Its time to move your home office! Dont worry, it can be done! If you follow these 10 helpful moving tips for "moving a home office," your packing efforts will be easier, and your unpacking daywill be seamless.
Go through all of your books and magazines and donate or sell any books that you have not read or used in the last year. Why pay a moving company more money to transport books and magazines that you will never useRecycle all phone books, as you will be supplied new ones once you move. This tip alone has the potential to eliminate many boxes of packing, and save you hours and hours of unpacking books you no longer want.
Moving time is a wonderful opportunity to go through your files and make sure that you are moving files that youcurrently use. Most people are amazed to find out that a large portion of their files are no longer of interest and/or needed. Why waste time moving files you dont need, and then unpacking them.
Tip #3 - Invest in a Shredder
Once you go through your files, you will likely have important documents, bank statements and other financial information that should not be placed directly in the trash. For your security and protection, it is worth the extra time to shred any documents before you throw them away. Invest in a home shredder and you are investing in your privacy and security.
As a Mom Entrepreneur moving a home office, you are busy and your time is worth a lot.Anywhere that you can save yourself some time without spending more money, take advantage of it. Awonderful time saving service that I found is a company called MovingBox Delivery. They sell somekeyword and somekeywordin a moving kit, by size of home with free shipping. Great quality boxes and prices at much less than what I have seen in other places.
If you label your cords before you unplug them, you will have thepotential of saving hours and hours of unpacking time trying to figure out which cord goes to which electronic component. After all, when you are unplugging your cords it looks so natural for which cords go together, but trust me, at the other end of the moving day when you have a big bag of cords and electronics that are not plugged in, the task can be daunting Umzug Angebot. Radio Shack or other retail stores sell basic cord labels where you can write what electronic it goes to.
You can purchase tie tags that are meant to fold cords up. We suggest doing this and then putting each cord in a zip lock plastic bag. This helps ensure that your cords do not get tangled together AND since they are all labeled it makes it easy to unpack.
Zuegelfirma Tip #7 - Dedicate One of your Moving Boxes for All Your Important Papers
When moving a home office, there are some very important papers that if lost, your business would suffer. Make sure that you have your most important papers such as incorporation papers, marriage license, birth certificates, health information, vaccine information for your kids, school records, passwords, financial information, mortgage papers, etc in a separate box that you move yourself. Our time saving tip: If you need to somekeyword try ordering them on-line with free shipping to save time.
Tip #8 - When You Place Files in Your Moving Boxes, Label the Boxes with a Number
When emptying the files from your file drawers, you will find that not all of your files from a specific drawer will fit intoan individual movingbox. Therefore, use a system that you stick by for all your boxes. A system that has worked well for me is to label each box that has files in it with a number that corresponds to which drawer it should be placed in. Example: Top drawer 1, Top drawer 2, top drawer 3. With this system, you will thenknow which order to unpackyour files back from your box into the top drawer.
Tip #9 - Transport Your Own Computer and Electronics If You Are Able To
Electronics like computers are very sensitive to move. If you have the packing supplies that the products came in, this is the best way to move these items. If you do not (really, who saves these) then move these items yourself if you have the ability to do so.Your electronicswill be better protected in your car, than they will be in a moving truck if you dont have the initial packing materials it came with.
Tip #10 - Take a Day Off of Work To Pack and To Unpack
Moving a house and a home office is a big task. The sooner you get organized, the sooner you will be able to be productive in getting back to work. It is better to take some time off of work to get yourself unpacked, than trying to work without electronics plugged in and/or files organized. Since many Mom Entrepreneurs do not have a big office with several employees, it is likely if you shut down for a day- your business will be shut down too. I suggest closing up shop anyway. Let your customers know you will be out of the office on that particular day but will get back to them. Your home based business will only be as productive as you want it to be if you take the time to unpack organize in an effective way.
