’t expecting anything. So I tell my dad that I’m going to the concession stand to get something to eat and Caleb says he’s hungry too. Our parents didn’t see anything wrong with that so they let us go. We were walking around the concourse hand-in-hand and I wasn’t really expecting anything to happen. Then Caleb walks me toward this door and I’m looking at him like he’s crazy. He then opens the door and I see that it’s a supply closet. He then drags me in, turns on the light, closes the door, and starts making out with me. Now I was kind of shocked since this was my first kiss but I eventually calmed down and got really into it.”
“No offense, that doesn’t seem bad. Since he made sure no one was paying attention when you two entered the closet,” Kristen said.
“I’m getting to the bad part. So we pull apart and just look at each other, because this was my first kiss and our first kiss as a couple. We were about to walk out when I pull him closer to me and started making out with him again.”
“Wow, I would have never expected you to do something like that,” I said.
“I know, you seem like such a good girl,” Ashley said.
“I get that a lot. Anyways so we were making-out for a second time and so into it that we didn’t notice that someone had opened the door. We pulled apart to see that it was someone who worked for the arena.”
“That’s hilarious you got caught,” Kellan said while laughing.
“Yeah and that’s not the worse part. The person who caught us making out went to the same church we did so he knew us or more importantly our parents. He then dragged us out of the closet and started lecturing us. He took us back to our parents and told them what happened.”
“What happened next,” I asked.
“Well since it was halftime our parents lectured us and then we were both grounded for 2 weeks, and if we wanted to see each other it had to be somewhere where our parents could see us. Talk about the worse two weeks of my life, being monitored by my parents whenever I was with my boyfriend.” That’s when everyone started to laugh and I just pulled Aubrey closer to me and started hugging her.
“It’s alright Aubrey, I still love you,” I whispered to her, “just think, now we can make out in supply closets as much as we want and if we get caught you won’t have to worry about your parents getting onto you.”
“Thanks Robert,” she said and we then pulled apart. “So what’s the next question?”
“I’ll go,” Kristen said. “’If your boyfriend cheated on you, would you cheat on your boyfriend as some sort of revenge?’” Of course Kristen had to get this question. I just hope she kept her mouth shut and didn’t tell Aubrey that I did in fact cheat on her.
“No, I think cheating as a form of revenge and in general is stupid.” Everyone seemed to agree and I acted like I did too, despite knowing what I did wrong.
“My turn,” Ashley said. “’Derek and Caleb said you’ve done this, but did you really propose to Mike Modano?’ This isn’t on the paper, but who is Mike Modano?”
“Oh he was my favorite hockey player on the Dallas Stars. Anyways I did propose to him.”
“There’s got to be a story behind this,” Jackson said.
“I was a junior in high school and this guy, Craig; I had grown up with worked for the Dallas Stars in their media relations department. One day I was hanging out with him on a game day to see what it was like working for a professional team. Well it was after a huge win against their rival the Coyotes and Craig had to get all the media down to the locker room. He couldn’t leave me alone so I tagged along with him. While he was taking of care of all the media who wanted to talk to Loui Eriksson, I walked up to Mike and he smiled at me which I should mention he has an AMAZING smile. Anyways I tell him good game and we talk about it for a while. Then, knowing that he had a girlfriend at the time, I get down on one knee and say ‘I know you have a girlfriend but that’s okay because I have a boyfriend too but I was wondering if I get my parents’ permission, since I’m only 14 would you marry me?’ I then pull of this bracelet and tell him I don’t have the money but his could be his engagement jewelry. Now by this point there were some media people as well as Craig looking at us, but they just thought we were talking. His teammates beside him were egging him on to give me an answer. He then said, ‘I’ll tell you what, I’ll take your bracelet and in a few more years you can ask me the same question alright’. I nod and he then held out his hand and allowed me to put the bracelet on him. He then asks one of his teammates to take a picture of him and his future wife, meaning me.” You could tell Aubrey was really happy about this.
“So what happened afterwards,” I asked.
“Well, I leave him to some interviews and head over to Craig who just looks at me and shakes his head and that was the end of that…so I thought.”
“What happened,” Kellan said.
“Well about a week later the Stars were holding this meet and greet gala for their season ticket holders so me, my mom, and my dad go. We get there and after the dinner we’re allowed to walk up and talk to the players. My dad sees Mike and starts telling me that I should walk up to him. Well by this time I’ve realized the stupid thing I did and kind of wish I could have taken it back. My parents don’t know about me proposing to him so they still drag me towards him. So we walk up to Mike who I should mention is with his girlfriend, singer Willa Ford, and my dad starts talking to him. He says ‘excuse me Mike, but my daughter here is such a huge fan of yours I was wondering if she could take a picture with you’. Mike looks at me and starts to laugh. He then tells Willa that I’m the girl who proposed to him last week and then pulls up his sleeve to show the bracelet I gave him. She starts to laugh and then says ‘so you’re the girl who is going to leave her boyfriend and take Mike from me’. I was scared because I thought she would be mad so I start freaking out and apologizing to her. She, Mike and my parents start to laugh and she reassures me that it’s okay and that she would be okay if Mike left her for someone as cute as me. Then my parents take a picture of me with Mike and then his girlfriend asks if my parents could take a picture of her and me and then of us with Mike in the middle and they agree. After that my parents talk to them we say our goodbyes and my parents just get onto me about the whole thing, not in a lecturing way like I thought but in a jokingly way. In fact I still have those 3 pictures up in my room back in Dallas.” We all just look at her.
“Yeah I know, it’s a lot to take in. Besides two years later Mike proposed to Willa and they are happily married. So if I walk up to him I doubt he will remember me, because I doubt he has those pictures still. Besides I’m going to stay away from hockey players for a while until Jordan Staal, a.k.a. my long-time crush and future husband, decides to come to his senses and marries me.” We all start laughing at that since I told everyone that Aubrey’s crush on Jordan is kind of like a Twilight fan’s crush on one of us.
“Okay, I guess I’ll go next,” Nikki said. “’Since people think you and Collin are twins, have you two ever acted like you were.’” Thinking back to the time I was at Aubrey’s house and saw Derek I had to admit they kind of did look alike. If it wasn’t for the fact that Collin had brown eyes and Aubrey piercing grey eyes and the fact that I knew he is 6 years older than her, I would definitely think they were twins.”
“We have. It’s like some people refuse to believe us when we say we’re not twins. Plus how are they not going to believe us, I mean I think we would know is we were twins. Anyways there were a couple of times where we told people we were twins, but we would wait a while and then tell them the truth. Like this one time we were at a waiting a table at this restaurant and this old lady was like ‘oh it’s so nice to see twins hanging out together, especially at your age when you want to separate yourself from your twin. If you don’t mind me asking who is older.’ Then Collin said he was and she asked by how much and I said 6 years and she said okay and then left. Collin and I were looking at her shocked because she actually believed that. She then comes back with a friend and was like ‘look at these two twins and their only 6 years apart.’ Her friend was kind of confused and was like you mean 6 minutes by the first old lady was insisting that we were twins who were 6 years apart.”
“Did you let her believe that,” Ashley asked.
“No, we then set her straight telling her that we weren’t twins and that Collin was 6 years older than me.”
“Was she mad,” Nikki asked.
“No she said it was the best prank she’s ever been a part of.”
“Wow, who would have thought that you would pull a prank especially on an old lady,” Jackson said and Aubrey just shrugged her shoulders.
“Well I’m hungry, why don’t we take a break from these questions and get something from craft services real fast and then we can come back here and continue,” I suggested and everyone agreed. So we got left my closet and headed to craft services just laughing and talking about all the things we had learned about Aubrey.
